If the Knicks rebuilt
I am new to posting and toasting and after looking around am excited to talking knicks with you guys everyone seems insightful and respectful now I am writing a piece about what rebuilding the knicks could look like i dont think that should be looked upon as an option yet I wanna see this team with a real point guard (Baron Davis) running the team and see how the guys respond but in the event it still isnt working out the knicks should already start thinking rebuild before amares value shrinks more than it already has bare with me as im not a GM or anything but this is what I can see us getting in return for our three top guys if you think im being unrealistic feel free to bring this post back to earth ill break it down after the jump
Lets start with the guy everyone wants to see moved Amare Stoudemire he has a big uninsured contract but there are always teams really ready and desperate to take on a player of his star status the team ill focus on is the houston rockets who have shown interest in every available superstar recently they were willing to part with scola kevin martin and dragic for pau gasol and you can expect a similar package for Amare if i was the knicks I would tweak this deal abit and drop martin and dragic and try to get a package of Scola and Kyle Lowry those two guys are great players scola is very versatile and can post you up or be very effective in the pick and roll while Kyle Lowry is a budding star in this league averaging 17 ppg and 9 apg this year he is very young and if the knicks can push that deal through it would be nice to have a young guard to build around
Now if i was the knicks i might stick with that roster of lowry fields anthony scola chandler but lets say they want to move all three stars while im not a huge fan of this idea carmelo anthony is a player we could get a nice package for and just to throw it out there lets say we trade him to New jersey a team desperate for another star we can get brooks lopez and two first round picks which isnt an awful package brooks is a good player who can score with the best of them and picks are something the knicks will need if they are looking to rebuild the knicks may even be able to squeeze the nets for me because of how badly the nets need a star
Now Chandler a very good defensive player and everyone in the league could use size lets look at a team that really wanted chandler in the offseason and desperately lacks size inside and that team is the golden state warriors who could give us a very nice package for chandler maybe a young talented player like klay thompson a guy the knicksd really liked last year who could really grow into his own the next couple of years and also the knicks may be able to pick up another first round pick as well or if not klay thompson David Lee is also an option to come back to ny with a first round pick which would be interesting
our starting five would probably be lowry thompson fields scola and lopez with shumpert douglas harrellson still on the bench and now acouple of extra picks and with the success we have had drafting lately it would be nice to see what we could do with acouple first round picks the team we would put on the floor would be young and exciting and fun to watch learn and grow
i know you guys dont like talking rumors or things like this but its more of a thinking towards the future if things dont turn out the way we would like feel free to comment and let your imagination run wild guys and let me know what you think of my ideas of ways rebuilding could go appreciate you guys reading my post thanks

Lee might be a great option to complement Chandler (another unselfish team player).
However, that is precisely why it won’t happen.
Dolan will never move Stoudemare and Melo; it would be ANOTHER embarassing disaster.
I still haven’t recovered recovered from the McGrady for 2 number one draft choices and Jordan
Hill. Then McGrady only plays like 24 gms for NY.
I still haven’t recovered from Knicks not resigning David Lee and instead, signing Amare who
is not as good a player and cost a lot more.
Trading Gallinari, Chandler, and multiple #1s for carmelo was shear insanity.
This franchise is DONE, OVER, KAPUT!!!!!
i love lee and all.
but stat is better

but is he as good a fit with melo and tyson?
just playing devils advocate. he has more moves, better hands and handle and is a better rebounder.

But the one thing he lacks, that TAT provides is the face to this franchise
STAT is the Man in NYC, Not Melo, Not landry (Okay, maybe landry).
u can argue who is better at grabbing voards, or who will dish it to melo or what not.
and i like lee, i like him a lot. and it would be great to have him back, but not at the cost of stat

can't say that i would either...
but the fact that it’s as close a debate as it is is a testament to lee’s evolution. the kid has become an unbelievably skilled forward. it’d be real interesting seeing him with melo and tyson.

