John Schuhmann on Tyson Chandler's Offensive Presence
Schuhmann shows us-- with numbers-- that Amar'e Stoudemire hasn't quite figured out how to continue playing his game with Tyson Chandler on the floor, and neither has the rest of the Knicks' offense, really. Chandler's presence, of course, should be a boon to Amar'e and the rest of the Knicks, but they're still working on that.

Numbers basically reflect what we've been seeing in the games
That said, I’d like to see a breakdown that analyzes how it’s been the last four games to see if there’s already been some improvement, which I suspect there is.

I agree
Amar’e has definitely made a more concerted effort during this win streak to play closer to the rim — with or without chandler on the floor. He’s thinking drive first (albeit sometimes foolishly) rather than relying on his mid-range jumper.
Even though they didn’t score much last night, improvement seems to be happening incrementally.

I've seen numerous articles like this, but it doesn't explain why he did so much better when Shaq was the center
Before the season started, most thought that he played much better at PF, since he did with Shaq. Maybe that is the case, but he doesn’t play well with Carmelo (who is also on the court when Chandler is). Or perhaps he’s just feeling less aggressive these days and defers to Melo and Chandler if they’re in.
shaq is not the same thing as chandler
shaq is a post player. even as a 37-year-old dinosaur, he draws double teams. he opens up the other half of the lane with said double teams. that’s how he opens things up for amare.
chander is an awkward baby giraffe on offense who barely draws single teams.

As soon as I heard that Amare' was working on his 3-Pt shot,I knew it would take him time to adjust.
Played a lot of his career with his back to the basket.
amare does not play back to the basket at all . . .
when he was younger he was working on it, but he kind of gave up after a few years.

yeah, this is worrying to me
amare needs to find that jumper (and i mean really find that jumper . .. it has to be money) at some point or i don’t see how this trio is going to have long term success. it’s just an awkward fit. amare is accustomed to space in which to operate, and chandler doesn’t give him that space.
it won’t happen because of reasons not having to do with basketball, but i would seriously consider trading amare for a player who could fit with carmelo and tyson more. the ideal player would be dirk nowitzki, but that ain’t happening. i think the poor man’s dirk nowitzki would be a good substitute. that’s right, andrea bargnani. perfect fit.
i’d also be down with luis scola or pau gasol because they can operate in the high post which means chandler won’t get in their ways.
it won’t happen. but if all the gm had to think about were basketball, that’d be the trade to make.

I'd like to think our GM is smarter than to make rash decisions based on a very small sample of games
We don’t even have our real PG yet

i don't think i'm being rash
there’s no reason for amare and carmelo to fit together. carmelo should be playing in the post. he is a half court player. amare should be playing in running, pick and roll system. it is very tough for them to play off each other. even if baron can get amare going, that still doesn’t mean there will be synergy with out guys. just baron/amare and then carmelo off to the side. they are just not a good fit. if you have carmelo anthony, you put post oriented, half court players next to him. that’s not amare.
