The coincidence was uncanny: Blind bidding on the amnesty waiver wire, several teams with a chance to claim Chauncey Billups, and somehow the Los Angeles Clippers made the highest offer. All these years owner Donald Sterling was the bane of the commissioner’s existence, and now David Stern needed him in the worst way. All the times Stern let the creep slide on professional and personal indiscretions, the NBA knew the Clippers were the final, most legitimate suitor still standing to bail the league out of its own self-created Chris Paul debacle... Billips waiver process could have been a sham
Could the Knicks possibly get that amnesty waiver back? Could the Knicks, Lakers and Houston have grounds to challenge in court?

We could use it
We have 2 potential candidates for it in chandler with his injury history and STAT with his. I hope both stay healthy though.
This is absoutely, 100% dead on
Every NBA fan needs to read this.
But yeah, nothing’s changing, there is no grounds to challenge anything. This is Stern’s league, and he makes the rules.
We could be collateral damage in a Lakers or Houston lawsuit
It’s a stretch but if the Lakers could prove tampering by the commissioners office it could end up canceling the Billups deal which was key for the Clippers getting Chris Paul. Since Knicks are giving Billups $14 mil or so they could end up not getting the salary relief that is due for him getting picked up on waivers. It’s only a couple of million dollars out of the Knick’s pocket but maybe they could horsetrade it back into that amnesty chip. As I write this I realize how unlikely this is to occur but what the fuck?

count me out on this conspiracy theory
if there was a team that made a higher bid on Billups, they would have been screaming from the rooftops that they got screwed. this article is just a cheap ploy to get more mileage out of the CP3 scandal.

The point of the article is that
all bids for Chauncy went through thesame desk in the commissioners office. The Clips who needed a point guard to complete the maneuver for Paul bid just enough to win. Coincidence? No team made a higher offer than the clips, but the deck might have been stacked for them because of insider knowledge.
