Amar'e Stoudemire did not practice today and is questionable tomorrow against sacramento due to a sprained ankle. #knicks

Al Iannazzone twat it.

Amar'e turned that ankle something fierce last night.

im hoping this is like a blessing in disguise

dont get me wrong, i HATE that he’s out but maybe a couple days rest will get him back to playing like STAT in the new year. Do we dare start Balkman at the 4??

by blackhova on Dec 30, 2011 2:56 PM EST via mobile reply actions

I agree....

not to crap on Amare, but this might be just what the team needs. As long as it’s VERY short term (one or two games at most), this may hopefully result in some better ball movement, some more tenacity — ANYTHING different from what we’ve seen the past couple of nigts on the west coast.

I am convinced that amare needs to have a one on one sesh

With either Tim Duncan or bill Russell and learn about what winning basketball is. It’s certainly not trying to show off your ball handling “skills” every time you possibly can . . .

Winning basketball is about having a team loaded with talent

That’s a conversation for a GM.

i disagree

“winning” basketball to me is approaching the game where you are willing to do whatever’s necessary at any time to give your team the advantage. amar’e isn’t like that. he giveth with his jumper and finishing ability, but he also taketh with his stupid plays (thinking he’s a shooting guard with his handle . . . smh) and lack of defense and rebounding. he is not a “little things” guys, he is not an “intangibles” guy, and he is not a “hustle” guy. He does not really make his teammates better (I guess the argument could be made he draws defensive attention, but what does he do with that defensive attention? dribble the ball off his feet half the time . . .)

In my opinion, he needs to 1.) not force his teammates to have to try to compromise for him with his lazy team defense (this, i think is his biggest issue because it makes him almost a net negative) 2.)not force the issue and move the ball (ie, not dribble into three defenders) 3.) freaking box out and rebound! (this drives me nuts because it’s so easy to fix) 4.) he probably should have developed some semblance of a post game by now

the thing that frustrates me is that all of those issues other than 4 should be fixable by a mere change of attitude on his part, but i’ve got 8 seasons of evidence that says he won’t . . . really frustrating.

I almost hope the Knicks play terrible tomorrow (not really)

because if they win we’re gonna have to listen to all this talk about how the Knicks are a better team without him, and how it’s Melo’s team now and Amare is the odd man out.

It’s BS, but it’s gonna be all over ESPN if they look cohesive and win big. You know it.

Thanks for making us a contender, Donnie.

you still listen to them??

shame on you, turn them off right now… DO IT!!!

by blackhova on Dec 30, 2011 4:28 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Meh

I still hope they play well, regardless. Who gives 2 shits about the media, as long as they find a way to win, I’m good.

I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious.

Amar'e became a much worse player

since Melo came to Knicks. He just stopped driving to the basket with the same force (or any force at all) as at the beginning of the last season. It can’t be injury anymore, can’t be a lack of confidence (right?, I mean it can’t be?), so then what..

by YIK on Dec 30, 2011 5:26 PM EST reply actions

Before Melo got here it was his team

and they were starting to come together. Now, not so much anymore. That might tweak a lot of people. Even ones making $100 million. In any case, that’s life, you’ve got to move on. I think winning a couple of games might cure a lot of this.

And he hasn’t been playing much pick and roll

Melo's ISO-centric offense is STAT's kryptonite

Simple as that. The two were meant to play in different kinds of offenses and because Melo doesn’t need a good PG to initate his isolations, Amar’e is left out in the cold.

by flossy on Dec 30, 2011 6:19 PM EST up reply actions

i agree

It forces him to be more iso-like which is nit his game. Doubke that with a lack of pornt guard and hes hurtin. I just hope we play above 500 ball before davis comes in and instantly creates world peace. Not of the artest origin either

"they try to do what he do, and been where he's been, but they get folded in two.....he's the dude"

by semsemma on Dec 30, 2011 9:57 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

False

Melo only iso’s at the end of the clock. He’s been initiating the offense and creating mostly from sets and with lots of PnRs. You’re not seeing him clear out and go solo nearly as much as he used to. And if anything, Stat iso’s just as much, if not more.

