I guess Carter would be a moot point now
When it says we have 11 players when all is said and done with the Chandler deal, and I assume that includes Bibby as player 12, does Jerome Jordan count in that number? I’d say sign JJ and see what he got in camp, otherwise, I don’t know who else to get Do we really need another SG? I kinda don’t think so. I’d go Poop or PF backup…fuck it – I don’t even know. More wine please

deshawn has no back down (useful against wade, ray, deron, pierce)...
and can hit a 3… unless chandler knows something we don’t.

Nah I'd rather Bully chucking them 3's and Poop if it were possible (I see lil value in him)
We have TD healthy an Iman for at the minimum perimeter D
And I like our guys – can’t say I like DeShawne
I know i dont want bibby.
But to look at the glass half full…..bibby was not a good fit in Miami.. with wade and bron dominating the ball from inbound to rebound Bibby had no chance to get into rythem. So im assuming if he can pass with any efficiency, then he could possibly be useful here.
"they try to do what he do, and been where he's been, but they get folded in two.....he's the dude"
bibby was a great fit in miami
he just had to stand there and shoot spot up threes. it’s pretty much the only thing he can do anymore. he was just so bad that by the finals he couldn’t be trusted to bring the ball over halfcourt against jj freaking barea.

call me stupid but i truly cannot conprehend why they dont wait to see what happens with Baron Davis
please someone tell me i missed something. either way TD starts on xmas day so whatever but mike bibby?

its near impossible to get b davis.
a lot has to happen. So putting eggs into that basket will leave you sol
"they try to do what he do, and been where he's been, but they get folded in two.....he's the dude"
But all he has to do is threaten retirement if he doesn't land with the Knicks and then no one will claim him
It’s a simple process that can be easily executed. Chauncey already said he’s going to use the same tactic, although he used the broad term ‘contender’ instead of ‘Heat’. If a player wants to turn being amnestied into becoming a free agent, all he has to do is say he’ll retire if he doesn’t get what he wants…
i kind of would love it if we ended up with baron and the heat added chauncey
it would really intensify the rivalry, and i’m liking our chances against that squad more and more after adding a true defensive center. with baron or without him, can’t wait for the season to start.

I don't understand either
the Heat are keeping a roster spot open and waiting to see if they can get baron or chauncey. We should do the same, are we gonna be able to make a run at Baron if he is available now?
If this means the Shawne won't be resigned,
iRepShawneWill3 and me will be side my side torching MSG to the ground.
Stainer of mountaintops.
i dont see anything wrong with this
if we cannot get paul we cannot have toney starting at the point that isnt his game. billups obviously will not get any better since hes aging and injured alot . this could be a blessing in disguise bibby is seasoned but could hit some shots if needed. i think gettin a rebounder was very important and we did that with chandler
Douglas will probably be starting.

"they try to do what he do, and been where he's been, but they get folded in two.....he's the dude"
I don't have a problem with Bibby
He’s good under pressure and he’s got as good a 3 point shot as anyone on the Knicks. Hopefully, Shump will show some big time skills and be able to help out at the point. I love TD, but he just is not a point guard though he will be the starting SG with Fields coming off the bench.
although TD is better than fields
fields should start. B/c TD would serve as a better 6th man. Fields as a 6th man wouldnt result in many points scored or as a change of pace guy
"they try to do what he do, and been where he's been, but they get folded in two.....he's the dude"
fields will thrive more...
as melo’s backup at the 3. landry’s a mover and a ball mover, melo isn’t… we saw this last year.
by bucketsncents on Dec 10, 2011 8:51 AM EST up reply actions
he could..but based on our depth
AT the guards..who will play the two?
TD most likely starts at the point with bibby (potentially) backing him up. but who plays the 2? Bully?
"they try to do what he do, and been where he's been, but they get folded in two.....he's the dude"
i think we need a veteran swingman...
who can score. not a huge anthony parker fan, but someone like him, reggie williams or even jamal crawford.

in all seriousness
why would we need, much less want, that frog-face looking’ dude on the knicks? he seemed pretty washed up last season, and it would really suck to see him take away minutes from the young guys. besides, there must be at least 4-5 other free agent guards who could be had at the minimum level who would be better in some way…Anthony Carter comes to mind obviously, and that’s just from our OWN team last year.
having said all that, if it happens, i guess there’s nothing we can do but accept it and hope he plays minimal minutes…though i would gladly eat these words if he does better than i’m imagining.

