More Money More Problems

Biggie said it, the New York Knicks forget it. The organization has now shown that they will forever be the "Knicks", with thousands of fans stuck in a state a delusion (me included). But lets be serious here. The NYK 's have shown that they have not learned a thing since handing over 100 million to H20 (my fave all-time player). Things were finally looking up, Danillo Gallanari was improving, and we had a few good young pieces with plenty of cap space. Then what do we do? Blow it all up and look for the quick fix! SMH

Carmelo Anthony then became synonymous with Championship. The only problem about that was that he never even came close. Ok ok, his team wasn't good enough right? Right, but there's a lot more to the story. See below

Speaking of problems, now we face not one, not two, but many. And let the list begin. Count them up! (toes if you run out of fingers)

1. Carmelo Anthony isn't a great player. He can put the ball in the basket and that's about it. He doesn't make teammates better, he stops the ball, and takes terrible shots. Lets not add in his terrible defensive awareness and lack of getting back on defense.

2. Stat, the nickname should say it all. He's one of the dumbest players i have ever seen in my life. ( Sorry for the harsh words im sure he's a nice guy) He makes the same mistakes every game! I can go on forever about his lack of basketball knowledge but I guess videos says a million words. His CONTRACT has to be the worst contract since H20's.

3. Camelo Anthony and Stat are two max players that do not and will never be able to play at a high level together.

4. Tyson Chandler is worth half of his contract. Why hasn't this 7 footer brought what many believed he possessed? Toughness and Tenacity! Because he weighs 235 lbs! He's too small to make a huge impact defensively. Many other centers in this league are terrible defensively but make a bigger difference because they take up space. He only takes up space on offense.

5. No point guard. Not having a point guard in an era where there are many great point guards is, well you can do the math.

6. Mike Antni, most refuse to put a D in his name, I refuse to put an O. His play sets and late game calls are atroucious. Did anyone catch the play the Bulls ran to win the game where rose was a decoy and they had the backdoor pass open to deng for the jam? Mike would never do anything like that. Now a days its just give the ball to melo. Post him up 5 straight plays and hope for the best. I can understand giving him the ball every couple of plays but doing the same thing over and over with a bad outcome is the definition of insanity if i'm not mistaking. "He's got to GO, He will GO, but WHEN?".

7. Carmelo Anthony and Stat. Yes them again! Funny story, back when the knicks started clearing their cap space a friend asked me who do i want the Knicks to end up getting. I told them Lebron and if we cant get him then we should take our time and rebuild with young players and draft picks. Draft picks, they asked? Yes, because i would rather have a young fun team then a bunch of overrated players like Carmelo and Amare. And a couple years later, my dreams come true!

8. No Quick fix trade will get rid of Amare, Chandler, or Melo! The league gm's know they aren't worth the money and will be reminded daily because of the amount of press the knicks get.

8. Miscellaneous I had a lot more to add but this is getting tiring and depressing. Those are only a few problems, i'm sure we can go on for eternity.

The point is our "Knicks will always be our Knicks". We will always be the laughed about when we tell people were Knicks fans. Our organization just doesn't understand what a championship team consists of. We may look ok on paper but games are played on the court where flaws are highlighted ten fold when you step into the Garden.

(first post, sorry for the long read have been a lurker for the past few years and had to get it off my chest.)

More Money More Problems!

boy oh boy...

do i wish i didn’t agree with most of your sentiments. bringing in amare should have been it. if we would’ve stayed there and played the rest of our cards smarter, slower and more deliberately (rather than going all in and losing all our chips), we’d be better, deeper, brighter, more fun… and less knicksish.

regarding the tyson sentiment… i’m a big fan (anyone who can defend dwight the way he does is worth extra dollars). money aside, he’s a player, with the size, character and skill set to build a championship with (not around). only problem is his surrounding cast.

regarding the no fix issue… that i can’t get with. i’m too much of a fan. as donnie walsh proved, there is always a way…

Tyson

I agree with the thought on Tyson, and of course he’s overpaid you’ll always overpay for size but he is actually good on defense. He is a huge improvement over what we would’ve had at the position. What he bring on defense (intensity, communication, focus) make up for his less than stellar offensive abilities. He, like Amare needs to have a good, not even great, consistent PG to give easy looks.

by Mr. 2 on Jan 18, 2012 11:57 AM EST up reply actions

i agree, but im not saying were going to be terrible, im just saying were going to be a mediocre team as long as we have melo amare and tyson

by njsnip on Jan 18, 2012 3:50 PM EST up reply actions

but thats the problem

Amare wanted another ’superstar" on his side and he wanted Carmelo, who is a great friend of his. I have no doubt that Carmelo is a better player than Amare and, yes he even plays defense better than him.

why would i go into hiding? i have been a knicks fan my whole life why wouldn’t i want them to win? I hope we do but the odds are definately stacked against us. Sorry for being a realist jesh

Even after everything that's happened so far this yr...

