Depth....
Well the season came to an end yesterday which is sad. I know we got the injury bug between stat and billups and yes melo did his part to fill in for the three but i think depth is what really killed us. And this comes from the trade which i wont get into. I think that next year and the following year should be about acquiring depth not a third superstar. I watched all four games and i was at yesterdays game and what made a big impression on me for the C's was when Garnett was in foul trouble or needed a blow, Big Baby came in and did a hell of a job. He was scoring diving for loose balls and more importantly beating up STAT (important for boston). He doesn't play huge starter minutes so he can afford to play aggressively and be all over the floor. Also delonte west i thought was impressive in limited min for rondo. He pressed toney or AC all the way up the court making them uncomfortable and dish off to non ball handlers more quickly. Yes Jarred Jeffries played his best ball all season these four games but just that statement alone throws red flags that we need help. I think we should try and clear roster spots (shelden williams, balkman, mason, jeffries) and bring specialists (3pt and def) and young guys in.
So ive been thinking for a while of what i would like to see the Knicks do and was wondering what long time knick fans think and not my idiot friends. I think its safe to say that Center PG Backup F is our team needs.
Billups is a tricky situation bc of contracts and what not so im not sure what we can do there but here we go
No real order
PG
Barea, Brooks, Bibby, Tj Ford - weak class/ maybe try for a trade
SG
Jamal Crawford (we tried this but who knows ) Jr smith, Shannon Brown, Sasha, Marcus Thorton
F's
Humphries, Carl Landry, Batier, Thaddeus Young, McRoberts, ILL WILL(we can all have hope) and Glenn Davis
C
Marc Gasol, Deandre Jordan (will be tough) Dalembert
Here are a couple guys who are hurt been hurt may always be hurt but would be real fun if we took a shot and it worked
Yao/Mike Redd/Oden
Im pretty sure there all FA or RFA but let me know if im wrong. What you guys think???
KNICKS!!!!!!!

Best name on the POST....
MArc Gasol….
Very Very Very slim chances we get him…
I’d even love to see the guy from Indiana…. Jeff Foster or the other white guy who plays the F/C. As the back-up that is…..
But we definitely need a talent comparable to Marc Gasol at the 5…… It’s completely obvious that with Melo on the court, Amare loves to play from the free throw line in instead of from the basket out. I have no problem with this sense he is 100% effective at it, BUT it does take away from the offensive boards.
And most importantly, JEFFRIES IS THE SOFTEST PLAYER EVER!!!!! We need some length at the 5 that can play some hard nose physical defense on the block!
If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere...It's up to you, New York, New York!!!!
had similar thoughts...
with joey dorsey, sonny weems, earl clark and nick young as possible fillers. not a huge gasol fan… would much rather deandre jordans athleticism. cap room will dictate the quality of our depth.
also curious about mcroberts… young with some upside.
Nick Young could be a terror in this system
But I’m not sure whether it’d be to opponents or to us. He can light up the scoreboard, but he might go pre-Hawks Crawford on us and just jack up shots…. But he could be a nasty 3rd or 4th option. Doubt he’s avaliable though
This is my point, we complain about D'Antoni and defense
and we want players who play absolutely zero defense. By the way he is available the Wizards don’t want him precisely because he does not play defense.

This is true
Plus it only hurts the cause if we have a PG who doesn’t play good defense. If we had a PG and Center to hold down on defense and communicate, then yeah we can afford guys who aren’t as competent on that end.
we also need to realize...
that when young guys are on bad teams, they develop bad habits to try to stay on the floor… like chucking. nick young, while he may have the propensity to chuck, is young, long, athletic, has a great shot, and if expected to play defense, can still develop the skill. older guys with track records of chucking are more set in their ways and feel entitled to play the way they always have.

samuel dalembert i think would be a perfect center
great rebounder/defender
seeing him defend amare when the kings came to msg really impressed me
not sure if he will be too cheap
but he will be easier to acquire than gasol chandler or jordan
at the sg jr smith or shannon brown both would be good to get
and if billups comes back and is healthy a pg may not be the biggest need this offseason
Kwame Brown and Nazr Mohommed
Big Bodies willing to work for basically sneakers and per diem! And believe it or not both would be an upgrade over what we are running out on the floor at center
by Robert Curre on Apr 25, 2011 5:39 PM EDT up reply actions
Unfortunately, yes they would be upgrades.
But we can do better.
Renounce Chauncey and throw however much money it takes at either M. Gasol, T. Chandler, or D. Jordan.
SPEND ON BIGS

