After we beat the Celtics, how do we make this a REAL finals team next year?

I have to say despite the fact that we're two down thanks to shoddy officiating, late game nerves, unfortunate injuries, and typical leprechaun lucky charms....I'm very impressed that we've only lost these two road games by a total of 5 pts.

Moreso, I'm impressed by the ability of Stoudemire and Melo to completely take over playoff games. 28 and 11 for STAT in game 1 and 42 and 17!! for Melo in g2. Think if we can consistently get these two to feed off each other night to night. ...wow b/c these guys are legit Top TEN all NBA players. but that's another story...

Star-divide

The story that I'm interested in is how to get quality players around these guys next yr to make THE RUN. Put some quality parts around these guys and we are looking at a championship team. ....But when Jared Jeffries is our 2nd offensive option in a late game situation even w/o STAT, there is a problem.

Now you can say Chauncey wasn't there either...but will he ever be there? Age is catching up to him, he's been constantly injured ever since he got here, has looked painfully slow, and until TD's horrible matador defense against the little alien nobody has looked worse defensively for our team.

Along with his dropping field and 3pt shooting %'s and that HUGE $14 million option...I'm not too high on devoting the cash to keep him here.

You see, even despite TD's torching I appreciated the speed with which he ran the offense and the free flowing nature we played with. I think it's best for us to cut mister big shot lose and take that freed up cash to invest this offseason.

I think first and foremost, we need a center. I'd prefer a Tyson Chandler or Marc Gasol first w/ most of our cap going to them. I don't know if we can pry them from there current teams and I'm not overly optimistic about our chances. And as much as I love Chris Paul waiting another year, so we can put the last bits of our cap to get another star player who would create more late game "who shoots the ball" drama among our other 2 offensive studs while still being small down low is not a route I think we should go.

But if not if we can sign a Deandre Jordan, and hear me out on this one: the possibility of resigning Wilson Chandler to take over or share SG duties with Fields( he's been riding the pine behind Gallo at Denver and his value has dropped as his stats and mins have dropped while being there).

He's always been a favorite player of mine b/c of his versatility, low-key personality, the fact that he we both share the same faded hairstyle haha, and his new badass Adidas kicks.

Idk if Denver plans on releasing MOSGOD since they have barely played him @ all. But if they do I wouldn't mind re-upping him on the cheap.(if not maybe Dalembert as a backup C., we need to take the pounding of our $100 Milli man, have the D guard somebody else down low)

And lastly, signing a complimentary pg to share duties w/ TD like Goran Dragic who I think would fit amazingly in Pringles system, maybe a TJ Ford, and maybe an Andre Miller to mentor the young bucks and fill a role as a poor man's Billups.( I really am regretting the Billups/Felton part of this deal)

Keep Jeffries, Turiaf as the intangible hustle players. Easy E and SkyWalker for the 3's and see what other improvements Donnie Basketball can make.

That's my two cents... and Let's have some of our own Garden magic Friday!

I like this plan

but I have a feeling we wont spend that much money and we will hold out for CP3 although the other possibility that crossed my mind would be that we could spend the money on assets and trade them to New Orleans for CP3 kind of like what we did this year to get melo but guys may be wary of this and not sign here.

I know absolutely nothing about this guy but if he is fast I say sign him up.
That's what She-Will Said.

yea Dolan is a complete duche, and loves to piss us off. make bone-headed moves, and just generaly suck at NBA knowledge and what not.
but atleast he’s always been there to support us. he always puts out money if its gonna (or if he thinks its gonna) make the team better. and atleast we have the monetary support

With CP3 we’ll have no leverage, even if we do have leverage, cuz we won’t use it and isn’t dumb enough to just hand him over.

Leverage is irrelevent

Are there any assets on the Knicks Roster not named Melo and Amar’e you wouldn’t give up in any combination for CP3? Let’s say they wanted Fields, TD, Billups (for money matching)…Shawne Williams…Turiaf…and, I don’t know, a late round first we buy from LA. I’d give that up in a heartbeat.

what is this price???if you mean a team w/ no bench, size, damaged Amare knees, and defense ...then NO

We dont need offense. If you can pull off a miracle in which get Dwight for peanuts and a happy meal sure. But that’s not going to happen, it’s a nice 2k11 dream but with the new cap…that is all it is a dream. We have two superstars, we dont need a third to win a title. A solid nucleus around us like what is in place in Chicago, Indiana, and Memphis is all we need to win a ship.

