Fear not, #Knicks fans. At least Jerome Jordan was officially signed today. Adds a 7-foot project center to the roster.

Well, there's that.

Mozgov redux

Let’s hope he can come out of the gate faster though.

he does have one thing working in his favor, though
Unlike most NBA players coming off of the five-month lockout, Jordan will hit the floor in game shape.

Actually Tyson Chandler buys him a lot more time than Mozgov had last year

We needed Mozgov last season to play major minutes to protect Amare. When Mozzie clearly wasn’t ready D’Antoni had to go into panic mode and start Amare at Center. Jordan is not in that same position. We can bring him along more slowly and not try to overload him with Stuff. If he can develop into a guy who can give us solid minutes off the bench down the road this season then great! But we do not have to overload the guy and throw him to the wolves before he is ready.

by Robert Curre on Dec 15, 2011 1:22 PM EST up reply actions

I think these guys are entirely different players.

Unfortunately, Mozgov was a lot better. Almost everyone said Mozzie would’ve been a lottery pick if he was in the draft.

The main difference between them is speed. They do the same things but Jerome does them much much slower, and with less authority.

Waiting for Christmas...

Now we got 44 and 55!

This helps with my disappointment in not getting Bonzi...

ok, kidding about that… but it is promising. As in promising for NEXT season, I don’t expect anything out of him this year. If he follows Tyson around like a puppy dog and soaks up every bit of knowledge about defending and rebounding, he might be serviceable after a full camp next year.

by Zhantee on Dec 15, 2011 1:40 PM EST reply actions

To think,

Before Tyson was signed, my hope for the Knicks championship aspirations rested on this guy being pretty good. It’s nice to not have to rely upon that happening. But here’s hoping he provides something on the court that helps us win a basketball game. He’ll probably get his chance at some point.

i wantes to make a fanshot

But can’t figure it out on my phone, so here is as good a place as any.

So, considering the Blazers amneatied Roy, if he makes of to secondary waivers, I think he’d be a perfect back up 2 or 3 if he’s willing to accept 10-20 mins a night AZ being either a facilitator or scorer. I originally thought he retired, but if they amneatied him, that means he still meant to play right? Isn’t that why we didn’t amnesty Houston back in 05 because he didn’t end up retiring. Just throwing stuff at the wall, because he still had some game left in the playoffs last year, and just being a bench Guy, he’d be at much less risk of injury and a serious spark plug odd the bench.

by MetsKnicksRutgers on Dec 15, 2011 3:46 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Roy retired

The Blazers may have amnestied him, but just to get him off the cap a year sooner.

The amnesty didn’t exist until the new CBA, so Houston was never amnestied.

Roy’s doctor told him if he tries to play, he may not be able to walk later in life. His knees have no cartiledge. He’s done.

by fuhry on Dec 15, 2011 3:55 PM EST up reply actions

yeah it did

We used the amnesty on Jerome Williams.

by MetsKnicksRutgers on Dec 15, 2011 4:09 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

thanks though

I understand why they did it now, like you said to avoid luxury tax and use the MLE on craw. I’m just surprised, he was retiring, and insurance is paying the contract (as per blazers edge). The amnesty is a handy little thing to hang onto, and that was the only downside to the Chandler deal IMO, that we burned it on a semi useful player who had a year left only.

by MetsKnicksRutgers on Dec 15, 2011 4:15 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Yeah

But the amnesty can only be used on contracts from the old CBA. So, really, we only could have used it on Amare, Melo, Billups, or Balkman. Would have been nice insurance for Amar’e, but it’s not like it was wasted on Billups

At least, STAT will never have to play the 5

Between Chandler, Jeffries, Jordan and Harrelson – we have enough centers to leave STAT at 4. Hopefully Jeffries can spell STAT at the 4 from time to time and these three guys can learn real paint-hogging D from Chandler.

One can hope.

Melo is more likey to play some 'point forward'

Than Landry handling the ball, MDA has already said Melo will be handling the ball a lot more but your point still stands that we have a lot of flexibility moving forward we can go big or small.

Totally unrealistic

And totally awesome.

I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious.

I'm optimistic

That he’ll be able to contribute towards the end of the season. Unless Bison gets injured, there’s no need to rush the kid. It seems he’s shown flashes of some talent in Europe, so let’s hope he gets brought along slowly and makes use of his height.

But to think, the season was dependent on him being at least as good as Mozgov…thank goodness it didn’t have to come to that.

Looks like E will start in NJ.

Anyone keen on Outlaw if he clears? Might get back to form without the pressure of the contract.

He was best as a guy off the bench anyway, NJ tried to make him a starter and that failed.

Doubt he clears, but I would love him on the vet minimum off the bench for sure.

You think we have any shot at kirilenko?

He’s made a ton of money and may just want to win now. I know we can only offer him 2X2.5mil, which is a gigantic pay cut, but he would be our perfect 6th man. Or maybe even start at the 2(I think he is arguably fast enough). Scary possibility, but seeing him just about shutdown 2’s and 3’s(sometimes 4’s if need be) as a starter while doing what he does offensively would be awesome. This is ultimately a dream though because someone will offer him $8mil/yr+ and he’d take it. But what a dream it would be to have his shutdown D and size added to our lineup.

What do you mean they won 4 cups in a row? Is that possible?
