First, Matt Steinmetz brought it up and we were all laffin' and now Ken Berger jumps in and we're like WAIT, WHAT!? Here's what Berger has to offer:
Multiple league executives say the Knicks are now in the lead to land Tyson Chandler, jumping in front of the Warriors.
If the deal goes through, the Knicks use amnesty on Chauncey Billups and move Ronny Turiaf to make room for Chandler, sources say.
If Knicks amnesty Billups and move Turiaf, they could offer Chandler a four-year deal starting at about $14M.
I have no fucking idea, guys. One would suspect that this is a step toward luring Chris Paul to New York, but um...with what money? And does he really need luring? Is there a trade to be made? And what if the move actually exists in isolation and has nothing to do with Chris Paul?
I don't know. No idea. Nothing's happened yet, though, and nothing can actually happen until tomorrow. I'll keep updating when I see more.
Update: From Berger: "Can confirm @WojYahooNBA detail that one scenario in Chandler deal has Billups being traded. Amnesty also a possibiity."
Update: Marc Stein: "Source close to Tyson Chandler talks just told http://ESPN.com: "It's 98 percent sure that Tyson is going to wind up with the Knicks.""
Update: Marc Stein: "Now to see if Knicks elect to put Amare Stoudemire in trade proposals to New Orleans for CP3. Sources say it's one option Knicks considering"
