Around SBN: Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant's Post-Game 5 Outfits

This is video of Melo in Hong Kong playing some basketball, wearing a headset, and using an iPad. Oh, and Chris Paul was with him cause he probs doesn't have his own iPad and was like, "Yo, I need to find them Golden Eggs."

I love Melo and Chris Paul's chemistry.

It will be awesome to see in MSG next year/year after that.

Sort of like if there was a silent T at the end.

So he’s P&T’s Andre the Gian of posting.

It's actually "g-yawn" like Ian Mahnimi.

But I, too, drank 119 beers in six hours like Andre.

Chris Paul will be a Knick

seriously, I’ve already put money on it, it is that obvious to me.

I really don't understand the critiques about Carmelo's weight

It’s really a boon to your game to be able to have some bulk on your frame while maintaining strength and explosion. For example, there’s no way Chris Paul would be able to play in the league at his height if he weren’t so burly and strong. It lets you play bigger than your height and bully guys around in the post and finding your spots.

As much as we praise Amar’e’s physique (pause) to me the biggest sign that he’s had microfracture surgery is the fact that at 28 years old he’s playing at around 245 pounds. He came into the league with a Dwight Howard-esque frame and for a while worked on developing a back to the basket game. But now because he can’t add bulk like he used to he’s been pidgeon holed as a slasher with a face-up game. I don’t criticize Amar’e for not having a back to the basket game like I criticize Lebron because Amar’e is too slight to be able to bully around other power forwards and centers in the post.

Listen kid

Even Melo himself said he was poorly conditioned when he got traded to the Knicks. I know you like disagreeing with me, but please re-read what you just wrote and ask yourself if there isn’t a better way to spend your time than concocting arguments that it’s better to carry a spare tire like Carmelo than look like an action figure, like Amar’e.

by flossy on Aug 6, 2011 6:10 PM EDT up reply actions

you are right his conditioning could be a bit better

but I am not concocting arguments about Amar’e. When he was younger he used to be able to overpower anyone in the paint. Tim Duncan is slight but he has a very strong base—he could do NOTHING against Amar’e. Amar’e used to abuse Karl Malone, Kevin Garnett, and David Robinson too (granted Malone and Robinson were ancient, but they were still big, strong dudes). Now he just cannot be very big for the sake of his knees and you can see that it’s easier to stop him when he doesn’t get ahead of steam because he weighs less than a lot of power forwards and centers and doesn’t have the explosion he used to have.

Carmelo doesn’t have Amar’e’s knee problems so he can carry some extra bulk. Yes it hurts his conditioning but it also allows him to be bigger and stronger than anything power forward in the league not named Lebron. That’s why he gets the Bernard King comparisons—because he can bully guys around so well in the post with his size and strength. Also, he’s a “fat athletic” type of dude like CP3, Deron, Josh Smith, and Shaq.

sorry I don't mean to be contradictory with you

I just thought it was worthwhile to point out that there are some downsides to Amar’e’s current build and upsides to Carmelo’s build. But yeah, if Amar’e hadn’t gotten injured he wouldn’t look like Carmelo, he would look like Dwight Howard with narrower shoulders but a stronger base and arms.

Kinda interesting that the two guys going on this tour are two of the least physically impressive super stars in the NBA

It takes away a lot from the spectacle that is an NBA player in a foreign country. I mean..if Dwight Howard or Amar’e walked through the streets of Hong Kong, sure, people would be excited to see celebrities, but they would also be excited to see people with height and strength beyond anyone they’ve ever seen before. With Melo and CP3, they only have the celebrity thing going for them.

well Carmelo's really tall . . . but yeah
