I would love to trade for Carmelo and I wouldn't mind giving up 2 of the Medium 3 (Gallinari, Chandler, Fields. They will now be known as the Medium 3 because they are not good enough to be a Big 3 and when people say Big 3 and Knicks they mean Amare, Carmelo and CP3.). However, my big peeve is swapping Felton and Billups. Felton is better, younger and cheaper. Also, whats the point of swapping point guards anyway? They will both have to learn the new system and that will take some time. And Billups will not fit into our system.
However, it is apparent that Denver is not willing to cooperate and they want to make a trade where they actually get decent value. If they want to unload some salary onto us, thats fine. But I don't want Billups.
I proposed this trade:
We get Carmelo and Nene
We give Curry, Chandler, Gallo, Walker, Mozgov and a first round pick (Randolph)
I want Nene. He is the center that we need. He is a free agent this summer but I heard he would like to come to New York and if Carmelo was here then that would give him more incentive to come here; he would have a friend. Nene is a great defender and will control the paint.
With Tony Douglas playing better lately, our need for a backup point guard is of less concern. This trade patches up both of our major holes. It gives up a legitimate center and it also gives up a second star to take the load off of Amare.
We lose Chandler but he has basically the same skillset as Carmelo and we would likely lose him after this season anyway. We also lose Gallinari which is kind of sad but realistically, do you think he would actually blossom into the player we were hoping if is sitting on the bench while Carmelo starts at SF? We would have Fields at SG and Amare at PF so there is no place for Gallo but the bench. We also lose Mozgov but if we have Nene then we don't need Mozgov. Walker is a nice player coming off the bench but I needed to include him to make the salaries work, but I suppose we could replace him with Azubuike or someone.
Anyway, it is also nice for Denver because they get plenty of value for 2 players that they would likely lose for nothing anyway.
Get 'er done.
