Today is a good day
Even though it is raining here in DC it is a very good day so far.
This morning I wake up and hear that Jerry Buss has decided he wants both Chris Paul and Dwight Howard. Whether the Lakers actually pull it off remains to be seen, but the fact that they have the most tradable assets of anyone looking to get in the Paul/Howard sweepstakes, and an owner with deep enough pockets that he will not flinch if he has to take back the contracts of Okafor and that Turkish fellow down in Orlando to pull it off, should scare the Knicks fans who rather spend their time pining for Paul rather than focusing on their own team into toning it down some. Because if you believe that Paul would not sign an extension in LA especially if Dwight Howard and Kobe Bryant are part of the deal, then I have some nice swamp land that might interest you.
Then I find out that Jared Jeffries will indeed return to play for the Knicks. Jeffries is a guy who is loyal to the Knicks organization and even Knicks fans even though they do nothing but hate on him. Jeffries whether he plays well or not always hustles and gives 100% effort whenever he steps on the floor. He also has a ton of heart and I like that in a player. It was Jeffries who stepped up in the Celtics series when our guys started dropping like flies, and even though he is a scrub didn't give in and just accept defeat. If more Knicks showed the amount of fight that Jeffries did in that series maybe we would have done better. To be honest if the mega superstar Lebron James showed the amount of heart a scrub like Jeffries did, he would have a ring right now. The truth hurts.
Then to top it off I hear that the Knicks have gotten back into contention to sign Grant Hill and Kurt Thomas. Thomas and Hill are two guys that D'Antoni wants very much on this team, but a few days ago it appeared that the Knicks had zero chance at either guy, However the Knicks have been engaged in frequent discussions with both guys and they appear to be listening. D'Antoni's desire to have these guys on the roster makes sense, they both played for him and know his system and therefore given the shortened training camp can come in and hit the ground running.
My reason for wanting both guys is simple. Hill and Thomas can still play ball and would make the Knicks a much better team. Not only because of what they can still do on the court, but their impact on some of our younger guys. We already have Billups ready to take Douglas and Shumpert under his wing, could you imagine the positive effect a consummate pro like Hill could have on a guy like Landry. Just watching how Hill goes about physically and mentally preparing for games will pay dividends for Landry, not to mention the impact of going against Hill every day in practice. Who better to tutor a guy like Jorts on how to play nasty physical defense and bang on the boards while not fouling out in five minutes than Kurt Thomas. Hell Thomas could probably even teach Turiaf a few tricks. But the biggest plus is that Hill and Thomas are two smart savvy players who know how to play the game the right way and at a high level, who will not be intimidated playing with Carmelo and Amar'e.
Imagine a Knicks starting lineup of Billups, Hill, Carmelo, Amar'e, and Thomas. Two all-star caliber players surrounded by three savvy vets who have been there and done all of that. Then you could come off the bench with a group of high energy guys like Shumpert, Douglas, Fields, Jeffries, Turiaf and Jorts. I think if you give D'Antoni that roster, he will say "Bring on the East, we will take on all comers." Also if you could not appreciate the kind of threat the Knicks would be in the east if they could put that together right now, then I suggest you call Pat Riley and ask him what he thinks. Of course, his answer may not be coherent because he will be too busy flinging curses into the phone to make sense.
So today is a good day!

count me in...
it’s a smart lineup that can win while teaching our young cats some things. whether or not it’s capable of winning a championship is up for debate… but it most certainly feels more like a “knicks” team (especially with crazy eyes kurt cloggin’ things upon his return to MSG) than some of the suggested alternatives.
now if we could squeeze in tony battie for added depth (not counting on jerome jordan… sorry)… it’d be a very merry christmas.
chucked in a couple of other fillers… thoughts?
billups, TD, carter?
g. hill, shumpty, mason?
melo, landry, bonzi?
amare, shawne, jeffries (i suppose)
kurt, jorts, battie (or turiaf i guess)
i would be so happy to root for that team all season.
I think it was Bobby V who said: "You are never as good as you are when you are at your best, and you are not as bad as when you are at your worst."
Like the really funny uncle with a healthy bourbon habit who matches every brilliant Thanksgiving story with one or two ill-advised racist jokes or boob grabs, we’re stuck with Melo. So we might as well learn to love him — quirks and all. http://knickerblogger.net/2011-report-card-carmelo-anthony/
So let me get this straight...
The guy who knows a thing or two about collecting rings is all in to get Paul and Howard. And we should be excited to have re-signed Jared Jeffries and should do what we can to get Grant Over the Hill and Kurt Thomas? What the hell?
Am I just me, or does line-up make u wanna slug a bottle of ensure and go to the senior center and get down on a rockin game of Bingo?

agreed
I’m decidedly in flossy’s “we’ve already given up on building through youth, no reason to treat our third-tier assets as untouchables” camp. I know they don’t have WAR for basketball, but if they did, I’d imagine that Chris Paul’s would be higher than our whole roster combined, save Stat, Melo and Chauncey.
"But when he saw it, he just put his hands up and they couldn’t give it to him. It just fell to the ground, I-I don’t, you know … So, that showed me he had great experience..." - Jeff Van Gundy

