Damn It Feels Good To Be A Knick Fan...
The truth is Melo is making our team a legit threat for a championship for this year and the next couple of seasons by himself. Then when you add Amare (GOD) who i still give all the credit in the world too for bringing the knicks back from being the laughing stock of the NBA, We have two SUPERSTARS that can easily change any playoff series we are in. After The jump I'll Give You all the reasons why I am excited about being a Knicks fan for the first time since The days of Latrell, Houston,Ewing and Larry Johnson (And His Grandmama!)
Hi, I've Been a Knicks fan ever since the early 90's when we had fierce rivalerys with the Heat, Pacers and Bulls. I used too love the tough rugged style of basketball that was associated with New York Knicks and with guys like Oakley not letting any one slip up without making them pay for it, it made it very exciting to watch every game. Now that the rules have changed and its looked down upon for fighting and trash talk to be apart of the game but i still see flashes of it.
Now The playoffs are coming up and i can't even begin to describe to you guys how awesome it feels to finally be back in the post-season. I love the Melo trade because my philosophy is that you need Stars and clutch players if you want to contend for a championship. Don't Get me wrong i loved Felts, The Cock and my main ma ILL Will and i do feel like the nuggets used their leverage to make us give up alot for Melo but at the end of the day we aqquired a LEGIT Nba Superstar and a point guard who knows how to win championships and has won championships. I know at first the trade has not looked like we made the smart choice but now as you can see, if we give this team the time it needs to gel, then the possibilities are limtless to what this team can become.
Melo and Amare are the nucleus to our Knicks team right now and if we keep consistent, young, athletic players around them, a few NBA vets craving a chamipionship and if make the right choices in the draft then our future is looking pretty bright.
AMARE has already proven that he can lead this team and despite how everyone calls him out for his defense, it is not because of a lack of effort. He is a beast when it comes to one on one defending and he is getting so much better on help defense. People need to understand its hard to give 100% effort for 40 mins in the NBA when your facing the best of the best. But Amare does always show up when it counts and makes key plays on offense and defense when we have needed him. That Block on Lebron still goes through my head everytime i think of how fun it has been to watch Knicks this Season and how happy i am that we signed the $100 million dollar man instead of LeChoke this offseason. Also Amare is clearly one of the best offensive big men we have in the game today and one of the few who can turn a bad possesion into a scoring play out of thin air, he cannot really be contained when he's hot because he will score from any angle in the post and has a stone cold jumper that he can hit at a high percentage. In other words Amare is a person who I wouldnt mind taking the last shot in the game, a player that i have 100% faith in to play his hardest at all times to provide leadership that we haven't seen since Ewing was playing and is a Superstar that other teams have to gameplan for and know where he is for the full time he is in the game.
MELO, Melo, Melo....What more can be said about this man? Everybody was questioning him after the trade. Is he really a superstar? Is he worth trading a group of young talented players for? Can he handle the pressure in NY? Is he good enough to defend everynight and live up to the hype? Well from his recent play my answer would be YES. I Know its a small sample size of games because he was traded midway in the season but from watching games, its clear to me that he has stepped up his defense tremendously and he has embraced being a STAR in the Garden. He has always been in the top 3 in the league offensivley and you can see why from watching every Knicks game. He hits impossible shots and makes it look easy. Watching him shoot reminds me of Alan Houston when he was in his prime and at that time i was a bit younger and i thought every time he shot it was going in. He has also shown he is willing to be a facilitator on offense because he does find the open man in the corner or for an easy lay-up when the defense traps him. He is smart with the ball and has a good eye for what the defense is doing so it is almost a forgone conclusion that he can score at will whenever he wants too or put the ball where it needs to be. The thing that made me admire Melo most after this trade is ever since that game against Orlando he has shown he can shutdown anyone on defense and can make clutch steals/blocks when the knicks need it. Ever since then i have not seen one possesion where he is letting his man get anything uncontested. If Melo can keep this up and i think he will...Then we are one step closer to being a championships knicks team for a long time.
Don't get me wrong im not saying we are now the best team in the world and will win 4,5,6,7 championships like the heatles promised but we are now a much better team and a THREAT to win every night. I think all we are missing is a solid, Athletic center to help Amare in the post and overall the knicks need to embrace playing defense for 48 mins a night but with that being said i have confidence in this knicks team haeding into the playoffs and i think we can beat any team. Any night. In the playoffs you have to take it one game at a time and play your hardest that night to win. I dont know about you but with Amare and Melo on our side, i feel confident that they can give us a chance to win each game and im hoping on bringing the rivarley back that we had with the heat and also to take away the celtics dominance of our division.
So overall im happy the Knicks are finally back and im excited to see what the future brings - MakD