Why all the Bibby hate?
Who do you guys want at PG? We don’t need another star. Most importantly, I want a guy that can settle the offense down when things get a little crazy. Secondly, our PG has to be a willing passer on the pick and roll, and I’d prefer the PG to be able to hit a shot or two. TD can shoot the lights out when he’s on, but the offense tends to stagnate and people get out of position (plus, TD is as shoot-first as they come). Anthony Carter cannot possibly start for any team, he’s not a good shooter, and he wasn’t a very good floor general last year either, but I do give him credit for his fantastic D on Dwayne Wade. I’d love Baron Davis, and I think Andre Miller could possibly be had. We should also check out the availabiity of Darius Morris, Goran Dragic, Eric Maynor, Pooh Jeter, Ish Smith and Mustafa Shakur. Regardless, Bibby is an OK back up plan in case we don’t get anybody else.

whoa, if andre miller is possible, get after it, grunwald!
but to answer your question, it’s not that those of us who dislike bibby want another star, it’s just that as you clearly outlined, there are a lot of very capable non-stars who could contribute, and in my mind, far more so than mike bibby. eric maynor, anthony carter, pooh jeter, ish smith…i’d rather take a flyer on any of those guys than bibby at this point. and i DEFINITELY don’t want bibby to be our starter, so i’m only looking at potential backup PG’s to TD, and how they might complement what he does well / poorly.

Right, there are better alternatives.
But none of them have signed with the Knicks as of yet. I’m guessing that the Knicks are still interested in Baron Davis, and that Bibby is just the backup plan. Also, I think that starting TD would be a mistake. He’s a great 6th man but the other players kind of stand around when he’s in. Not only is TD not a distributor, I’d venture to say that he slows down the offense. We looked horribly disjointed when Billups went down last year against the Celtics.
As far as Andre Miller goes, obviously I’m just speculating but I don’t see a reason for the Nuggets to hold onto him. Obviously he’s not the future there, Ty Lawson needs to continue his development and keeping him on the bench for another year can really hinder that. If they acquired Miller intending to use him as a backup, his value to the team is negligible. They are building for the future, and Miller won’t be a part of that. Plus, wasn’t he unhappy with his role on the Blazers when he was forced to come off the bench?

Not that I neccessarily want Bibby to start
But he can do all the stuff I mentioned. He’s a solid veteran on the court and an OK floor general. At any rate, the offense will run smoother with him at the helm than TD. He shot 44% from 3 last season, and has always been a pretty decent shooter from deep. He’s not a great passer, but still better than TD (27.3 AST % to Douglas’ 18.5). He’s horrible on defense but that’ll be balanced out by having Shumpert/Douglas at the SG spot and a Tyson Chandler behind him.
Chances are this signing won’t work out, but its really not as bad as you guys make it seem

have to say i agree
if he can hit the 3 and run a pick and roll then that’s what we need. much as i love toney he has never shown a consistent ability to run the pnr, save for a couple of times with turiaf last season. there’s plenty of time for him to improve, but a d’antoni team with stat and chandler needs a guard who can run the pnr – otherwise so much effectiveness is lost (to me that was also a massive problem with billups, who seemed unwilling or incapable of running the pnr with stat)
bibby’s d is appalling, but for 20-25 mins, possibly in a back up role, we can cope with it when the other guards in the rotation are toney and shumpert. we also need to consider that whilst shumpert is very exciting he hasn’t actually played an nba game yet and may need some time to develop. an experienced pg in the rotation is something we do need. remember the playoffs? bar melo, it was the experienced players like carter and jeffries who contributed. the young guys were overwhelmed.
so yes, i’d take bibby if there are no other alternatives. obviously though the prospect of baron davis is much more appealing, but that arsehole in cleveland has to amnesty him, which seems a lot less likely now he may end up with a big market team like the knicks. he’ll probably hold onto him to be a dick.
one caveat though – needs to be the vet min. we need the £2.5m exception for others, not least extra e. i’m pretty sure he’ll be back if we can give him more than one year, but we can’t risk losing him by only offering a one year min contract.
I think we're forgetting how erratic and ineffective he was down the stretch last season
His 2011 postseason was statistically one of the worst in NBA history. He hasn’t really run a pick-and-roll in ages because he’s played on teams with ball-dominant players (Johnson, James/Wade) and he’ll do the same here, but if he can’t knock down his threes at an elite rate, why have him on the floor when he’s so atrocious (and I mean atrocious) defensively?
I doubt he’ll get minutes ahead of Toney and Shumpert, but I was and still am hoping for a more inspired approach to filling the hole at PG than a veteran who managed to lose his job to Mario Chalmers in a critical playoff series.
TYBG
Can we put a clause in Bibby's contract that he will be waived automatically if Baron Davis becomes available???
I mean not really but that would be nice.
Here's what I don't get.
Hahn says we have use of the stretch exception after this stuff today (well, he said mini-MLE but the 2.5 mil/3 yrs one is the stretch so I imagine it was a misnomer). That means we have room under the cap; if we have room under the cap, we get to bid on amnestied players in the waiver claim process. Therefore, we can bid on Baron Davis. I imagine if he’s willing to say he’ll be pissed if any team but the Knicks claims him we can bid the 2.5 mil we have available with the stretch and that should be high enough. We would have to wait, at most, a week to see if this can happen. If Mike Bibby wants to sign somewhere else in that time, I couldn’t give two shits.