agree, he has had an amazing career since leaving the knicks.
and an amazing season thus far…. Thank god my fantasy league is dumb enough to let me take marc gasol and lee in back2back picks in the 5th and 6th rds i think it was

i agree
with getting rid of gallo ill will etc. but geting rid of our whole team is absurd. Plus our team is a lot worse off (lowry, thompson, landry, scola, lopez)
They'd be the Rockets except with like 10 first round picks
Also no way the Rockets would make the trade. Scola sucks but Lowry is a top PG.
Oh and I think the Knicks would be better after the impossible moves
But Klay Thompson for Chandler is ridiculously bad
We have to ride this out...
for better or for worse, this is what we have.
Honestly the best way to build a contender is building through the draft. But that takes time, and I think Dolan is an impatient person which reflects in his GMs actions sometimes.
It will take even more time because we keep trading away draft picks.
My Wife is a Patriot's fan...
>Honestly the best way to build a contender is building through the draft.
maybe if you’re in a small market, but every recent champion besides the Spurs (as well as the best team in the NBA now) has been built almost primarily via free agency and trade.

Big Market Teams
Should in theory get the high priced superstars which would lead them to not selecting very high in the draft, this would necessitate continually signing good free agents and hoping to get “draft steals”
Lakers don't count as building through the draft?
Kobe (draft day trade), Bynum, Marc Gasol traded for Pau Gasol.
OKC not champions but a killer team
Denver’s great- Lawson (draft day trade), Nene (draft day trade that killed the Knicks for years)
Bulls- Rose, Noah (draft pick from Knicks), Deng (draft day trade)
Celtics- Pierce and Rondo. Drafted well enough to trade for Allen and Garnett.
Heat- drafted Wade and most of the rest of the team. Wade got his buddies to come.
The Lakers DEFINITELY don't count as one of the teams who build through the draft.
Fish Fingers give me a break.
I think it's impossible to build a contender without drafting ANY of your key pieces.
All of the above teams drafted at least 1-2 of their most important players. I can’t think of any contending team that was built exclusively through throwing max-level money and trade chips at established stars coming from other teams. The Heat are the closest, but they still drafted Wade, and also Wade and LeBron are head and shoulders better than anyone on the Knicks so it’s not really a model we could have emulated.
Oh definitely. I'm not disputing that building through the draft is very important to a team trying to field a championship squad. The economic impact alone of having a drafted superstar you can hang onto at a reduced rate for his first few years is huge.
That’s why I’ll be very interested to see what the Bulls and Thunder do with their squads in the next couple years in terms of how they manage their cap.
I mean luck is a huge part of the draft as well. Exhibit A being the Bulls. Nobody thought Joakim Noah would be as effective as he is, and they had Rose fall right into their lap. Without Rose they’re the Pacers right now. I can’t believe Boston got included in that list as well.
As for the Lakers, they’re the quintessential “Has People Demand To Be Traded To Them” team of the NBA. They’re the only team that can actually claim their market and pedigree attracts players to their team and they are unique in the league in that respect. NY and Chicago have been whiffing in their desired FA’s for almost as long as I’ve been following the sport. FA’s are happy when Cuban signs them, but I can’t remember very many players demanding a trade to that huge market as well. It’s not huge markets. It’s straight cash. Unless you’re the Lakers and you have more chance to pull a Yankees every single off-season.
Fish Fingers give me a break.
Boston still had 2 stars drafted
Every team had 1-2 stars drafted. Knicks are the only ones without any.
I guess, but to laud them for being one of the smarter teams who have built through the draft is a little intellectually dishonest. I mean Pierce and Rondo were drafted years apart, and what pushed them over the hump came via trade.
Fish Fingers give me a break.
It still helped that they drafted well with Rondo and Jefferson
Even if Rondo wasn’t technically their pick. If no Jefferson, no Garnett. And they were smart enough to still have their #5 pick to trade for Allen. They didn’t trade away all their picks.
I just physically cannot bring myself to give Ainge any credit at all for that move. 95% of everything else he's done has been ill-informed.
McHale
Fish Fingers give me a break.
Please, stop it
The team is built, this is the group we are going to war with…
would I have built it different? Completly…but this is the group we have…

