I wanted to write this fan post to temper expectation that some of the fine posters at Posting and Toasting have about JORTS and JJ. I want to clarify I support both 110% and wish they become juggernauts; however, I understand this most likely will not happen.
Some things that I have read or heard about these guys:
JORTS is going to be the steal of the draft.
JJ has the potential to be a top 10 center.
JORTS compared himself to Rodman and Perkins.
History is against these guys. Since 2000, here is a list of NCAA Seniors drafted in the 2nd round:
2000 - Jake Voskuhl, Jabari Smith, Dan McClintock
2001 - Eric Chenowith, Loren Woods, Ken Johnson, Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje, Alvin Jones
2002 - Dan Gadzuric, Jason Jennings
2003 - Jackson Vroman
2005 - Robert Whaley
2007 - Aaron Gray, Hebert Hill
2008 - DeVon Hardin, Sasha Kaun
2009 - Goran Suton
Dan Gadzuric is probably the only center who put up some good numbers in his first 3 years then fell off for the rest of his career.
History suggests that at best JORTS and JJ might be at Garzuric's level.
Regardless, nothing is impossible and anyone can break a "mold." I will continue to support both. I appreciate JORTS' attitude and understand he had a crappy situation in college and he played through it like a trooper. If anyone can break this mold I think JORTS is that possibility.
