onward and upward... let the offseason bickering begin!
yeah, the playoffs tasted good, though a little bittersweet for my taste.
all in all, we had good times... we had bad times. we bickered like sorority girls... and we chest bumped (albeit textually) like frat boys.
and now here we are, collectively holding our own genitalia in one hand (or 2 for some of us) ... with another off season of speculation, high hopes, and prayers coming at us like an orange and blue locomotive.
so what do we want 1-12?
me? i want to dump the 8 who are expiring... and build around the 4 who we're stuck with. below is an example. free agents i like who we might be able to squeeze in depending on the cap and the lone draft pick.
for you capologists... share your knowledge if you think guys will cost too much to fit. i tried to keep it relatively realistic, though i know none of us know how much money we'll have to spend.
1- jj barrea, TD, (a d-leaguer , rookie free agent or anthony carter)
2- shannon brown, landry
3- melo, thaddeus young (or sonny weems if we need to go cheaper)
4- amare, earl clark, joey dorsey
5- deandre jordan (or tyson as my 2nd choice), jordan williams (BIG center as our draft pick, or bismack biyombo or markeiff morris if available)
personally, i'm not a "get a 3rd star" guy... though i know many of you are. i'd rather go depth and build a team with youth, length... and some girth.
what say you?

I agree with some of this
But I don’t think JJ Barea is a starting point guard. He is a true point guard, unlike TD, but not a starter.
I think we should trade Chauncey and filler for Nash. Sign Jordan, Tayshaun Prince, JJ Barea, and draft a big.
PG: Nash, Barea
SG: TD, Landry
SF: Melo, Prince, Walker
PF: Stat, Shawne
C: Jordan, Turiaf, Draft Pick
I think that lineup could take Boston. Miami too. Still a year away from competing from a championship, but that lineup would have depth, interior defense, more shooters, and length.
Nash is expiring, so we still have flexibility
GO CUSE, BLUE, AND EAGLES!
Wont have nearly enough money to pay that group
I think that a PG is bigger priority over a Center, but the problem is that are very few available, and while there are plenty in the draft, none of them is good enough to start immediately in the NBA.
prince...
would be a very intriguing addition, maybe even as our starting 2, which would create a lot of mismatches and put some real D (and experience) on the floor.
not a nash fan, and i agree TD isn’t a PG. i just think we’re going to have to sacrifice somewhere and the pickin’s are so slim a PG. we just can’t afford not to spend on bigs… amare can’t survive a season without some size by his side.

I think if Phoenix decides to trade Steve Nash, it would be to get younger at PG
Getting Chauncey Billups doesn’t change their situation. Just swaps a great veteran player in the twilight of his career for another great veteran in the twilight of his career.

Actually they might move Nash for Cash
Billups and Nash’s contracts nearly match

why would nash want a declining billups

phoenix would laugh at that offer, their star player for that

They're not gonna make the playoffs next year though
Could do right by Nash in the last year of his deal by sending him to his favorite coach and big man, and the city where he lives during the offseason. Not like he and Brooks are gonna mesh in the backcourt.
Also, maybe give them some financial relief by taking back either Frye or Gortat for Turiaf’s expiring. I’d even consider tossing Fields into a deal that brought back Gortat
nobodys gettin gortat
without giving up a whole lot. Thats a top 5 center in the lig right now.

Well yeah, but doesn't Nash's contract expire after next season?
The only way it works for Phoenix is if they get Billups and then decide to buy him out for $3.7Mil. But then Phoenix is down to just Aaron Brooks to run PG and I don’t think that is what they necessarily want.
I do agree that Phoenix is always trying to save money though.

Yeah fuck aiming for a 3rd star
If another elite player falls into our lap, then obviously go for it. But the plan now should be to bring in the right guys to play with Melo and Amare. Offseason goals should be some kind of long term answer at the point and two competent big men.
I wouldn’t get rid of the rest of the team though. And unless he’s bought out, we’re also locked into Balkman for 2 more years. Turiaf is gonna pick up his player option, Billups for another year seems probable even if it’s only to use his contract as a trade chip.
I’d also bring back Bully, Extra E, and AC. Those guys are fine as bench players and the two younger guys can still improve, as they just got their first steady NBA minutes this year.
if we end up with...
that many of the same players… i’ll be very tempted to consider picking up curling.

