Adelman available

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=6384752

Adelman has left the Rockets. He is one of the best coaches in the NBA. He has gotten the most out of his players for years, and overachieved frequently. The Rockets were significantly better than the Knicks this year, despite no stars and a 6'6" center. He was 2nd for coach of the year 4 times.

Star-divide

Who would rather have him instead of D'Antoni? He's handled stars before, done well to develop young players, and has had great success in many different cities.

take one look at our roster

2 players son, 2. Then hope and pray Billups is healthy, one of the Centers aren’t having that time of the month, TD, Poop and/or Walker are showing up from 3 and maybe Landry Fields reverts back to his pre-trade form.

This team blows. Did you honestly take a step back and realize who was on the court from the 2nd quarter on?

D’Antoni ate shit for the Knicks for 2 years, finally got some players, and coached the Knicks into the playoffs despite a massive roster upheaval and more or less successfully integrated a new focal point and point guard into his offense in 1/4 of a season

Soon as I read the article, I envisioned a post on this site about swapping coaches.

I like Adelman and all… well… not his haircut. But yeah, I see absolutely zero reason to can D’Antoni at this point.

Shit, even if we get swept by Bahston (we fucking better not!) I expect (and want) to have him on the sidelines at least through next season.

The guy IS a good coach, who has flaws like every other damn coach out there. But he also deserves a consistent roster to work with. Adelman was actually in a similar situation in Houston with injuries and such. It’s NY and we ARE very impatient, but I’m totally done over-analyzing Pringles and taking every Knick loss as if it is the beginning of something so awful that we need to dump our coach.

so? I’m not gonna bash ur opinion (even tho I really really want to) so I’ll say this, I see why you want adelman. He is a very good coach. But regardless of either guy’s coaching ability and talent, why is a coaching change needed at this juncture? I’m not sure why it’s being brought up.

The team has slowly but surely responded and gotten progressively better to the point where they’ll at least play something recognizable as defense sometimes! In all seriousness we’ve gotten better and like it or not it has been with Dantoni.

D’antoni’s personality doesn’t agree with me. I also dislike that his name has two apostrophes when displaying possession, that in itself I’m sure is satanic in nature. On top of all this I am quite sure there are better coaches on the market but that isn’t the point.

The point is he is the best coach at the moment for this team. A team built around his unique capabilities as a coach, a team that again, has responded to him. They are just getting use to this offensive/defensive system and you are thinking about them having to learn a new one before the playoffs are even over?

I dunno, it may seem cool to u but it rubs me wrong kinda like our weird uncle mommy told us to never play with.

Adelman is a good coach, but so is D'Antoni

The Rockets arguably underachieved under Adelman when everyone was healthy. The Knicks didn’t necessarily underachieve this season because it was tumultuous from the start (chemistry issues, trade rumors, more chemistry issues)

I suppose if you're talking about in past years, with Yao and T-Mac, they maybe underachieved

T-Mac played on terrible Magic teams

that were stuck paying max dollars so Grant Hill could wear a suit.

thing is this is the type of Knick games I grew up on . to bad we only get to see it when a team

like Boston makes use. Team is in need of a new attitude and although the young fan base has grown accustomed to the run and gun. I think most Knick fans would quickly trade that for the Hustle and the hard nosed D that i miss so dearly .
sometimes change is good and i think this could be one of them times.

this was a playoff game with a severely talent barren roster

the fact the Knicks didn’t get blown out 2 games in a row, Pringles deserves a ton of credit.

Not to mention all the roster gutting that’s gone on these 3 years, not one single coach would win here. None. Zero. Not the way this roster was gutted.

Next season is basically D’Antoni’s first season in NY, should they get a team out there. Every year its “wait 2 years”, then its “we got Amar’e”, then trade everyfuckingbody for Carmelo at the deadline.

You can’t win with this. Phil, Auerbech, Lionel Hollins, Jeff Van Gundy (who would’ve left the day Donnie got hired with that “lets wait 2 years” idea).

No one. Sorry. I know the ideal is to place blame, but blame your diapers for not holding your bullshit in.

by GAx on Apr 20, 2011 1:52 AM EDT up reply actions

To be honest i have no suggestions.

And my distaste for him has nothing to do with his ability to coach. Hes a great novelty act. I also cant say another coach could have done any better. But i do know his style isn’t and has never won a title for any team in the past. Im not that old but I am old school with respect to the game.

If (and im hoping Donnie boy sticks around) he will move on to another coach .

by Troy O on Apr 20, 2011 2:07 AM EDT up reply actions

I just don't know how anyone thinks that he should be winning more here

our roster is extremely flawed. This past offseason was the first time we tried to improved the team instead of dismantle it. Then we dismantled it again.

No coach can win with that. None. Everyone should kiss Pringles’ ass for sticking around with this bullshit.

I go 30 yrs deep with this team .. So that's a whole lot of flavors...... Pat Riley, Red Holzman, Van gundy....

Those guys got every once every day from every player..

Denver had the best record in the game post trade. Knicks 14-14 . So sad that you younger fans are so use to losing that a 500 record makes your cocks grow.

Yay for the absolute ineptitude of the east to allow a 42 -40 team look like a success. Oh lets not forget this jem Indiana 37 -45. With only 5 other teams in the east with records over 500 it would have been pretty sad for us not to be . Especially with the talent we posses…

there's many more players conveniently left out

who I’d take over who’s ever on the Knicks right now. Basically those entire teams. Aside from Carmelo and Amar’e, these Knicks aren’t even anywhere close to any of those teams.

Not close.

I could challenge you to name the name of the "players i conveniently left out"..