Why do people keep saying that?
Yeah, I’m the first person to scream out that we gave up a shitload to get Melo, but let’s not rip off the whole foot cuz of a broken toe. We’re not COMPLETELY void of youth and promise. I’d rather not give up any more of it. What’s done is done, but there’s always time to assess and tweak the strategy of how to build our team.
Hey, if CP does end up here through a trade, I won’t be happy about the rest of the guys behind our Big 3 being as devoid of talent as the Izod Center a couple years ago, but I’ll live with it because this is my(our)team. If he doesn’t, that’s fine and we can move on in another direction. I just don’t want us to throw up our hands and go “Welp, my Cock is gone. Might as well trade ALL of the kids!”
Fish Fingers give me a break.
I think of it like playing cards
It continues to amaze me that we gave up, either through cap-clearing or trade, a large number of 7s, 8s and 9s in order to acquire two Queens, and people were basically fine with that.
But trade a bunch of 3s, 5s and 6s for a genuine Ace? Heavens no!!
(Jared Jeffries is a joker in this analogy btw)

No one wanted to give up our "7s, 8s and 9s"
So for argument’s sake you can’t say people are acting unreasonable because they don’t wanna give up the “3s, 5s and 6s”. It’s because we gave up all those guys last years that we don’t wanna give up the remainer of our depth

LOL
Good to see you have your sense of humor. The problem is we have nothing to give up that "David Stern, remember he is actually running the Hornets would consent to allow Demps to take back for Paul unless we were shipping either Amare or Carmelo to the Big Easy for him. And since Flossy did a good job explaining why our trade package would essentially be crap, I should say that you should forget about trading for Paul. Maybe we get him as a free agent but sorry Crackback but our cupboard is bare we have nothing that any competent GM would accept in trade for a Superstar. And even if Demps wears a clown suit to the office everyday, any deal he does has to get Stern’s approval and that isn’t happening. Stern will let Paul go to LA, especially if the Lakers are giving up Pau Gasol to get him after all Gasol is an All-star still in his prime, But Billups and a collection of players that Flossy essentially called scrubs no way.
So we have to focus on what we can do to win some games now. With a short training camp bringing in two players who can fill a need and already know the system, gives us the best chance to get off to a good start which is vital in a shortened season. So stock up on your ensure, metamucil and depends son, cause the Knicks if they get their wish will have a starting lineup that looks like an AARP convention. And I will love every minute of it.

We are trying to make the Knicks an NBA Championship team not just a better team.
Yes, Jeffries is a good pickup for this year.
Everything that the Knicks do from here on out should be based on the next two years.
Next year get rid of D.Antoni and his coaching staff.
Trade Stoudemire for Howard and then ship Howard to the Clippers for Griffin/Kaman.
This year we eat C.Billups 14 million salary and then next year with the Howard trade we will then be 26+ million free in salary debt to play for our future PG.
C.Paul might go to L.A. and play with Howard. We can go after D.Williams to start with C.Anthony, B.Griffin next year.
T.Douglas/I.Shumpert is a solid second unit backcourt. Getting my O.J.Mayo this year via a future first round draft pick also is smart move now.
2012/Knicks Backcourt:
D.Williams-O.J.Mayo and T.Douglas-I.Shumpert
2012/Knicks Frontcourt:
B.Griffin-J.Jordan-C.Anthony and S.Williams-J.Jeffries-L.Fields
We will never win a championship with both Stoudemire and Anthony on the same team.
Let’s trade the one we got for nothing and get something.
We both agree we overpaid to get Anthony. By making the trade scenario with Stoudemire we make up for the blunder on the Anthony trade.
Yes Boston getting old and the rest of the division is far away from making the right moves. We have an opportunity hear that we should maximize to the fullest.
Because in the long run it is business and NBA Championships that count. Not just making the team better.
Howard isn't worth Griffen and Kaman and you're delusional if you think so.
The clippers aren’t giving up Eric Gordon for Chris Paul, so why would you think they’d up the ante to the tenth degree just to get Howard? Give D’antoni a year where he doesn’t have either:
1) shitty players
2) new players
3) shitty new players
He’s coached 63 players in his short time in NY and made it to the damn playoffs! I get that we haven’t been good. Really, I. Get. It. I hate it just as much as all of you, but D’antoni hasn’t been the problem, the players and bad contracts and radical roster changes are.
As far as trading Melo/Amare’ for Howard goes, I’d only do it for STAT and even then, Im skeptical because of his presence within this team right now. He is the leader. Can Melo step up to it here in the bright lights of NY when he doesn’t have a defensive game? Would Dwight?
I sure as hell don’t know, but I do know Amare’ can.
Oh My Lord
You are telling me that you would not want the following lineup for 20111 season.
PF/B.Griffin C/C.Kaman SF/C.Anthony PG/C.Billups SSG/O.J.Mayo
PF/S.Williams C/J.Jordan SF/L.Fields PG/T.Douglas SG/I.Shumpert
Get off the D’Antoni kick already because the clown and his staff are gone after this year.
Bye-Bye like your Gallinari.
