Report: Jamal Crawford turned down the Knicks.

Frank Isola just twat:

Jamal Crawford has ruled out the Knicks..... "Shawne Williams please pick up the white courtesy phone."

If true, (and if you're not buying it from Isola, then here's Sam Amick confirming) then 1. Can't blame Crawford for following what will probably be a lot more money and 2. Shawne Williams is, indeed, likely to be on the line pretty quickly. Reggie Williams and Maurice Evans are probably still in the running for New York's "room" exception, but considering that Mike D'Antoni spoke today about trying to recruit Extra E, I'd bet that's the move. If it is, news will probably come in the near future.

Incidentally, Ish Smith just got waived. There are cheap guard options still out there.

Update: Reggie Williams is headed to Charlotte. It's poop time.

can anyone crunch the numbers on a sign and trade...

for reggie williams? balkman and bully + the 2.5 million?

that’d be a great (well, at least very talented) 4-some… offense/defense/youth. bibby, TD, shump and reggie.

by bucketsncents on Dec 14, 2011 5:47 PM EST reply actions

was thinking if they are under the cap...

they can take back a contract or 2 and the 2.5 million. this way we could offer reggie a slightly larger 1 year contract.

though a versatile 3/4 who can poop is very exciting as well.

by bucketsncents on Dec 14, 2011 5:55 PM EST up reply actions

Do we even want him?

I know he can pass, but he’s undersized and he can’t shoot for crap. There were reasons why he barely got play time in memphis.

What do you mean they won 4 cups in a row? Is that possible?

by OzzyFan on Dec 14, 2011 5:53 PM EST up reply actions

Sign Extra E now! I don't care if it takes te room exception.

R.Williams isn’t a bad option either if we want more offense, but I’d prefer Extra E’s well rounded game more and use as a 3-4 combo bench guard. I just don’t understand the evans talk and never understood the Crawford talk because we already have a bunch of guys at G: TD/Fields/Bibbly/Bully/Shump, we really have no need for another G. We need a F, or even 2 for the bench.

What do you mean they won 4 cups in a row? Is that possible?

Excellent photo choice

Being that there are two Williamses in that photo and Shelden is now the starting PF for the Nets, I say it’s imperative we sign Poope to the 2.5 and bring in Reggie at the vets min.

Great trade for the clippers. Really gordon, aminu, minny's 2012 and Kaman is not a huge price to pay for chris paul.

Its a fair price. Makes what the Nets are offering for Dwight Howard all that more pathetic, almost criminal. I really hope Dwight expands his shortlist.

by bababooey2 on Dec 14, 2011 7:15 PM EST reply actions

I think the clippers got jacked personally

I rate Gordon really highly he is a 25ppg scorer and younger I personally think Paul is a little over rated and has had a major knee injury that we are yet to see him recover from.

I think Gordon plus minnys number 1 woulda moat be a fair trade but maybe I am too Hightower on Gordon.

I thought the deal should have been centered around either

Minnesota’s pick or Gordon. When you are negotiating against the league itself, guess who has more leverage?
Anyway post-injury Paul is still 10x better than Eric Gordon.

Theybare actually pretty even and Gordon is still getting better whereas Paul has peaked and is potentially declining.

CP3 makes everyone on his team better

He controls the pace and flow of a game. He made the Hornets the most clutch team in the 4th over the last 8 years. Gordon scores 20 ppg at a fairly efficient clip.

by Mikel L on Dec 14, 2011 7:33 PM EST up reply actions

Gordon wasn't the first option in LA and he still put up 22 ppg

He could average 26 points a game as the number one option, Gordon will be an allstar this year and has top 5 scorer potential.

I think the rule is that an amnestied player who clears waivers has to take a vet's minimum

Either way it wouldn’t matter what we offer him because he’s getting paid the same amount no matter what we pay him, we’d just be paying a portion of what the clips already owe him.

He won’t clear waivers, though, so it’s a moot point

it's kind of funny to see how Hahn's also slowly getting bitter(or just jaded?) by the Knicks beat

When he started Knicks Fix it was also around the time I found this site, but it was amazingly informative and candid. And it was coming from a beat writer! It was amazing.

Didn't he just get a job with MSG though?

I had a similar experience. I spent last season on this site, TKB, and reading Hahn. I still check out TKB from time to time, but I’ve lost some respect for that place.

Berg is good for news but sometimes he's like a mini-Woj with his editorializing. Well, a mini-mini Woj since Woj started going crazy with his own editorials.

Made me sad. I’d read him since he was in the Bergen Record and was ecstatic a local guy had made it national. Than he went crazy on me.

I guess because they’re not anti-knicks like Woj usually is. Woj is damn good at his job, though. I just can’t stand his articles.

you're right

they are all anti-knicks. The only ones I have seen speak decently of the Knicks are Jalen Rose and Tim Legler on ESPN. Every move we make, they criticize, but any other team is okay. We sign Chandler, and they say “he get’s injured a lot” but none of them said that when he went to Dallas and won a ring. If we would have gotten Derron williams last year, it would have been a “bad move” but NJ which have a bunch of scrubs and he just wasting his time there is "good fit. one doesn’t have to be a Knicks fan to see that. Even some of my friends see that too. They just hate our franchise for some reason and even teams like Timberwolves and Sacramento Kings aren’t attacked or mocked the way we are. They are haters and make me sick. When lakrs tried to trade for CP3, everyone said “great deal for everyone” and we know it wasn’t a good deal for anyone but Lakers. If we did that, they would say it’s bad.

Yeah there's a huge discussion about the Davis conspiracy going on at the RealGM forums

most people think all of this injury stuff is a bunch of bullshit being scattered by the Davis clan so that he can only tell the Knicks that he’s good to go and no team will claim him. That’s some risky business.

by bababooey2 on Dec 15, 2011 12:25 AM EST reply actions

Davis was amnestied

Which means the Cavs get his contract off their cap but they still have to pay him. Now any team that is under the cap can bid X amount for Davis. Simple auction, highest bid wins.

Now if no team bids on him, he becomes an unrestricted free agent meaning he gets to decide where he wants to sign.

by Mikel L on Dec 15, 2011 12:29 AM EST up reply actions

It's been posted before but teams get 48 hours to prepare a bid

Only teams under the salary cap can bid if there are no bids after 48 hours he is a free agent.

I have irrational love for all of those guys, and would’ve loved to haev more than JJ and Balkman from that team on the squad, but I knew deep down it was never likely.

I kind of hoped that Poope was waiting to see what Jamal did, if he signed Poope would take the min, and if not we would reward his loyalty with the mini MLE, and it would be done as soon as we knew about Crawford.

Hopefully this is the case and Poope will be back at some point today