We cant afford them as free agents and we can’t trade for them based on value either.

and a Paul/Okafor package coming to the Knicks is certainly intriguing and makes sense for both teams. Would that be enough to get us all the way over the top? I don’t know but it sure sounds like a pretty good team nucleus with three legit superstars plus a better than average center.

After we beat the Celtics, how do we make this a REAL finals team next year?

easy 10 step process
Step 1: Beat the heat in round 2
Step 2: beat the magic or the bulls in conf. Finals
Step 3: beat whoever the fuck is man enough to take us on in the finals
step 4: Mark Gasol
Step 5: we shoulda signed iverson last year when he was healthy. but step 5, Draft Jimmer
Step 6: Get Either CP3 or DW12 via trade
Step 7: Keep DWTDD and Shawn3 At all cost through next year
Step 8: Give Landry More Minutes
Step 9: Give Rautins play or put him in the D-League
Step 10: get a bench, i know we will have a new bench withe renovations to the garden. but i would like a bench with seat warmers (not AR or Eddy Curry) so we can play our 10th and 12th men once in a while

who on our team would the Hornets and Magic want in return?

We have nothing..no assets at all that they would want. Howard is the second best player in the league and CP3 is arguably the Best pure PG.

They don’t want our bench lol. Esp with the Lakers, Clips, and Nets still out there as destinations.

Plus if we signed either, both Melo and STAT would have to significantly restructure their contracts and even then to sign CP3 we would have to max at our cap and have literally no ability to sign even d leaguers. It’s just not possible

but he cant play ina better situation than in ny, melo and dwight is lakers 2000 all over again, its amf dynasty, howard knows that.

Melo and dwight are very good friends, no fighting like in kobe shaq situation.
I never thought about dwight, but than is started to look around the league and how ny treated melo and all, and i tought where he would rather go, nets, lakers? Hell no, melo and dwight is a mf dynasty, perfect combination, best scorer (and willing passer) and most dominant center (defensive one man army), this has to happen.

by BubbaChuck on Apr 22, 2011 1:59 AM EDT up reply actions

regarding pay cut, i think this is gonna be anon-issue, cause commercial ourtunities in ny are gonna sky rock.

Just look at melo and how his popularity has soared, he is gonna make alot more money in ny than in denver, alot more. And fiancial advisers will tell that to dwight first thing, why bother with pay cut if you can make all that and even more with commerciall deals, shoe sales and all and knicks are becoming very popular in europe, everybody is talking about melo.

by BubbaChuck on Apr 22, 2011 2:19 AM EDT up reply actions

interesting..

b/c we havent won anything in 30 years…so if its wining and money then LA sounds like a great idea for a wanna-be actor like Dwight and if it’s winning then playing w/ a top3 pg in DWill and playing for a owner w/ a lot of money and a new arena in BK also sounds pretty tempting esp since he wont be taking paycuts in both situations…but what do i know…..listen i’m not gonna try and dash your dream perfect scenario of having an all star team playing for the knicks (i wouldnt mind it)….i just dont think it’s anywhere near possible/ 2k11 fairytale like…..and we’ll just have to agree to disagree

by monstersjuice on Apr 22, 2011 2:44 AM EDT up reply actions

if there's anything we learned from the carmelo drama this year..

it’s that players as much as they want to win….want money that’s equal to their value as much as well.

These are not old past their prime superstars like Payton and Malone joining the Lakes

They’re not coming here so they can get paid half of what STAT n Melo are making.

CP3 and Dwight are more likely to join the Lakes who still have Kobe and Gasol or the Nets who have Deron and whatever improvements they make this offseason for their full market value then come to us for half.

It’s even more likely to see CP join Dwight in Orlando.

Everything that any team does....

is all going to come down to the new CBA and the lockout. With two guys in Melo and Amare that make as much as they do it’ll be hard for you guys to get another max contract guy. And you used all of your good assets in the Melo deal so you don’t have anyone left to throw at Orlando or New Orleans. Only a few teams will have enough cap space to go after Howard in 2012 when he can use his early termination option.

by sexyscottish on Apr 21, 2011 4:45 PM EDT reply actions

We will all have to see

No one one knows what will happen with the CBA but one thing is for sure this season the NBA is up in all categories and interest in the future should only increase therefore the major decline of the cap may not factor into plans when the league is going to encourage Paul and Howard to move to large market teams in LA and NY.

