Josh who?

I've been following the draft a lot lately, so I knew about most of the prospects that got picked.
However.....when I heard about the second Knicks selection, I couldn't help but say "who the hell????"  I've never heard of this guy at any point.  Does anybody know anything about him?  Does he have any game?

On another note, I'm pretty happy with the Iman Shumpert selection.  I haven't really seen him play, but I trust Walsh's judgement and his defensive versatility (can guard 1's, 2's, and 3's) could make him a contributor in his first year.

Whoever this Harrellson guy is, he's probably a long-term project like Jerome Jordan, so we'll still need a center (I have my doubts that Ronny will be able to stay healthy all year).  Who do ya'll think the Knicks should pursue?

Per Yahoo!'s analysis

Sat on the bench 3 years, played his senior season and became the best big man in the SEC.

So, here’s hoping he’ll be good enough.

did a bit of research

and I’m hearing some Bill Laimbeer comparisons. I have a feeling he won’t get too many minutes though.

i loved that freakin game

I think it was Bobby V who said: "You are never as good as you are when you are at your best, and you are not as bad as when you are at your worst."

I'll believe it

when I see Barrelson take a three pointer and make it. God damn I hated Bill Laimbeer when he did that. Hated that guy, but actually he was awesome and if Barrellson could play like that? Excefuckinglent.

went to a juco

came to ku played a bit one year and sat the year of wall, cousins etc.
big big boy 6’10 275
not tremendously skilled but a big body and willing to do anything to play
prob will help us rebounding and playing d. happy that they got him but wish they got another pick but wished they moved a scrub(balkman, shelden etc) and would have given a guy like benson a shot maybe hansborough…shocked he didnt get picked

by Bockas r back on Jun 24, 2011 1:23 AM EDT reply actions

Shelden is not signed

We are rid of him unless he re-signs with us. I don’t think the Knicks will bother.

think a slightly less bouncy david lee...

with better strength, better man to man defense with similar shot blocking ability. he could be a very good anchor at the 5. he’s got the ability and willingness to slide when a guard gets in the lane and is a very very good offensive rebounder. not a glamorous pick, but he could be a strong sidekick to amare. i can also see him busting his ass to perfect the 12-14 foot jumper.

and let’s hope jerome jordan becomes the offensive side of the 2 sided coin.

by bucketsncents on Jun 24, 2011 6:50 AM EDT reply actions

yurp... BUT...

i genuinely think he’s going to shock the world. he’s gonna bust his ass to prove himself, get in shape, drop body fat and get beast strong, and his skills are going to fit perfectly once fine tuned.

he’ll board, clog the lane, knock drivers on asses, defend the p & r, develop into a solid pick n popper, and he’ll be an above average passer.

think a more agile brad miller.

by bucketsncents on Jun 24, 2011 6:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Ya know,

I don’t see the Lee comparison. Lee is actually pretty graceful and is kind of a finesse player. Isn’t Harrellson more of a bruiser type of lunk?

by fuhry on Jun 24, 2011 12:50 PM EDT up reply actions

I wouldn't get hung up on it

This guy is probably not an NBA player.

by flossy on Jun 24, 2011 7:45 AM EDT reply actions

Harrellson is much less of a project then Jerome Jordan

he’s probably a lot like a shorter, more mobile Aaron Gray. Maybe he never plays a minute for us, but while he doesn’t have much potential I think he’s pretty ready to play.

He’s tenacious around the rim too, very good rebounder and takes up a lot of space. I really hope he fits in here cuz his size and skillset are perfect.

harrellson will beat out jordan...

this i’m confident of and comfortable with.

I think I agree with you.

His heart and hustle will make up for his lack of length… But I think it is a mistake to say this guy is not an athlete. His no-step vertical is very good (just an inch less than Blake Griffin) and his agility score (9.20) is really kind of amazing for a big man. He’s not really fast per se but I don’t know how often that comes into play.

We like to talk about 6 fouls to give, but the guy actually can play D without fouling. And I hear rumblings that he can shoot a little.

I think the big thing to overcome for him is his lack of length. He’s got less reach than Amar’e or Turiaf. But I think heart will take him a long way.

by fuhry on Jun 25, 2011 9:06 AM EDT up reply actions

I think that lane agility score must be a mistake

there is simply no way this big lug did a full second better than the best guards of the draft class:

Norris Cole 10.07
Andrew Goudelock 10.33
Jimmer Fredette 10.42
Scotty Hopson 10.47
Isaiah Thomas 10.49
Brandon Knight 10.74
Marshon Brooks 10.74
Cory Joseph 10.75
David Lighty 10.81
Jon Leuer 10.82
Kemba Walker 10.87

Jordan doesn't have heart and hustle?

Congrats on winning your first NBA championship, Peja Stojakovic!

Harrellson

15-10 in the SEC tournament, very tough, should at least get the other Knicks fired up and working hard. Improved tremendously last year and working to be in better shape and better overall. I hope he gets a chance.

by mindfeck on Jun 24, 2011 12:58 PM EDT reply actions

D'Antoni plays whoever he thinks can contribute to the success of his basketball team

he doesn’t really make players prove themselves with small sample minutes to test them out. If he thinks Harrellson can contribute right away, Harrellson may very well end up playing 20 minutes a game right off the bat.

by BJabs on Jun 24, 2011 1:39 PM EDT reply actions

True but I doubt that he makes the squad unless we get shut out in Free Agency.

I like the fact that we bought his rights though. If he does not make it. Stash him overseas let him continue to work and bring him back when he is ready. Nothing wrong with taking mutliple project bigs and letting them develop on someone else’s dime and then bringing them in when we can reap the benefits.

by Robert Curre on Jun 24, 2011 3:49 PM EDT up reply actions

It just occurred to me

Harrellson could conceivably become a player kind of like Turiaf.