Because i promise you no matter how you add it up, none of them teams had more" talent" then STAT, CB and Melo.

But ill take one off the top of my head .. The so called supporting cast in 88 was Johnny Newman (career 11 pt avg), Gerald Wilkins who avg. 14 and 13 for career. or MR suck him self Kenny Walker . Oh and MR. washed up Kiki Vandeweghe and his 9 pts.

but we could go back and forth for ever (and usually do with you). so lets let the cards fall where they may..

I go back to before Red was coach so what the hell are you talking about. Like I said they guy has has more success this year than any other Knick coach has had in 10. You don’t fire a guy for that! it is fans like you that are the reason that the dipshit we have for an owner really believes he can bring Isiah back and we would be all good with it. Because backstabbing MFer’s flock together. The irony is that Adelman and D’Antoni are best friends and have been since they were roomates when they played in Kansas City together. by Troy O on Apr 20, 2011 8:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Lakers Spurs and Celtics had great "systems"

The Tim Duncan System, the Kobe/Shaq or Gasol System, and the KG/Pierce/Allen System. I see this all the time, people bringing up Pop, Phil, and Doc to belittle D’Antoni. I assure you, if they had the rosters D’Antoni has had throughout his career, they would have a total of ZERO championships—regardless of “system.” Why not mention the hundreds of “defense-first” coaches who are recycled throughout the league winning nothing but the hatred of their own players?

And if the system was everything, why did Doc win about 20 games with Pierce? Why did Pop change to a more uptempo style (god forbid, D’Antoni-like style) this year when faced with an aging team?

Great teams have great individual defenders at key positions. Duncan clogged the middle for years while Bowen occupied the other team’s perimeter star. Now Bynum clogs the middle for the Lakers, and Kobe and Artest rotate on the other team’s star.

Mike has Jared Jeffries to clog the middle. Yes, Jared Jeffries. When he’s not using Jared Jeffries to defend the other team’s perimeter star!

I have no issue with questioning D'Antoni's ability to win a title

Just as long as you keep it in perspective.

How many defensive minded coaches have a ring?

The coaches who can play defense AND offense are the ones who win rings. And as has been pointed out in a similar thread… of the current NBA coaches… only Rivers, Jackson & Popovich have titles to their names. Larry Brown is another but we have seen how his coaching has gone the last few years…

At least with D’Antoni he may not have a title, but he has been to the Western Conference Finals and was a historically bad call away from gettign the NBA Finals.
Like him or not, there are few other coaches who can boast they got as deep into the playoffs as he.

Did you watch last years game 7 that was not great defense it was piss poor offense down the stretch

Kobe missed 5 layups in that game! Layups, Lamar Odom missed an uncontested dunk, and the Celtics scored one fg in the last 6:47 of the game. Not because of shut down D by the lakers, Ray Allen missed 4 wide open jump shots, Rasheed Wallace missed two, KG missed 3 attempts from point blank range and Rondo missed two layups! I know great defense and great defense is not guys missing layups, wide open jumpshots and jump hooks from inside 3 ft! That’s bad offense! A low scoring game is not always great defense sometimes players even Future hall of famers stink up the damn joint on offense. The Lakers won the game because they had the one guy on either team who was able to hit some shots down the stretch, RON ARTEST!

Portland is absolutely a team in DESPERATE need of a center!!!

Going into this season they looked strong with Aldridge at PF, Batum growing at SF, Oden and Camby at C with Joel Pryzbilla rehabbing from tearing up his knee TWICE. the oden goes down for the year, Camby shows his age with multiple injuries, and they trade Pryz without getting a center in return!!

Dante Cunningham is their back-up Center ahead of Earl Barron (who they signed near the end of the season).

Alridge has played fantastic this season but he is out of position at Center. Portand is heavily undermanned at center.

23-59 in 2008-2009. A grand total of THREE wins better than the year before.

Stop acting like Melo and Amar’e have played together for years. This is the NBA. Best basketball players on the planet. Ask Popovich and Jackson if teamwork matters or not.

NO NBA team with 2 stars just runs the table from the get-go because there are too many other teams with at least 1 star and teammates who know how to play together.

Hey, remember that fearsome Laker’s team a few years back? Shaq, Kobe, Karl Malone and Gary Payton?

Hey, how about this? THIS year the Miami Heat have THREE stars and they didn;t even win 60 games. OMG!!!!!!!!!!

Dude keep it 100, I don’t even like D’antoni. I thought we needed a more defensive minded coach and already had my mind made up he wasn’t it. I wanted the nostalgia of Mark Jackson…yeh I sed it! That would hav been a mistake. Dantoni didn’t do much to endear me either after one of his first games he dared to fire obscenities at a few guys chanting for Marbury but as a fan of the game it’s ridiculous for me (or anyone else IMO) to blame him when the team has made significant progress. As a matter of fact speaking of blame, wtf is he even being blamed for???! Getting us to the playoffs? Getting a group of role players to respond and probably overachieve? I don’t get it.

It’s easy to say we don’t play tough enough defense when we don’t have defensive personnel. We still don’t have a center worthy of playing 40 mins nite in-nite out, we still have trouble at shooting guard, we still are shaky at point…..yet we can still bang for 48mins with the defending Eastern Conference CHAMPIONS using our B squad and coming up short by only a point.

Not sure why you don’t feel the same it’s okay tho.

Points well made.

but some coach’s do have a exceptional knack for being able coach high-end talent. i.e Joe Torrie ,Pat Riley and so on .. I also am not sure if that guy will be available .. So we will see.

I may not be the most noble of men but in a town of lepers, im the one with the most fingers.