yea me too…
I’m really pumped about the playoffs…and I agree, I think Melo has been turning it up on the defensive side of the ball lately…and he does have a pretty jumper….Amare is a beast…
Personally, I don’t think we get out of first round…but at least we have a puncher’s chance now….and knowing that just makes me can’t wait for the playoffs to start
A Chance...
Feels good to finally say we have a chance now lol but yea i can’t wait for the first round…I just have a feeling that we can surprise either the Cltics (remember the hawks last yr) or we can shut the heat down in their first try with the big three
Looks like we are playing the Celtics and I think they may be a better match up
but I do feel like they are playing possum
Freedom is a road seldom traveled by the multitudes...
Same thing that happened last year
They stumbled into the playoffs looking old and done…then made it to the finals again. Either way its going to be a tough match up but Boston’s experience gives them the edge from my view but their are not nearly athletic as us
It'll be our job to keep them from getting momentum
I’m going to go way out on a limb and say that if the Celtics can handle the Knicks, then there’s no team in the East that they can’t handle. I just think we are the worst match-up for them, because we have guys who can really score even against their defense.

If we do get the Celtics
Does finishing the season at Boston benefit us or harm us? I can’t decide how I feel about it.

No they are not. Doc is seriously worried about his team
Listen to what Rivers has been saying of late. last year The Celtics were on cruise control and lost a bunch of games, but Doc kept saying don’t worry we got this. Doc was so calm and confident last year people wondered if he was delusional. He said things would fall into place when the playoffs started. Then he flipped the switch into championship beast mode and the Celtics ran thru the east like a hot knife thru butter. He doesn’t appear so confident that he can flip the switch this year. Listen to Doc what he says and what he doesn’t say. He is worried.

I agree with you
So i dont know where the no is coming from lol i said it will help our confidence to beat them because we are o-3 against them in the regular season…but i think we have a real good chance to upset Boston in the first round
Tell Me I Can't, I Won't Hear You- Amare (GOD)
I agree with you here
Doc and the team were very confident at the end of last year even tho they were limping into the playoffs…they still were the most playoff ready, physical defensive minded team in the field last year which is why I didnt count them out to go far last year…
This year, not so much and Doc does seem VERY worried….
What i don't get is that Perkins played what, 10 games for the Celtics this year
Yet it seems that overnight they went from a good rebounding team to a crappy one and from an elite defensive team to a below average one. That cannot be explained by the Pekins trade because they played without him most of the season and their rebounding and defense were fine. They now look like a very soft team on the boards and the routinely fail to close out on shooters. Strange very strange. And it seems that Doc does not have answers.

Yea I found that funny too
I think the age of the Celtics might really be catching up to them because the only player left on that team that is really know for their defense and rebounding is KG…nd no matter how great of a player KG is, at this point in his career i don’t think he can carry this Boston team defensivley throughout the whole playoffs.
And if they have one injury to their big 3 in the playoffs…i think they are done
Tell Me I Can't, I Won't Hear You- Amare (GOD)
Perkins was a big time motivator for their front line.
When Shaq gets in the game I can see us going full throttle in our transition game.
Freedom is a road seldom traveled by the multitudes...
If Shaq gets in the game . . .
Still on the fence about Carmelo's dopey smile
Perkins is not that great a rebounder
he averages 6 or 7 boards, something like that. He’s a very “off-the-ball” sort of player.
The Celtics have been the worst team on the offensive boards all season, because their gameplan is to move back and get set up on D.
I don’t understand why this Perkins trade affected them so much. They looked fine without him for most of the year. Maybe it’s a mental thing: they now know they have to depend on a couple of ancient O’Neal’s if they want to have a real presence in the middle.
Still on the fence about Carmelo's dopey smile
You miss the point on his rebounding
Perk’s effect on the boards cannot be measured by stats, because there isn’t a stat for assisted rebounds. Perk was very good at keeping balls alive and tapping them to teammates when he himself couldn’t grab the rebound. Think about Rondo’s triple doubles last year, how many of those rebounds came as a result of Perk Batting a ball up or back where Rondo could pick it off. Rondo gets cred for the rebound but Perk created it.
by Robert Curre on Apr 11, 2011 5:58 PM EDT up reply actions
true and he also boxed out well so that other Celtic players could get the boards
He is gone now and this will hurt them. When these 5 players were healthy, nobody could beat them in a 7 games series the last 3 years. They would have probably won the last 2 championships if they had been healthy. Last year it was Perk who went out in the finals, and it was KG the year before. This year is totally different and this trade has weakened them mentally.
I think the Perkins thing is also a reflection on Boston's frontline
They are left with a very aging and fragile Shaq and Jermaine O’Neal. Perkins (also kinda fragile) played with an intensity that they now lack. And Perkins could block a shot or two and play good post defense. He was definitely a glue guy and with now with at least one O’Neal constantly hurt, Boston’s frontline is almost naked and just askign to be exploited. Sure Garnett can still rebound and defend very well, but he also needs a break.

