Different topic- STAT
A few of the more observant people here saw that STAT's not played too well lately. He hasn't had the same bounce in his step. Some think he's injured, and maybe he is. After the game last night, he and D'Antoni both admitted he's been tired.
D'Antoni said that Amar'e's been tired but didn't mention any solutions, as usual. Amar'e said he realized he was tired in the first quarter but decided to just play through it. Maybe he shouldn't have taken all those shots when he knew he didn't have it.
So what do you think? Should STAT sit for a few games? Punch someone in the face for a suspension? Should the Knicks tank their way to the 8th seed so they can play Chicago?

Play Him
At least win two games b4 we bench to get some convinced back. They did say last night it was mental.
The greatest player ever!!!
I’ve got the perfect solution….MDA change your system to accomadate your players! With the personnel we have and lack of depth, we he should really consider on slowing the game down. Develop a halcourt scheme that works. When we played Miami, we kinda played at a slow pace and it helped in the finish. Chauncey even mentioned we should play slower in the postgame interview. It would definitely slow down on the wear and tear on players who play too minutes as it is.

The Knicks have slowed down considerably have you not noticed
We went from being the second faster team in the league, to the 5th slowest. How much slower do you want to play pal. We walk the ball up like 3/4’s of the time now!

One reason the team is less fun now
Slow teams aren’t fun to watch, especially when there’s no defense either
You want fun, go watch the Mavs play.
I’ll take a slow defensive minded team over your very exciting high scoring I can’t ever win in the playoffs non physical unable to rebound team anyday.
ITS CALLED DEFENSE! D.E.F.E.N.S.E.! I MAYBE-I MAYBE WRONG...BUT I DOUBT IT!
I did
I saw the Mavs in Dallas. It wasn’t that fun. They’re not the Mavs of 2005. As I said, I’m fine with slower, solid play, as long as there’s defense. But if there’s no defense, you might as well keep the pace up.
We’ve slowed so down that we’re not putting up 130 a night and instead are scoring 100.
ITS CALLED DEFENSE! D.E.F.E.N.S.E.! I MAYBE-I MAYBE WRONG...BUT I DOUBT IT!
We need to keep the game in the 90’s or less, get back on d in the fast break, and have better switch schemes on the pnr.

stop living in the past
I think it was Bobby V who said: "You are never as good as you are when you are at your best, and you are not as bad as when you are at your worst."
Really we have not played 7 seconds or less since this trade!
Really people watch the games and stop stereotyping the coach!

the idea of Mike D compleatly changing his entire coaching philosphy to accomodate one player
is so backwards in my eyes.
Mike D belives in a system. to ask him to coach in a way that conflicts with that beleif is backwards. They would be better off getting a new coach.
There is no reason Melo cant play in Mike D’s system. Other then he doesnt care about the team enough to adapt.

He changed because Billups cannot play that fast.
Remember Denver had taken to playing Lawson and Billups on the floor together so Lawson could push the pace. Billups does not have it in his legs anymore to push for 35 minutes. So you gotta work with what you have. Ironically if Pringles insisted that Billups push the pace, everyone would be killing him for making Billups work that hard.

i would rather billups pushed it for
20 min then slow it down for 35

melo can play fast or slow, tha isnot the problem for him.
Ideally in time, mike would mix it up, they will search for easy points in transition and it hthey are not there, than you have to have great half-court offense schesmes and plays. Mike should eventually implement some characteristics of triangle in his system, where both our scorers could flourish, but this will take time. Mike has a lot of options how to play on offense, cause bot melo and stast areversetile and can score or make plays in multiple ways. Versatility is greates value that melo brings, like i said he can basically execute every play in the playbook, so we have to maximize that. You have to understand one thing, that purpose of this process is not that melo onlly adjust to dantoni system, but that he become great player in this system. His value and influence has to become similar to that of nash back in pheonix days (offcourse in his own way as combination of playmakin and scoring). To find this balance it will take time, but you already could see preview yesterday against Orlando. Patience is here really virtue.
I like
Proud Islanders fan, the organization that iced the greatest team to ever play the game and won 4 straight cups. Best overall player in the nhl right now=Pavel Datsyuk.
I'm also an optimistic Knicks fan, pessimistic Mets fan, and a happy Jets fan.
He should rest a game against a bad team. If we lose, then we have an excuse.
And we should send Amare to a spa for a day or 2. Let the man relax, get massaged, hot tub/sauna time, and just chill.

