The Knicks in the last 5 years

Props to Walsh, Double G, the Wark, and all others for getting us here: Contender. Take the jump to view our (abv.) journey from Dec. 15, 2006 - Dec. 15, 2011.

Star-divide

Here was our roster on Dec. 15, 2006:

http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200612150IND.html

9-16, our starting line up was: J Crawford, E Curry, J Jeffries, S Marbury, Q Richardson

-We had David Lee + Nate Robinson on the bench, Mardy Collins + Renaldo Balkman playing + 15 minutes.

-At some point this year, some guy thought it was a great idea to trade for Steve Francis and play him with Marbury.

___________

Our roster on Dec. 15, 2007:

http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200712150NYK.html

7-17, our starting line up was: J Crawford, E Randolph, J Jeffries, S Marbury, Q Richardson

-We still had David Lee + Nate Robinson on the bench, J Jeffries as our 6th man, and Mardy Collins + Renaldo Balkman given time to attempt at playing basketball.

-Small note, this was Isiah's last year. He did give us this on Jan. 3 2008:

"My belief and what I see and where I believe we can go as a team and an organization, I believe one day that we will win a championship here and I believe a couple of these guys will be a part of that," Thomas said before the Knicks were walloped at the Garden by the depleted Sacramento Kings, 107-97. "I believe I'll be a part of that."

Thomas admitted that his comments, which border on the absurd, leave him open for ridicule.

"As I sit here and I say it today, I know people will laugh even more at me, but I'm hell-bent on getting this accomplished and making sure that we get it done. And I'm not leaving until we get it done."

**Strange enough, he might be right (I mean, Jeffries and Balkman ARE on the team..)

__________

Our roster on Dec. 15, 2008 (Donnie + Mike D's first year):

http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200812150PHO.html

11-13! Starting line up was: A Harrington, C Duhon, W Chandler, D Lee, Q richardson

-Nate Robinson our 6h man, Tim Thomas shooting 12 times, and J Jeffries running into people.
__________
Our roster on Dec. 15, 2009: http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200912150CHA.html

8-16, our starting line up was: C Duhon, W Chandler, D Lee, J Jeffries, A Harrington
-The Cock! Larry Hughes running around, Eddy Curry's 10th game in his 4 year contract, or something.
__________

Our roster on Dec. 15 2010: http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/201012150NYK.html
16-10!! Our starting line up was: R Felton, W Chandler, D Gallinari, A Stoudemire, L Fields

-TD DWTDD, Turiaf dancing, Shawne pooping. -I HEART THIS TEAM

__________

Our roster Dec. 15 2011: http://espn.go.com/nba/team/roster/_/name/ny/new-york-knicks

UNDEFEATED!! Our (hypothetical) starting line up: DWTDD, Landry, Melo, T Chandler, STAT

-Hoping for the following: More pooping (and Shawne being resigned), Shumps dunking from half court, Jorts wearing Jorts during a game, Bully playing something resembling defense, J Jeffries playing something resembling offense, Bibby playing something resembling basketball, Balkman taking Seth at some point to a gentleman's club (freedarko:disciples of clyde ref, only thing I remember from that podcast, don't ask why).
__________

Seriously, lets compare our starting 5 from 5 years ago to today's:

J Crawford, E Curry, J Jeffries, S Marbury, Q Richardson

DWTDD, Landry, Melo, T Chandler, STAT

So if we could all take a moment to thank the following people:

-Issiah for being so historically bad at his job that Dolan had to fire him

-Stern for intervening and placing the care of our team to Donnie

-Donnie making our team resemble a basketball team

-Mike D trying to make a line up of that included C Duhon and J Jeffries play basketball

-Glen G and Wark doing great job so far

___________

It's crazy where we came from. I feel like running stuffing my mouth full of Cheetos then sliding on a slip and slide I'm so excited. Actually, I'm just gonna do that.

Not crazy about "Bison" either

just not feelin it for Bison. Aren’t bisons big slow creatures with humps on their backs? Maybe for Shaq it works.
However, let me remind you all once again of my suggestion of “MV3” for our starting front line.

Great job

nice post. It’s amazing how much better the roster is now from just a short time ago. And all the while the so-called experts in the media were saying it couldnt be done…cap hell, no high draft picks, Walsh too old and in a wheelchair, etc. This season will make the haters look foolish and I’ll be laughing the whole time. So pumped for the season!

Took a lot of sucking

To get to this point, but it needed to be done. Now that the team is clean of Isiah’s stink, we can finally move forward. To think how terrible we were during the 09/10 season…damn, still makes me shudder.

I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious.

I think it was Bobby V who said: "You are never as good as you are when you are at your best, and you are not as bad as when you are at your worst."

