so we're in our descent, heading towards D day, and we've done all our research and read all the rumors. we've compiled our lists of bigs and littles who we covet and consulted the cosmos for guidance.
one of the strange qualities of this years draft, is the lack of distinction within this years pool of prospects. if there's one thing we all agree on, it's that there's no clear cut "best available". perhaps when 17 arrives, a name will stand out as the "best available"... but probably not. there are risks and possibilities and potentials and specialists... but no slam dunks (at least after maybe the first 2 picks).
"no stars but plenty of depth" seems to be this years mantra and as such, any pick is a roll of the dice... but this hasn't stopped us here at P & T from making bold claims as to who we should pick.
so for this post, rather than discuss who it is you'd want at 17... i thought it might be more interesting to hear who the one guy is you DON'T want drafted (especially because that's the guy dolan usually pushes for us to draft).
for me, that guy is klay thompson. over the course of my research (if you can call internet surfing for what other guys like us think about the prospects as research), i've concluded that while he has one skill which would come in handy (shooting) with our system, he's far too one-dimensional. his lack of athleticism, strength, agility and defensive prowess really put me off and given that we have the landriest of landry's, i'd hate to bring in a guy who does one thing better than him, no matter how allegedly special he is at that one thing. if we're going with a 2, i'd take any other (brooks, leslie, selby etc.).
so which player do you want to avoid at all costs? and why?