How to build a championship, by Chris
1)Pick and Roll combo
a)Guy to lead the PnR, can be a forward or guard, as long as he can facilitate and score
b)Guy to finish the PnR, ideally a center, but just needs to finish strong around the rim
2) 3-3 point shooters, our system requires floor spacing and ball movement, 3 guys who shoot over 40% from beyond the arc is key to this system…it keeps the D honest and frees up the PnR combo

We have been rebuilding for a decade now
Lets see how the team that we currently have built does
by Chris3035 on Jan 18, 2012 4:35 PM EST via mobile reply actions
let's just call prokhorov...
tell him he’s going to lose deron anyway and offer to swap melo for deron now. the russian president is desperate ’cause no one wants to work for him and this way lala gets to stay in NYC.
Why do you want to get rid of Melo?
If anything id want to pair Deron with Melo…
If Dwight Howard and Deron Williams are a “package deal” in 2012, as rumored…
Then we should offer Amare and Chandler for Howard (and Ryan Anderson if possible)…
Then when Deron informs the Magic he wants to play with Dwight…we offer the Nets…Shumpert, Fields, Douglas, Harrellson, Jerome Jordan and Ryan Anderson for Deron…
Deron, Melo, Dwight…
Pipe dream over

okay...
i’ll take your pipe dream… or a deron, amare, tyson pipe dream (running crazy PnR’s allllllll day allllll night)… just not the melo/stat nightmare (alright, a little extreme… but so far it’s been torture).

Give it time
Its not a nightmare
We have 8 brand new players, no offseason, no preseason
I have no choice...
but I sure do wish our losses weren’t as awful as they’ve been. I’m okay with losing while we gel, but it’s HOW we’ve been losing that makes my skeptical.

well...
I am new to posting and toasting
welcome.
now that i got that outta the way.
i will start this off with a word of advice.
its probably not a good idea to have this be ur first post if u intend on being endearing to us.
and now that ive given u advice
i will tip my hatsk u not to wrie something rediculious about a rebuild in the middle of the season (that crazy stuff is offseason only)
and bid u a fare well good sir

lol i know its kinda crazy
but i just figured instead of talking about how bad we have been playing the future wount be awful if we prepare for it the last thing i want is three contracts holding us back if its not gonna work and amare continues to struggle we cant let his value fall further than it is and be left with a mediocre team no picks or young future stars thats a tough spot to be in and that we have been in before im just kinda worried about going through another ten year drought after that long drought you cant help but be alittle paranoid about it happening again but i would like a keep melo and chandler trade amare for pieces if it realistically doesnt work out
You people amaze me….same group who wanted to trade Eli and fire Coughlin…same group who wanted to get rid of Gaborik and fire Torts…
Let our group gel….how long have they been together? Smh, relax
by Chris3035 on Jan 19, 2012 1:00 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
yea, you do.
Eli had the talent, Coughlin the experience to call bullshit on the trading and firing. Same thing with Torts and also Gaborik was incredible his first season here.
This Knicks shit….sigh. I still have all the hope in the world that they turn this around, Baron is our savior, or maybe even getting rid of Pringles and bringing in someone else is the answer…but I dunno. They still remind me of the 2000-2009 NY Knicks. A Clusterfuck.

This is the first post in a while that hasn't been entirely negative and actually radiated some hope.
Welcome back to the team, Rorschach. We all missed you.

we've been shock n awed by displays of awful, slow, selfish basketball...
when we were expecting something wildly different.
one of these days… hope won’t be our only saving grace.

they were rebuilding
then they fucked it up. And by they I mean Dolan
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
I think we were even beyond "rebuilding"...
we were nearly rebuilt. Considering we were on the verge of the playoffs, flexibility was still going to be huge, team was balanced and lovable…. sigh Ok, gotta go get myself a tissue…
If we could get Scola and Lowry for Amar'e, you stop right there.
Lowry-Iman-Melo-Scola-Chandler (with Baron, Landry, TD and Jorts too) is a lot better than our current team IMO. Change the coach to anyone capable of teaching defense and offense and you’re looking at a contender already.
based on the comments, you seem to have made some interesting points
but wow, those were massive run-on sentences.