We still have 2 of the top 15 players in the league. A top 10 player in Melo and the second best defensive Center in the league.

Calm down with the negativity. Our team is going to get things going. We are one or two role playing pieces away from being a dominant legendary dynasty.

If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere...It's up to you, New York, New York!!!!

by MrWilliams on Jan 18, 2012 12:32 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

amare is not a top 15 player in the league

by njsnip on Jan 18, 2012 3:48 PM EST up reply actions

Not top 15, but definitly top 25….

Amare is between 18-21 on my list

by Chris3035 on Jan 18, 2012 7:09 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

I'll be a realist

Amar’e and Melo have been in the playoffs every year of their careers. Melo made the Nuggets a playoff team from day 1 after years of asscrackery. He also won a national championship in college. The frontline as a whole is full of guys that hate to lose. The team was also assembled the first day of training camp, December 9th. Season started 16 days later.

by total hermination on Jan 18, 2012 4:20 PM EST up reply actions

being in the playoffs isnt that much of an acomplishment. amare is smiling after every game. and i hug out with melo the same night he lost a playoff game and you would have never guessed

Who cares if he says he hung out with Melo? If he did he did, cool. If he didn't, so what?

I don’t get the sarcasm. His story either way is exactly the same shit you’d read in the Post the day after with a picture of Amare and Melo posing and pointing at the camera.

1)Didnt Melo lead the Nuggets to the NBA championship game in 2009? Yes he did so there goes your argument

2) your dislike for D’Antoni is due to your lack of knowledge of how a NBA offence works, our offensive system is the best in the league

3)we hired Mike Woodson for D

4)we dont need a true PG, the offence runs thru Melo, he has PG skills

5) Chandler is a stud, Centers are rare in the NBA, Chandler was a key piece to a championship team last year

6)Amare has a new role this year, he isnt the primary finisher in the PnR now that Chandler is here, he will have to adjust to the role of stretch 4, he is our 3rd offensive option now

by Chris3035 on Jan 18, 2012 4:31 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Is Melo, Amare and Chandler my ideal core? No, would I perfer a 100% homegrown team? Yes…

But it is what it is, the core is built, now let it gel…8 brand new players, no offseason camp, no preseason….let them build some chemistry before we blow it up

by Chris3035 on Jan 18, 2012 4:33 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

"best in the league?"...

in theory only this year. lots of square pegs and round holes.

and just to clarify, the offense doesn’t “run through melo”… it starts with and ends with melo. yeah, he can make some nice passes and accumulate some assists, but this doesn’t a winning PG make… a PG creates the pace and stirs ball movement, they don’t just get assists.

all other negativity aside, yeah, this is who we are and will most likely be… but i’ll be damned if i’m gonna excuse sucking at elements of the game that don’t require chemistry… like passing and moving without the ball (and no, passing and cutting and moving without the ball don’t require years of playing together).

by bucketsncents on Jan 18, 2012 4:53 PM EST up reply actions

Melos ability to create, his ball handling, his court vision, his passing ability…is on par with almost PGs in the league…he has the skill-set to run the O

The square peg right now is Stat, he has to become more of a perimiter 4 in order for our system to work

by Chris3035 on Jan 18, 2012 5:10 PM EST up reply actions

what stretch 4's are in the league...

are making max money?

ryan anderson is a stretch 4… and he destroyed us… and is making a fraction of stat’s salary… and stat will never have that kind of stroke or range.

i agree he’s struggling, but if he’s gotta turn into a stretch 4 for us to be contenders… we’re screwed.

regarding melo, yeah, he might have the some of the skills you mentioned, but he does not PLAY like a PG. he plays like a scorer with occasional bursts of team ball, and his ball handling is limited to drives or pull ups… he doesn’t probe defenses which is a huge part of running the offense.

by bucketsncents on Jan 18, 2012 5:20 PM EST up reply actions

Amare needs to become more like Dirk

Not necessarily a “stretch 4” but his perimiter shooting needs to become featured…

Otherwise the paint is clogged

by Chris3035 on Jan 18, 2012 5:45 PM EST up reply actions

Dirk is a real superstar and Amare is not. That’s the difference and I am angry to say this but it’s how it is.

by RASHADI on Jan 19, 2012 5:04 AM EST up reply actions

Melo in not a point guard

but he is being forced to be a facilitator because we don’t have currently except for the injured point guard in the suit. But you right.

by RASHADI on Jan 19, 2012 4:56 AM EST up reply actions

The offense has to run thru Melo the way the team is currently built

by Chris3035 on Jan 19, 2012 1:10 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

melo had pg skills?lmao …and he has never been to a championship, he went to western conference finals once. D’antoni’s system is a joke.

by njsnip on Jan 18, 2012 10:05 PM EST up reply actions

Thats what I meant, hes been deep in the playoffs..