Like the really funny uncle with a healthy bourbon habit who matches every brilliant Thanksgiving story with one or two ill-advised racist jokes or boob grabs, we’re stuck with Melo. So we might as well learn to love him — quirks and all. http://knickerblogger.net/2011-report-card-carmelo-anthony/

I don't think he had much choice

The assets weren’t there for a CP3 trade. Given the opportunity I think he would have stripped the team again. But he did allow this to happen so I guess he gets some credit.

Probably

but in the end this was a better move and it puts us in the hunt finally. Amar’e should be a lot fresher at the end then he would have been without a quality big beside him. If anything CP3 would not have been as good for Amar’e’s health prospects. Long live the MV3.

awesome post

but i would’ve gone as far back as September 20, 2000. the day Patrick Ewing got traded to the Sonics was the day this team lost its soul, with every thick bone-headed move Scott Layden and Isaiah Thomas made.

now we have the MV3 and a compelling backcourt full of future talent. we are on the BRINK of something awesome. it took some faces we didn’t want to see leave, along with faces we thought we’d never see again dawn the blue and orange to get to where we’re about to be (eh?). i just want the season to start already!!

by renovator on Dec 16, 2011 12:01 AM EST reply actions

i agree

that is when the curse began and it pains me to this day because this dark age, as I liek to call it, could have been avoided. There was no need to trade Ewing at all. He could have been given a lesser role as he was aging and slowing us down against certain teams but he could have still been helpful and should have stayed out of respect and all he did for the Knicks. I was heartbroken when he was traded and couldn’t believe it. He was a true Knick and never left or teamed up with other stars to win a ring. He could have been a coward and teamed up with Barkley or something and won, but he stayed an d fought every year. JVG made a mistake during his time by not using Ewing wisely. We needed him against the Spurs in the finals, and we wouldn’t have beaten Miami without Ewing but there were times were Ewing was slowing the team down(like against the pacers). All one had to do was use him in a different way and this way none of this would have happen.

I remember watching him in Seattle and saw how the team was running fast and Ewing was doing just fine and Gary Payton didn’t wait for him to make it down the court and position for low-post game. They ran plays for him but for most part they ran down the court without waiting. knicks could have done same or play him less. Then there was Scott Layden and the Zeke regime. This was the dark age and man I still get nightamares thinking about those days. It took years to recover from that. But looking back at the above rosters, some of them weren’t so bad on paper. If we had a real coach back then, I think good things could have happen. The roster with Zack Randolph, JC etc, wasn’t so bad and I bet MDA would have done better with them. At least those days are over and we can smile again.

by RASHADI on Dec 16, 2011 3:36 AM EST up reply actions

I don't know where else to say this so I'll put it here.

I can’t stand how players suddenly become great assets when they leave the knicks. Such anti-knicks bias. They can’t get praised for anything

I just went to the nba page of espn.com and there was a video of Ric Bucher talking about the best free agent signings and he couldn’t even get through a few seconds of complimenting us. He talked about us signing Bison and the whole segment was about how he comes with a biiiiiiiiiiig price tag of $60 million plus. Which was news to me because we signed him for $58 million. I know it’s not a huge difference, but one makes it sound like we just threw the bank at him and the other is a fact which is fair market value. It’s the little things, like pretending to be a news organization and getting basic facts wrong, that bother me.

Do the Shumpty Shump, come on and do the Shumpty Shump

by DangerZone on Dec 16, 2011 2:12 AM EST reply actions

exactly

nobody was knocking on Tyson when he was with the Mavs, Hornets, etc. Suddenly we get him and now he is “risk.” If Stat would have gone to Miami instead, they would have said “great move” just as when he was in Phoenix they didn’t say he is a risk. Of course Stat has recovered from his micro fracture surgery and has been a beast ever since just as he was before. I have been noticing the bias against us for a long time now and makes me sick. I was telling my brother last night that I wish they would put me in the ring with all those “experts” on ESPN and the anti-Knicks wherever they are. Just give me few minutes to debate their arguments and I show how stupid they really are. New Jersey had a ridiculous record last year and the year before, but were still treated with more respect. If we had lost around 70 games, could you imagine what they would do to us?

We made the playoffs, Melo nearly beat Boston’s entire squad by himself, but not even a little credit for how hard we played. Makes me sick but at same time it just means we have to win and force them to respect us. If they respect us fine, if not, fuck them.

at the first game i ever went to (Home to Orlando, April 2008), it was the game which got me into Basketball and the knicks, the team is barely recognizable

Jamal Crawford
Wilson Chandler
Jared Jeffries
David Lee
Zach Randolph

With a bench of

Nate Robinson
Fred Jones
Mardy Collins
Renaldo Balkman
Randolph Morris

It’s crazy how far we’ve come in such a short period of time!