The power of the NBA lies with the money teams. LA, Bos, Chi, MIA, NY, NJ, and the Mavs will all side with Stern publicly but behind closed doors these owners will not allow the cap to be lowered and their ability to attract free agents hindered.

Stat and Melo’s contract does not hinder the knicks currently, from adding a possible max player in 2012. No one knows if the CBA will change that or not.

How about drafting?

Not a very talented draft, and we don’t have a very low number, but someone’s going to get a sleeper. Maybe it’ll be us! I want to see us draft either:

Chris Singleton: 6’9" SF/PF, decent athlete, long, mobile, good shooter, not a great ball handler, and a very very good defender. I see him as someone who can come in for Melo or for Amar’e when either of them needs a break, and can guard the other team’s best player for stretches without giving a horrible amount on the offensive end.
Similar to Luc Richard Mbah a Moute

or

Kenneth Faried: 6’8" PF, amazing athlete, not terribly strong or long, but knows how to use his body very well, has dreads that rival Renaldo’s, fights for every single rebound, can block shots and anticipate passes to get steals, will strip the ball if you look away. Doesn’t have much offensive skills, but always cuts, can finish layups and dunks pretty well (which we all know can’t be taken for granted), plays his heart out. Guy you can’t help but root for on any possession, can also come in for Amar’e or even Melo in some situations, fills some of the rebounding and interior defensive roles we lack (though one thing we don’t need is more undersized players).
Similar to Lou Amundson/Carl Landry/Renaldo Balkman.

I don't think NO is going to trade Paul to us.

A lot of teams would be interested in trading for Chris Paul and have more to offer. Had we been able to keep Gallo in the Denver trade, I think Gallo, Billups, and Landry or TD plus fillers might’ve at least gotten their attention, but what’s done is done. I hope we just forget about CP3/Dwight and sign a center this offseason/try to get another PG some other way.

by tkow on Apr 22, 2011 1:42 AM EDT up reply actions

What makes this trade plausible is taking Okafor

and his giant contract off of NO hands. Trading Okafor for say Billups and his expiring contract saves NO something like $35 million which is not chump change to a small market team.

The Landryman can

by YuckFou on Apr 22, 2011 1:53 AM EDT up reply actions

Well of course that's a factor.

But it’s not like the Knicks are the only team with the flexibility to take on Okafor. If we happen to be the team that offers the best combination of players to trade and cap flexibility, great. But I just don’t think it’s plausible; the only way it works is if CP3 makes it known that it’s NY or bust and there’s no way to know that he would do that or if he even WANTS to play here. I mean, he has to have an ego just like every other star. It’s possible he becomes the third option if he comes here. And if he’s not the third option, who is? Amar’e? That works fairly well in Miami because Bosh isn’t the kind of player that can carry a team, but Amar’e is. He doesn’t seem to have much of an issue as the second option, and he shouldn’t, but third? Issues could arise. I say we stick with our guns and build other ways at this point.

agree

Deandre Jordan, Brandon Jennings(next year), and maybe bringing back Wilson Chandler to add to the supporters of Jeffries, Turiaf, Shawne, and Billy doesn’t sound too bad to me

by monstersjuice on Apr 22, 2011 8:31 PM EDT up reply actions

the thing is. It's impossible for CP3 to become thee 3rd option.

he will be the vocale point of our offense.
remember scoring isn’t everything

That's my point dude.

Amar’e would be the third option, and I don’t think that would sit too well with him. He is too good, and has too big an ego, to sit back and get the type of touches that a third option does. Remember the issue the Heat had with Bosh a few months ago where he was playing like shit because he never got touches? The issue was, according to him, that he was a jump shooter playing a post position. Amar’e has the same problem. If he doesn’t develop a post game, he’ll be completely phased out of the offense if Paul arrives. This would be planned, but just a side effect of having two players that are better than him who do similar things well. You’ve seen how much less often Amar’e gets the ball with Billups running the point, and he’s A LOT worse than Chris Paul at this point in his career. It would be a disaster; unless, like I suggested, Amar’e develops a post game.