Melo definitly has PG skills, he is extremly talented…

And DAntonis system is unstopable if you have shooters

I don’t know how much basketball you watch or you just repeat what you hear from the ‘experts" on yahoo or ERSPN but Tyson is not how you described him. He may look slim, but he is strong and can guard big centers without needing help. Sometimes it’s not about looks but about how strong someone is and Tyson is a great defender with great feet and good hands. Of course we payed a lot but centers are expansive these days, and if you don’t believe me, just wait and see how much New Jersey or the Lakers will pay for Dwight Howard next year just because of his name. I agree about the Amare and 100 million but Knicks were desperate as no other star took them serious. You say you rather have Lebron but I am not so impressed by him. I rather have the guy with heart, who does not panic and can take over games. Lebron hasn’t impressed me so far when it really matters except at certain times very brief.

I agree with some of your statements but there are some disagreements and the usual repeating what others have said on TV.

by RASHADI on Jan 19, 2012 4:54 AM EST reply actions

all i do is watch basketball. And you may be right lebron might not have the heart but he is an all around player. but u cant sit here and tell me melo has heart. the shape he is in is pathetic. i think he let being a “superstar” get to his head. And no i dont read anything those “experts” say they are paid to criticize.

whoa big man

You can disagree with someone on this site. It happens in every thread. Don’t know why you need to lump the whole blog and every commenter into one dissenting opinion.

Then again, I don’t know why I’m bothering to white knight for P&T when it stands on its own merits. If you don’t like the level of discourse here you can either feel free to contribute some thoughtful responses or peace out. This isn’t the first time someone here has said some ridiculous shit another guy disagreed with(LeBron is the shit), but I’d like to think this is the kind of blog where the commenters can have some mutual respect and point out where they went wrong without over-reacting.

Just sayin man.

how’d you know straight from my momma’s basement. This is the the internet what is the problem with not using proper grammar. Maybe if i was in my mothers basement I would have time to check my grammar. I didn’t claim to hang out with him, that wasnt even the point of me saying that. But yea I was opening up for someone at a club that he went to on that night. If thats soooo hard to believe maybe you need to get out your mothers basement.

by njsnip on Jan 20, 2012 2:41 PM EST up reply actions

The problem isn’t Melo and Tyson. They can play together and would do great. The problem is Amare has never been able to play with a traditional center. They tried in Phoenix with Shaq and it didn’t work. the only kind of centers he could play with are the kind who cans hoot from long range and who can “stretch” the floor. Also, without an elite pg, amare is not a superstar at all and very overpaid but thats what happens when you want ‘superstars’ and that word is overrated anyway. I bet you put Melo, tyson and david west together and they will do fine. Or even put Bosh(who i hate) and he would do fine too. Stat is diff from other power forwards as he cant play with centers. So this should be a good lesson for those who kept saying we need a “defensive minded big” who can just block, rebound and play defense. as if it’s that easy and suddenly everything is fine.

Nevertheless, they can work it out and I think they will but it will take time as Amare has to learn how to play ball with a center and they need a point guard.

by RASHADI on Jan 19, 2012 5:03 AM EST reply actions

Disagree about Chandler...

so far I’d say he has basically been as advertised. He’s played very good defensive, has rebounded well, very vocal and has shown good leadership. He’s not meant to be an offensive player, but he’s still a huge threat rolling to the hoop and his FTs have been great.

We should so easily have enough offense on this team to not need much our of our starting C. And look at our defensive rating this year… so much better than last year.

I DO agree about Melo and Stat not easily fitting well together. They seem ideal for opposite styles with Melo being iso-dominant and Stat thriving in a ball/offball movement type offense. Could it work? Sure, with a PG like Nash to orchestrate things… but unless we have that, it seems like it’ll be a struggle.

by Zhantee on Jan 19, 2012 9:57 AM EST reply actions

a point guard is a must if were gonna have amare. i feel like having amare and melo on defense will never work. amare is just well amare and melo is a decent one on one defender but has terrible awareness. Stats are stats i hate when people bring up ratings and things. We play slow as hell and hold the ball longer now so of coarse its going to look better.