Last year
They were struggling all year with a clearly diminished KG. Then, around playoff time, the guy started to get healthy and they basically had their championship team together again.
This year, the team was blindsided by the Perkins trade, and they’re having a tough time finding the chemistry. Even though they didn’t have him all year.
You know, I think while Doc IS worried about Boston's ability...
We shouldn’t forget that they STILL have a legit 4-man threat. I don’t think Boston is gonna win an NBA Title this year, but they are still a very good team and very dangerous to play in the playoffs. These guys may be getting old, but look at them in the season… they make a living coming back to win. Boston is a wounded animal. Wounded animals are often the most dangerous because they are so unpredictable. I think the Knicks are very much capable of pulling an upset over Boston, but this is gonna be a very difficult series. Can’t underestimate the Celtics… that is what they are hoping people do (just like they did last year).

I think most people recognize
they do have issues….not as strong as last year and they have aged more. But they are still a VERY legitimate threat….
ezperience is the key to playoff wins.
I think it was Bobby V who said: "You are never as good as you are when you are at your best, and you are not as bad as when you are at your worst."
Personally
I think if we play Boston its going to be a 7 game series and Melo Will take over their Garden to bring us to the 2nd round. But even If the Celtics Do beat us, they are going to be tired and their 2nd round opponent is going to take advantage of that
Tell Me I Can't, I Won't Hear You- Amare (GOD)
Celtics are not the same
perhaps the biggest reason Celtics were so dominant last year was because of the current Bulls coach who was their assistant and their defensive mind. It wasn’t Rivers and never was. It was the Bulls coach and he’s gone now. The Perkins trade also took a tole on them, and even though he was injured most of this season, it still made them weaker mentally. Perkins was tough and his presence made a difference. No matter what Ainge says, Celtics screwed up by trading Perkins and they would have been screwed had they traded Ray Allen last year when they almost did. I am not afraid to face the Celtics and I felt we could have beat them all 3 times this year, and the last game especially. Even though the Bulls, Heat, and Celtics are the best teams in the east, anything is possible and they can be beaten.
celtics are not the same
you gotta remember this team also lost Rasheed Wallace (as well as Perkins). Rasheed was another willing defender who could rebound and block shots and take pressure off of Garnett and Perkins when they went out of the game. Boston’s dominance is over because they do not have the dominant defenders they once had that allowed Ray Allen and Paul Pierce to just go out and put up points. We will get by them in the first round because they lack the players to do all the dirty work that needs to be done in order to succeed in the playoffs. it’s too much to ask one of the big 3 to do it and expect them to do what they do well. I give them all the respect in the world but its time to pass the baton…your run is over!!!
"We have the pieces here you just don't know it yet". Donnie Walsh.
idk guys
i fear the Celts in the playoffs. Something about them… I dont think they are gonna have a big fall from grace. I think its gonna be more go out with a bang kinda thing. But I base that on no facts of any kind.
I think boston wont be intimidated by MSG. It will be so loud in Boston too. But it will be so quite in MIA compared to MSG (there may even be a good number of knick fans there) that I think it will help with the mind games.
I would prefer MIA.
I think it was Bobby V who said: "You are never as good as you are when you are at your best, and you are not as bad as when you are at your worst."
Boston's arena is not an intimidating atmosphere
The only thing you have to worry about is food poisoning in the team hotels, otherwise it’s not too bad. Most of their fans spend the entire game checking the score of the Red Sox game

Melo
All i know is that Melo is one of the most if not the best clutch players in the NBA and if you have a player like that on your team then i can’t see how you can ever count us out of a game. He can go off at anytime
Tell Me I Can't, I Won't Hear You- Amare (GOD)
From What i see
Yea his defense has been getting alot better IMO. I watched alot of Knicks games and from what i see it is not because Amare is not trying…Its just sometimes he is in alot of bad positions on the defensive side of the ball because of the stle of offense we run.

You need to learn to play defense. D E F E N S E. It in the dictionary, under defense.
Until then, you will be only an exciting team.
Is that what that is?
Hmmm