Stat is struggling bc he’s limited offensively. He can’t function unless he’s in wide open space and facing the basket. But he’s got Tyson parked down low and Melo in the post a bit and he’s lazily settling for jumpers instead of screening and cutting to get opportunities. He’s a specialist. He needs somebody to create space and draw help defenders away so that he can do his thing. Without that, he’s handicapped and dribbling his way into 2 points for the wrong team.

by Crackback on Dec 30, 2011 11:12 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Seriously

It’s like you don’t even watch the games.

by flossy on Dec 31, 2011 1:56 AM EST up reply actions

Amar'e is screening and rolling plenty

But Bibby and Douglas can’t hit him on the roll if their lives depended on it. It was literally painful to see how many times he rolled to the paint, wide open, with his arms waving in the air, and they didn’t see him.

But I do agree, he settles for jumpers alot, and I don’t know why he doesn’t attack the basket more

its cuz the floor isn't as open

Carmelo doesn’t park his ass behind the 3pt line like Gallo and/or Chan did so there’s less space. And now we have TyChan who’s man usually leaves him when he gets 15 feet from the basket.

Its not injury, its not confidence, its passing. We don’t have good passers. Nobody has any rhythm on when to pass the ball.

i do think

He isnt in good basketball shape like melo is, yea, bc of offseason expeditions. But that only goes so far to contribute to his rust.

Want to know what i think? No?! Oh well…i think he has put on too much muscle. And im sure most of yall now, weigjtlifting can and will throw your shot off.

You have to find a new motion and he hasnt got it yet(due to the lack of ball he hasnt played over the summer) i mean, it sounds like everygame over 4 games now he has shot 2 for 8 at some point. Smh. He needs to get it going soon tho.

by semsemma on Dec 30, 2011 10:04 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Weightlifting does not throw ur shot off.

Jordan lifted regularly. NOT shooting throws ur shot off. Clearly Stat hasn’t been workin his J like he did last year.

by Crackback on Dec 30, 2011 11:17 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

his 3pt shooting says otherwise

it just seems that he’s not getting on a role like he was last year. It also seems like he feels that he doesn’t have to shoulder the load…so he doesn’t. This two “star” thing kinda sucks right now. There really is no place for 2 kings and learning to share isn’t as easy as it sounds. The only other two similar pairing is in Oklahoma City (2 scorers), but at least they have a TON of talent around them. Bench and starters included.

agree to disagree

True not being in the Gym will definitely give negative effect on your game, But your using the greatest player of all time as an example.. lol. Im sure others can do it, its not guaranteed to hurt your shot. But if your clearly bulkier from weightlifting, your range of motion changes…and like you said if your not in the gym to perfect your new range of motion it wont help.

I am not really enjoying the start of this season at all.

O/T but I have found myself watching a lot of Bobcats ball so far and I freaking love Kemba Walker brings a lot of energy on offense can shoot and is a surprisingly excellent defensively.

I really hope Shump can bring this when he gets back but he has to improve his shooting and shot selection

This year's Wolves team is hands down the greatest thing the NBA has seen since We Believe and the early 2000s Kings

Once Rubio and Williams get acclimated, holy shit. I just hope they don’t panic trade one of their long forwards.

Ricky is an average at best shooter and doesn't even look to shoot at all but he distributes the ball so well he hasnt really needed to so far

That was a really fun game to watch second time in a row it has come down to a final shot for Wade for the Heat to pull it out

This isn't the right thread, but I just need a place to vent.

It’s my last day of vacation before I head back to NY and back to work. I’m sitting on the couch at my parents house and I find myself on youtube, watching videos of the Phoenix Suns (Nash/Stoudemire et. al) running the pick and roll. I’m watching the Lakers run the triangle.

You know what I see? Ball movement, movement without the ball, high percentage looks and excellent court vision on the part of all the players on the floor.

In the end, this is what I want. I just want to be able to sit down on a Thursday night or whatever it is and say I watched good basketball.

by GiantNomad on Dec 31, 2011 2:55 AM EST reply actions

So if Amare sits who are they going to start at the 4???

Or do they start Bibby slide, TD to the 2, Landry to the 3??? etc.