Either way, I don’t think CP3 is in the cards for the Knicks. We can be a great team without him.

by tkow on Apr 23, 2011 6:14 PM EDT up reply actions

Amar’e would be the third option, and I don’t think that would sit too well with him

i don’t think you are getting it.
CP3 would not take points or touches from amar’e. infact he will probably add 2 or 3 ppg to his stats.
CP3 is not focussed on scoring. he’s a pass first PG.
so saying that amar’e would be a 3rd option is wrong.
CP3 makes the players arounf hom better.
he’s not a scorer. but if we needed him to be at some point in the game, he could.
Cp3 would take less touches and points away from STAT then anyone we have.

You’ve seen how much less often Amar’e gets the ball with Billups running the point, and he’s A LOT worse than Chris Paul at this point in his career.

Your looking it as who is a better player. and the reason amar’e gets less touches now with billups (or even felton) is because they chuck up balls all the time and worry about passing second. chris paul is a pass first player

Either way, I don’t think CP3 is in the cards for the Knicks. We can be a great team without him.

the thing is, your right. we CAN be a great team without him. but we need a point guard. and DWTDD is more off a shooting guard. so we can be a great team without him. but we can be a better team with him

Not getting it and disagreeing are two different things.

You can tell me that you think I’m wrong, but I’d prefer you not tell me I don’t understand you. I know that CP3 is a different player than Billups. However, I maintain that if Amar’e doesn’t develop a post game, his usage rate will be pretty low even though Paul is a “pass-first PG.” Even if Paul doesn’t look to score every possession, it doesn’t change the fact that he can score and score well. Just because someone doesn’t look to score doesn’t mean they’re not a good scoring option. Simply by way of the fact that he has the ball on every possession and is an excellent scorer, as well as having a better player to pass to on the perimeter than Amar’e, STAT would fall below CP3 on the scoring depth chart in my opinion.

by tkow on Apr 23, 2011 7:55 PM EDT up reply actions

i don't mean to offend you. but you are not getting what i'm saying

yes CP3 has the ability to score, yes STAT needs to evolve his game.
but stat’s ppg aren’t going to fall in fact they are most likely to rise.
what your saying deffinitley makes sense. but i do not think you are right.
And it isn’t impossible to have 3 20 ppg scoreres

this cap will come down HARD

..so unless you’re gonna pull up some projected contract #s for CP3 and Dwight, i’d love to know how BOTH are possible w/o going the Heat route of signing flunkies

by monstersjuice on Apr 22, 2011 2:47 AM EDT up reply actions

CB expiring contract is 14 mil a year.

i doubt that those would mine taking a cut with the endorsments they’ll get, escpecially howard who said he’d take a cut.
so. Cp3 gets 8 mil a year. and Superman gets 6.
DW12 gets 6, because he is gonna get the most endorsments outa anyone.
when STAT and Melo’s contracts expire. all 4 get the same figures. them getting about 8-10 mil each a year
And same goes for DWTDD, Galo, And Landry (them getting about 1 mil a year each.

Galo, Landry??

you expect them to still be here…you expect everyone on the team to take a paycut??
you think role players care more about winning then being financially stable??

AMARE gets paid 20 mill a yr, you think he’s going to cut down to less than half.
You think Amare, Melo, and CPHoward will be comfortable making less than what Andre Miller is making this year!!!!

You think star players don’t have BIG F’N EGO’s and that they’ll be happy with getting paid the least out of the three stars or one of the others getting paid the most.

You think ugly ass sneakers(nobody buys even Jordan brand sneakers religiously anymore) and posters will account for their lost cash. You think they work their whole life to be the best players in the world only so they could get paid equal to the amount of role players.

Unless we win multiple championships, and find a way to market all three together then there is no way that sponsorships will be able to recoup the money lost for each of them individually. One or even two of them will end up faring much worse off.

Don’t even count the jealousy that will build between these guys of playing in each others shadow in their primes (Pippen-Jordan, Kobe-Shaq).
Now multiply that by 3.

I love Disneyland too but this is a dream.

I don't get why its necessary

to acquire more star players in order to win a championship. Would winning a championship even be enjoyable when you gut your entire roster until you don’t have anybody on the team left you recognize besides Amar’e and Melo? I kinda want to see the whole team win including Landry and TD. Also I think it sucks for players to play on a team that only wants to see them play well so they will be better trade bait. I grew up watching Ewing, Starks and Oakley so maybe I am a little old school but I think players play better when they feel their future is secure and their team and the fanbase wants them around.

at this point, what's the difference?

they already did that anyway, and there’s really nothing to say that if given the chance they won’t do that again.

All in all, don’t get used to Toney Douglas and Landry Fields as NYKs.

Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