There'll be trades or buy outs
The only guys I personally want to see here next year are Melo, Amare, TD, Landry, then Sha Williams, Bully, AC, Rautins as the 10th-13th guys. If they can’t turn his contract into a long term solution at the point, Billups too.
That’d be 9 guys, so space for 6 new players, and a successful offseason probably means the roster’s added 3 players better than Extra E, Bully, AC, Rautins. Just seems like more than that and you’re gonna have chemistry problems to start a year where you want to win games from day 1. Even 6 new guys, 3 new rotation players would be a lot to incorporate.
interested to see...
what trades walsh can cook up. only real bait we have is chauncey if we sign him, and landry. unless of course he’s willing to part with amare (for dwight)… which might be nice. we just don’t have any real assets anymore. which is why i’m thinking our fortification comes more through free agency and crafty drafting.
don’t mind Extra E coming back for his specialty, but any remnants from this year just don’t excite me.

yeaaaahhhh

count me in...
though it seems our management got an itch they had to scratch. paul and okafor would be something to behold in our colors… shame all our assets have been donated to the nuggs.

keep beating that drum
maybe Donnie will get drunk enough to offer something for that
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
I'd be down with this starting 5
Can’t imagine what our bench looks like (it definitely won’t be very deep at all) or if the wallet will even allow us to afford it… but shit, if it works, it would very solid.
Well.. actually… I think JR Smith wouldn’t go so well. But other than that, sure!

i dont know
trade billups for felton and mozgov, then sign chandler?
felton
chandler
melo
stat
mozgov
td
fields
+ bunch of scrubs
can we do this?
no and we really don't want to
No longer on the fence about Carmelo's awesome game face
if the Nuggets did this
it would essentialy make the trade Gallo/pick for Melo/Balkman/Carter

and gallo's on his way back next year anyway...

LOL! Don't worry jason doubt Gallo would come back here even if you and Dizzy
offered to blow him. NAw I think he is going to Chicago. The Bulls were his favorite NBA team as a kid, and he likes shooting in that building, plus he would have a role there. He would come back here to play 10 mins a night behind Melo.
by Robert Curre on Apr 25, 2011 1:03 PM EDT up reply actions
Well
In fairness, I wouldn’t come back if Jason and Dizzy offered to blow me, either
GO CUSE, BLUE, AND EAGLES!
is that your fantasy?
please keep it to yourself….
10 min a night? lol
he’d be the sixth man.
memeber chandler was the sixth man and played the same position as gallo and melo. and got his fair share of minutes.
Gallo get atleast 20-25 min. if not more

Okay I will play along
Billups, TD, Carter, Rautins
Michael Redd, Landry
Melo, Vince Carter
Amare, Jeffries, D. Brown
K. Brown, N Muhammad, Turiaf
+ our Number one pick
Redd, Carter, Kwame Brown can be signed for a split of the MLE and the full LLE, Nazr can be signed with a roster exception.
there's a whole lotta tread on those tires...
redd? carter? billups? carter? nazr?
not sure if that’s the direction to go, especially if MDA is still at the helm.
though i’d take kwame and/or nazr as backup bigs… and if i had to go older, i do like the tayshawn suggestion, at least he plays defense.
by bucketsncents on Apr 25, 2011 2:03 PM EDT up reply actions
It is exactly the direction to go. Pringles loves all of those guys
trusts them and would play them.
by Robert Curre on Apr 25, 2011 5:28 PM EDT up reply actions
how can anyone trust...
the bum knee of redd, the empty and inconsistent points of an indifferent carter and the slowing down chauncey. true, they’re seasoned veterans, but at this point, they’re more likely just overcooked. within a year, we’d have gone from young, athletic, versatile and promising… to old, stationary and filled with one year rentals. redd and carter were scorers and shooters in their heyday… but we don’t need old scorers/shooters.

Averaged 12 pts, 9 rebs, and shot 56% when starting for Charlotte this year
He is also 7ft 270lbs. Basically if we had a dude that big giving us 12 and 9 we would be sucking his dick. The sad fact is Kwame is an upgrade over everything we have passing for a center now.
haha I know I wasn't disagreeing with you
It just reminded me of that youtube video
GO CUSE, BLUE, AND EAGLES!
(in my pacino impression from scarface) Fine, you wanna play games, alright. i play

PG-CP3 (shawn3’s new number will be 2)
SG-Lando
SF-Melo
PF-Amar’e
C-Superman
