We really need a Chris Paul, Deron Williams or Dwight Howard to have any chance of competing for a championship. The Heat looked vulnerable during the regular season but have turned it up when they needed to. As much as i hate to say it, they deserve some credit for doing what they are doing and are going to be a force to reckon with for a long time. I didn't think they had it in them.
Here's why we need one of those guys: (and my preference is a guard simply because i think either of the two mentioned above give the heat a nasty rash when playing them).
1) Miami having the ability to switch lebron's defense on the other teams point guard really helps to stop the point of attack. Chris Paul or Deron Williams will make lebron pay for his transgressions if miami chooses to switch him on either of the two by breaking him down off the dribble to score a bucket or finding the open man.
2) We really need to upgrade the talent we currently have on our team. (Chauncey is a veteran who has witnessed his best days as a piston and nugget. Yeah, he will have the occasional good game for us once a week. But the threat of losing him for a long period of time is higher than the threat of him actually winning a game. And, I love Chauncey and his vet moves.... just not now with so much at stake.
3) The NBA is a league of stars. Only those teams with at least 3 allstars on their roster (either current or former) are still playing in the playoffs. Dallas has a ton stored on the court and in the stands. Caron Butler. Veteran stars get star treatment.
By bringing in an superstar who is ready to compete on a championship level, we accomplish a few things. We make miami normal by leaving lebron where he was scheduled to play and not disrupt our offense. We get a guy who is playoff and battle tested. And, when crunch time comes, we will be able to run a play. It was a shame to see the thunder and chicago not be able to get off a shot at the end of the game during crunch time.
having 3 stars on our team removes miami's options to do different things on the court defensively. and if they still choose to put lebron on let's say Chris Paul, then one of the other guys are gonna light somebody's ass up who is out of place and in a mismatch.
So in conclusion, Donnie, please go and get a few pieces in the draft that will help us out on the defensive end and make sure you have melo place a bug in CP3's ear during his wedding coming up.