I'm torn.
Certainly, while the playoff race is still pretty real, it makes sense to keep the best guys on the floor.
If and when the Knicks clinch…I’m not sure how I feel about Amar’e (and/or Billups. Mostly Billups, really) getting some rest. The Knicks kind of need to take every available opportunity to build chemistry. It’s a toughie.
i kind of feel like
i want them to fall out of the playoffs.
this team does not deserve to be there. and it will net us a better draft pick.
I dont like getting things that are not earned. This team has done nothing to earn that playoff spot. The downside is it will prob lead to Mike D getting fired, or at the least me having to listen to every retread tell me that Mike _’antoni is the reason the knicks are the worst team eva!
I mean, i dont want that. but its hard for me to celebrate the idea of this team making the playoffs. I knew there was a game on last night that I would miss while at work, but i didnt care enough to set up the DVR… first time I did that since like 2005.
I think it was Bobby V who said: "You are never as good as you are when you are at your best, and you are not as bad as when you are at your worst."
Would you feel that way
if they got there and actually won a series?
Not that it will happen, but that would be huge for the Knicks not named Melo and Stat. Just playing in the playoffs and learning the difference between reg season and postseason will help them in their development. I think they need to be there, for the fans psyche, for confidence leading into next year, etc.
I look at Chicago. Remember Rose’s rookie year when he and the Bulls took Boston to 7 games? Look at Rose now, that shit changed him. They say players are born in the postseason. You never know who will take it to another level. And if anyone on the Knicks has a gear we dont know about, we need to find out ASAP. Melo, Burps and Stat included.
The Triple Felt Goose movement shall live as long as I am around.

it doesnt mean they need to win
just treat the remaining games as a training camp. win if its an easy win if not dont gamble and rest their legs for the playoffs

I actually agree that he should just go apeshit (RACIST)
and get the suspension over with. Take a few days off, knock the dust off a few Jewish co-eds and come back re-energized.
Maybe Chuckie and Duckie will build some chemistry with what we got. And Derrick Brown will gets some run

yea stat has been tired
because of dantoni’s bullshit system……… look at it 3 of the best finishers can not get it done in the 4th quarter they settle for jumpshots and that is all fatigue….. i cant wait till dantoni gets fired so we can stop watching our team die in the later part of games
I'm going to quote Robert Currence from one of the very first comments on this post dude.

Additionally, Carmelo is out of shape, Billups is too old, and Amar’e is too worn down from being the alpha dog all season. It’s not a game by game thing. ADDITIONALLY, who should we play instead? Our only bench player who is multidimensional in any way is Toney Douglas. Shawne Williams, Bill Walker and Roger Mason can hit threes, but can’t create for themselves or others. None of them are great defenders. Shelden Williams, Renaldo Balkman, Ronny Turiaf and Jared Jeffries are all decent defenders I guess, but are also huge offensive liabilities. That leaves Andy Rautins (gross), Anthony Carter (old) and Derrick Brown (whatever).
In the playoffs I expect Billups, Douglas, Fields, Carmelo and Amar’e to get a shitload of minutes because who else is really deserving of them? The way our current roster is constructed, I expect there to be even more player turnover the next two seasons.
you know Pringles system is why Amar'e is good right?
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
Did you know that this is now Amar'e worst season?
I guess Nash did help after all. He was slightly better in Porter’s system with Nash than he is now.
I did not now that
mostly since I know its not.
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
You know it's not?
He’s been good this year, but he’s only shooting 50%. That’s pretty lousy. In past seasons he shot close to 60%. If he wasn’t double/triple teamed he’d probably have better numbers, but this is what happens on a bad team, when he also forces shots when he’s tired.
Nash got him easy shots
I’m not sure that means Amar’e’s been worse. Actually I know Amar’e is not worse. He’s showing how diverse his game is.
Those stat you threw up are crutches for people who don’t watch the games, and I know you watch the games. Amar’e been better.
Nash gets Amar’e about 10 easy points a game. Its not Amar’e’s fault Felton, Douglas and Billups are three of the most incompetent PnR PGs in the NBA.

He's been better all around, yes
But in terms of helping the team win, a PF shooting 50% isn’t very good. Even David Lee did better than that with the Knicks. Amar’e is forcing too many bad shots when he doesn’t get the ball where he should, or when he’s tired.
he's put up less high percetage shots
again, not his fault. He’s gone weeks without getting a pass in the paint like he did almost every other possession in Phoenix. That’s a lot of easy points.
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
He hasn't looked rite since the first Memphis game when he went down.
I wish we were in a better position to let him sit for a game or two, but til we finally clinch a spot Amare’s going to have to play thru it.
"I don’t think you can be an NBA champion without being a solid defensive team," Billups said. "I don’t know if you’ve got to be the best defensive team in the league. But you’ve got to have some principles and some concepts that you can go to and be able to get stops for three or four minutes at time. With the athletes we have we can probably do that. But it takes work."
MDA Are You Listening???
and he definitely hasn't looked right...
since he had a PG who could penetrate and dish.
by bucketsncents on Mar 24, 2011 7:04 PM EDT up reply actions
He looks tired and worn out
I noticed that even before the trade that he hasn’t been as aggressive on offense as he was earlier. No doubt he is tired or otherwise I imagine he would go strong at the basket. That was the reason why the Pacer center was able to block Stat in that game because he was going up soft and slower than usual. I don’t think it’s the MDA system so much but our schedule with all them back-to-back games are the bigger factor. You look at the Lakers and other teams, they haven’t had such schedules and theirs always seems to be convenient. I wonder what is up with that and who makes these schedules like that.
18 games in one month
and like 6 back to backs.. after running Stat ragged the first half of season .. It’s not the D’antoni System .. STAT has played almost his whole NBA career under this system.. it’s the fact, that there is no real consistent backup for Stat.. and it’s even worse now after the trade
