Knicks/Wolves trade rumor

There's a rumor out now that the Knicks and Wolves are in discussions about a potentially trading Toney Douglas (good defender off the bench, led the league in 3's after the all-star break) for Johnny Flynn (possible draft bust, spent time in D-League).  I understand that Flynn is more of a "pure point guard" but the guy hasn't proven that he's a good NBA player and DWTDD has been a proven contributor for a playoff team.  And I'm tired of the Knicks getting rid of so many likeable players.  I want to see Toney Douglas stay a Knick for a long time.

This is not a rumor

Isola was perusing the internet one night and decided to make it a rumor. They ain’t trading TD for Flynn.

I'd rather have a PG than a combo-guard backing up Chauncey

but I just don’t think Jonny Flynn is as good of a player as Douglas. We would ‘lose’ this trade, talent-wise.

I'm not sure

that the Knicks need a true point guard. considering how much Melo isolates, I wonder if he’d even fit in to a system where the point guard does all the playmaking. I can imagine him having a hard time playing off the ball, much like LeBron does.
Once Chauncey’s gone, TD could actually be a good fit at starting PG – he defends well and he can space the floor for Melo/Amar’e.
then again, a guy who can really run a pick-and-roll would be such a great fit with STAT…

They were actually decent

Took a long ass time, but against teams that were not the Miami Heat, they were running that shit pretty well

by WSD on Jun 21, 2011 12:32 AM EDT up reply actions

The biggest problem was Felton's poor shooting

it messed everything up because defenders went under the screen

i think DWTDD is a fine SG.

but idk about him as a PG.
i think this is anoter reason why we had to keep chauney. to teach DWTDD the ways of a PG

I'm worried that TD's shoulder injury may be worse than first reported

All these reports of the Knicks trying to trade him for Flynn or package him with the 17th pick just to move up 2 spots in a weak draft. Makes him think the front office is worried about his long term health.
Otherwise I don’t see how these deals really benefit the Knicks.

the other explanation is that Isola is bored

wow stupid trade

I like Flynn but Douglas is better

Bruce Carter+Sean Lee=BRUCE LEE!!!!

To be fair to Jonny,

I feel that Jonny didn’t fit in to Minnesota’s system. He’d be better pretty much anywhere else. Still, I wouldn’t trade him for Toney Douglass.

by adselver15 on Jun 21, 2011 12:23 AM EDT reply actions

Keep TD

But I also believe Flynn was just in a bad spot in Minny. Bad, bad sophomore slump, but as a rookie – 13.5 ppg, 4.4 apg, 35.8% 3FG….. Those are actually pretty nice numbers

by WSD on Jun 21, 2011 12:35 AM EDT reply actions

I agree with you.

He’s talked many times about how he struggles with trying to run the triangle that kurt rambis wants to run.

I live Flynn….but for TD?! Ehhh…idk

I sprinkle diamonds on everything I eat...1. its the most baller shit ever! 2. it makes my dookie twinkle baby.

T.Douglas is a complete player for the NBA Knicks rotation of ten.
J.Flynn is a talent that is marginal for the NBA. He would be a bottom five on a 15 team player roster. He is just a good practice player.

by Dziedzic on Jun 21, 2011 10:11 AM EDT reply actions

I like Flynn and think he has much game to showcase.

But definitely not on the bandwagon to trade Toney for him. And I think the Knicks aren’t either. The only reason he is available is because Minny has a logjam at PG with Rubio coming. So why in the hell would they look to swap a PG for a PG?? Toney is a bit short for play the 2, and Minny can just draft a real 2 at #20. So it doesn’t really make sense for either team.

Young PG for Young PG… its a pretty weak attempt at a rumor.

I don't believe in trading better players for worse ones.

Toney Douglas was better than Flynn in College and he is better than Flynn right now! Flynn was hyped and Douglas was not that is the only difference.

Hey, just read about a rumor: Toney Douglas [+ Cash] for Omri Casspi

Not sure, what I think of this. Guess it all depends on who we draft though. If we get a big and a PG, then I could probably live with it (especially if it’s Jimmer)

by Kylero on Jun 21, 2011 6:42 PM EDT reply actions

ew no

I wouldn’t wanna see them trade TD for Casspi either. Why trade a guy who could be our sixth man for years for a guy who might get 10 minutes a game backing up Melo?

by chris-9999 on Jun 22, 2011 12:52 AM EDT up reply actions

Toney Douglas

Is not that good. Jonny is way better than him. Remember the kid had to play in the triangle which is not pg friendly. D’Antonis is. Toney was not a good shooter and learned in the system. Jonny is a score first pg who can dribble and pass better than toney. And also think about the future. Jonny could learn under Chauncey and take over next year.

Toney is not capable enough to run this team. He can’t pass and he has no floor vision.

Jonny

Disregard this

my iphone messed up and i had to send two messages.

by Fabfreebird on Jun 22, 2011 2:16 AM EDT up reply actions

Jonny is

Way better than toney. The love here for him is a little crazy. He can shoot threes and tire himself on defense and that’s about it. Give me the guy who can dribble, pass and posseses floor vision. The triangle messed up jonnys game the same way D’Antonis system ballooned toneys.

Jonny > toney

by Fabfreebird on Jun 22, 2011 2:14 AM EDT via mobile reply actions

I dunno

I watched the Knicks last year and TD was pretty good. Anyone who’s seen Flynn has said he sucks.

Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows

by Rorschach44 on Jun 22, 2011 8:29 AM EDT up reply actions

I saw the knicks too

and I don’t completely disagree with you. There were times when TD was really good and there were times when he was really bad. Inconsistency is the word. I think that Flynn could be groomed to garner stability at the PG position and that overall, he’s just a better baller than TD.

by Fabfreebird on Jun 22, 2011 8:44 AM EDT reply actions

Because Flynn played in Rambis' tradgangle

He has promise despite being meh for two years. But Toney Douglas has some really fine basketball skills that we actually know about.

It’s possible that this trade could make us better but I’d say the odds are it would not improve our team.