i disagree with throw however much money it takes at any of those 3
without billups i believe the hole at pg is bigger than that at center and neither are necesarilly worth the contracts they may get due 2 the weak free agent class/draft class
if anything id rather keep billups and use his expiring contract at the trade deadline or to free up cap space for 2012
of course this is all dependent on how the new cba looks
not sure if this works
but since chauncey wants to be closer to home could we trade him to a team out west i know denver has ty lawson and ray ray but could a young team be willing to part w a pick for a vet idk.
would anyone do a sign and trade...
with the clippers? say chauncey, TD, shawne and landry for mo williams and deandre jordan?
who wants to crunch the numbers and contracts?
by bucketsncents on Apr 25, 2011 6:09 PM EDT up reply actions
I like it
But we would then have pretty much no backup PG, unless we draft one. And then we’re looking at Bully and Mason Jr. playing 2-guard.
I do like a center rotation of DJ, Turiaf and maybe Jerome Jordan since Turiaf is always in and out of the lineup
we don't really have a backup PG now...
and with this trade, we’d draft a backup PG (nolan smith) and maybe have enough money to throw at sonny weems, cj miles or maybe even tayshawn prince to play a long, defensive 2.
but prolly not.
by bucketsncents on Apr 26, 2011 1:31 PM EDT up reply actions
Ah shit I forgot about CJ!
I actually really like CJ Miles’ game. Competent defender, great slasher, decent 3pt shooter. I could see Utah hanging on him to him though. He and Landry would make a nice combo at the 2 with either of them subbing for Carmelo at the 3
i like the idea of that and i was thinking clippers
but even though landry struggled the last part of the year would that be another blow getting rid of young talent. I also really like eric gordon and wish we could have drafted him. Jordon and Gordon for td landry billups and bully, some form like that or is that a complete pipe dream(im thinking the later)
i'm thinking the clips...
are looking to build around bledsoe, gordon and the blake… hopefully they think they can’t afford to keep jordan and want landry to be their 3 and chauncey to tutor bledsoe. mo williams and jordan would give us a killer starting 5.
by bucketsncents on Apr 25, 2011 6:46 PM EDT up reply actions
The Clips are under the cap
and if they can move Kamen’s expiring contract say on draft day, they will have plenty of money to re-sign Jordan and be in the Market for some other pieces. Maybe Wilson goes here.
by Robert Curre on Apr 26, 2011 2:28 PM EDT up reply actions
If we had drafted Eric Gordon he would be in Denver now!
and yes that trade is a pipe dream, they are not trading Jordan or Gordon. You want a big boy from the Clips you can have Kamen.

if we go big and white...
i’d rather gortat.

so would a lot of teams

and it's not that i want to get rid of landry...
he’s the landriest.
If we're not trying to hang our anuses out to dry for another year waiting for Dwight or CP3
to plug that hole, I’d say Thornton, Young Thaddeus and/or Marc Gasol would be a sweet offseason. One of these blokes would be nice tho
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
Thornton can fucking score the ball
His defense is suspect though. Young would be a nice backup 3/4
thadeus would be an outstanding 6th man...
can come in at the 3 or the 4 with both defense and offense.
Some intriguing ideas, though I have to go Manute Bol on one of the suggestions
JR Smith…. Hell N!!!
Trust me, after watching his sad act for several years in Denver, a legit team looking to improve towards title contention wants no part of him
I thought early on Gasol was a keeper and someone you really want on your team; but now Gasol & Jordan are NWIH (no way in hell); especially with both being Restricted.
I think Big Baby has grown up and is legit… I’d go after him; especially with him averaging 29min/gm this year. Problem is who else will be chasing him.
I like Landry too as some muscle off of the bench.

i'd much prefer shannon brown...
or sonny weems as our young, athletic 2 guards… with landry coming off the bench

Low dollar trade options will also be out on the market too
NY can get inexpensive defensive specialists slash resident troublemakers like Dahntay Jones for not a lot of money
The Nuggets never regained their defensive intensity once they let Dahntay’s Inferno sign with the Pacers.

Mickael Pietrus
kills two birds w one stone. solid in 3pt and d…
Probably cheap too
Pretty iffy performance the last two seasons or so…. Then again, that should raise some flags
birng in veterans swing man..
may be grant hill michael redd,
for point guard pick up chauncey at lower price but i bet he will go back to denver, at center/pf to provide depth when amare is not on the floor ala boris diaw type, i like hansbrough is he a free agent? gasol but its too much to ask a scoring pf/C is a must at 4/5 position
just added darell arthur to my christmas list...
maybe memphis signs gasol and has no money left for arthur in 2012, so they try to trade him. he’d be a perfect depth player behind amare.
a lot of talk
is about waiting for 2012 to get cp3 or howard.First im not sure having howard amare would work even though howard is under the basket and stat likes the jumper from straight away. But those two and obviously Melo need the ball and like to shoot. Would having that work??? In Miami i personally think there will be problems down the line. I feel if we take our Big two and plug in guys for specific purposes it would be more effective. The bulls have Rose whose an MVP Noah and Boozer, which are there big three but not on Miami’s level. They have pieces like Korver and Deng and personally are the best team. Id much rather go that route then have amare stat howard/cp3 with andy rautins and earl boykins on the bench. My thoughts
Love Shannon Brown as our 2.
He’s really coming into his own as a defender and 3 point shooter to go with his insane athleticism. Also like others have said Deandre Jordan or Dalembert would be awesome. Really like Dahntay Jones as a bench player too
