So what's your plan to get us a title?
Yes, the deal is hard so swallow. I know. It seems extremely short-sighted and rips at our heart. But let's establish a few facts before I move forward in this article. Jump!
1) We intend to contend for a championship during Amar'e's (damn, that's a lot of apostrophes) time here, preferably within the first 3 years.
2) While watching a young team grow and steadily improve around Amar'e, this team, as currently constructed, will not win a championship. Not happening.
Yes, it would be nice to add to the team that we currently have. But there is no way Melo hits free agency next summer. I absolutely don't see it happening. He wants the extension, and he's trying to get his money. By the way, I'm not judging him. Just stating something that has become prevalent in recent "insider knowledge". So, for the rules of this game, you can't assume that you add Melo through free agency.
This post is mainly aimed at the people that are opposed to getting Carmelo. What's your plan to win in the next 2-3 seasons? Who would you sign/trade for to get us that promised trophy? I would prefer FA signings, as they are easier to predict that a random trade scenario that probably favors the Knicks in a huge way.
Fans that dig the trade we're about to make can participate as well. Add Melo, Billups+spare parts (Balkman, Williams) and take out Chandler, Gallinari and Felton.
I would then like you to explain why your way of building the team to win a championship is better than what the Knicks FO is doing currently.
I hope we can have a better conversation in this thread than all the arguing about whether this deal is good or not. Have at it fellow posters!

My plan is simple
- Get the Knicks (and Rangers) a competent owner who will
- give Donnie Walsh an extension, and
- let Donnie do his job.

"Bounding and astounding!" - Clyde Frazier

1) Exile Dolan
2) Call Denver/Carmelo on its bluff and keep the lowball offer
3) Recognize that should he sign in Jersey, Donnie Walsh always has a backup plan and you do not fuck with him, James.

Letting Donnie Walsh do his job
Isn’t what I’d call a plan to get a title. What would you guys, as GMs, do? Specific moves you’d make.
I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious.
Vince Lombardi
1) Make Carmelo and Billups trade for Chandler (cuz he’s not likely back), Felton (since push comes to shove), Curry (who cares) and Randolph (what a shame). I think Azu’s contract needs to be in that too, big deal.
2) Pray that Jajuan Johnson falls to our first round pick. With our 2 2nd rounders (assuming we keep them) let Marky Wark show his scouting skills. Either than or make him streak in front of Stern at draft day
3) Pray that the CBA and either CP3 or Deron Williams’ desire to win makes them sign up with us in 2012, or if a Carmelo situation occurs next year trade Billups’ carcass, Gallo/Fields or 2012’s Landry/Jajuan Johnson for one of those PGs.
4) Sign Vassilis Spanoulis. The Knicks are scouting him.

as a side note
Jajuan Johnson’s a senior and has an Amar’e like offensive touch. Basically one of the major faults of all Pringles’ teams, a backup PF/C that can do what Amar’e do, would be either solved right away given his polish, or in the future.
And he could also be Amar’es successor.

my plan would be
to have Stat and Carmelo together. CP3 would be the next target and we in business for sure. In fact, if we lost Chandler, Felton, Curry, and a draft pick for Carmelo and Chauncey while being able to add them to Gallo, Fields, Stat, etc, I would take on whoever without fear. I wish this trade would have happened sooner or even before the season began.
Plan......
make the trade for Carmelo……use any of our picks that we have on PG’s and then go hardcore for Dwight next off season…. I would rather try to bring in a rookie pg and have a team of howard, amare, melo, fields, and any pg in the league then melo, amare, and paul or williams…. a huge front court with an average pg will do damage over any team in the league
