Everyone just take a second and relax
All I'm reading is trade him, him and him. We stink etc. But truth is were less then 20 games into the season and we have A LOT of new pieces to the puzzle. Yes we have some obvious problems
1) STAT not playing the way he did
2)Offense not as potent
3)Were losing
But again it's very early and were playing without a PG. I think Barron Davis will make a huge difference. It will allow STAT to be set up and it will take the ball out of Melo's hands for more then 12 seconds. I believe this will solve a lot of problems. I know D'antoni doesn't enforce defense but we really have been playing better on D and that starts with Chandler who i feel has done a great job. Another problem i think we have is in Landry. He's showing more and more why he was a second rounder as sad as it is. I love Landry as much as the Knicks fan but he reallllly looks lost. I think he's "playing" out of position. Landry in college was a scorer and more of the number 1 guy. He's playing to please STAT and Melo and is playing hot potato with the ball. I feel like i would take more shots then him if i was out there. May not go in but would have the balls to shoot. I think when Barron comes back a lineup of Barron, Shump, Melo, STAT, Chandler with landry, DWTDD Harrelson and Walker/ Bibby off the bench would be better. Let Landry play the 3 and this may be the boost he needs to play more like "himself" as he did at Stanford.
But the main purpose of this is to calm down relax and just lets see where it goes. If 15 or so games into the Barron experiment the Knicks are struggling then well come back to the discussion of trading for Nash/Howard/Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan.
****This contradicts everything i just said but ifff we get to the point of talking trades how about STAT, Landry/ Toney picks or whatever for Kevin Love/ Ricky Rubio combo. Not that i want to trade STAT bc of what he did for us but just saying.

i think because we all get frustrated and are tired of losing people start talking trade, etc. this team has changed a lot in such a short period of time and with no training camp, preseason and no point guard, yet we are still 6-7. It’s frustrating and I think it sucks more because it isn’t pretty basketball but I still believe things will work out and I am glad us fans are not in charge of the team or else it be a disaster. Let’s see after 30 games and when Baron joins the team. let’s see how things go and where we are at come march and april. I say patience is the key to this.
Your post is as sensible
as your trade prospect is ridiculous.
The Wolves have waited two years for Rubio, and it’s finally playing dividends. He’s the hottest young point guard in the league. And Love is a young player that’s playing like an MVP right now. Meanwhile, Stoudemire is playing like crap, looking a step slow as he approaches 30, and Landry Fields is looking like a flash in the pan, and Toney Douglas has proven he’s not a point guard, is submarining his reputation as a great defender, and is shooting like crap.
Even considering Khan!‘s general lunacy, this is one of the most ridiculous trade proposals I’ve ever heard! But I got a laugh about it!
Get The Frickin' Rebound
that was just a throw into the post
The other stuff is how i personally feel about the situation

Who's your new college team - cuz, y'know, we suck:(

Really Missing Birchm <may’ve mispelled…
I haven't followed college ball, but I've always liked Baylor under Scott Drew
so, great to see them doing well and I’ll be rooting for them in the tourney.
re: Pitt it’s an incredibly bad look to see our only elite recruit of the Dixon era be advised by agents to leave during his freshman season. The program is destined to remain a “scrappy underdog” media darling but will never compete until it gets serious and plays dirty* like all powerhouses in the abomination that is the NCAA… if you want to make a moral stance, shut down the program or move it out of NCAA D1 competition, otherwise do it the way all successful programs do it, by cheating.
And honestly, the fanbase itself irritates me; it’s constantly stuck between an appreciation of Dixon’s hardworking, non-flashy, egoless ragtag groups of players and appalled shock when we inevitably lose to more talented teams in the tourney. It’s not the 1970s, grow up.
*we could use Durand Scott right now couldn’t we? he was ready to sign with Pitt, but Haith stole him with a dufflebag of money… someone in the Pitt program told me that in 2009 and the allegations out of Miami certainly support it
TYBG
There is no way the Wolves make that trade...
You just got Tysoned!!!!!!
Some folks around here have been calling for Amare to be traded, but you don't really mean that.
It’s true, Amare is playing horrible right now, and I wish I knew why. Point guard or no point guard, he’s been committing foolish fouls and clanging open jumpers that he used to hit in his sleep last year (and previous years in Phoenix).
But I think it’s impossible for a player who has been consistently great (at least on offense) for his entire career to magically start sucking and forget how to play basketball. This isn’t Space Jam here, people.
Amare isn’t injured. Just look at that dunk he put down on Glen Davis’ head last game. The man has been one of the better power forward’s in the game for most of the last decade. I don’t know why he’s sucking right now, but I do know that it can’t last much longer.
Dirt strong, son.

There have been multiple explanations as to why he's playing bad
The Knicks aren’t running the kinds of plays where he excels, or giving him the ball where he excels. Due to the struggles of the other Knicks, defenders can easily sag off them and double Amar’e and Melo. Mystery solved.
beating a dead horse but....he needs a creative passer to get him the ball
because as we all know, he dribbles like Stanley Hudson when trying to create for himself, and is a charging machine. Tyson is now the primary pick setter and roller at the 5, which is what Amar’e was most of last year with Felton and Billups getting him the ball. Also, I don’t know what he was doing over the summer (rehabbing his back?) because his shot is totally rusty. He can’t call himself a stretch 4 when he can’t make open shots and has taken only a handful of threes all year.

No to the trade
The Knicks need
1) our 3 point shots to start falling, we live by the 3 and die by the 3
2) Melo running the PnR with Chandler is fine by me, Amare has to become more of a stretch 4
3) no to that trade, but what about Landry Fields for Anthony Morrow?

no to that trade.
but what about landry fields for a different shitty player?
on a lighter note, ur right on 1.
on 2, i’d prefer to get stat more involved in the O and chandler less

The only reason I say Fields for Morrow is…
1) Morrow is a premier 3 point shooter
2)The Nets have Brooks at SG and need a SF
…as far getting Stat more involved in the O and less Chandler, normally id agree, no doubt Stat is the premier finisher in the NBA, but…
Our offensive system requires a pick and roll combo with 3 shooters spaced out…Chandler is no threat shooting the ball, Amare is…Chandler can be a PnR finisher however…
So its more about properly implementing our system than anything else

Landry Fields
is possibly the worst starting shooting guard in the league.
y u say that?
plus i’d call him a Passing guard Not shooting guard he never shoots
he could care less about stats, he isnt flashy or anything. but he is one of the better team players around.

calling a guy with 2.7 apg a passing guard?
I guess he is when you compare him to the Fields that averaged 1.9 apg last season
2012 New York Mets, World Series Champions!
well thats looking at the stats
he passes to the assist a lot, and he is very talented at throwing up the alley-oop and what not.
he’s a team player.
so looking at the stats will do him no justice.
only watching him play

ok this is my first knicks comment on here, i love this team
but am i the only who thinks shumpert is the cancer. or am i the only knicks fan in this planet who believes that?

riiiiiiiight
tons of energy and great defense is the cancer to this team
2012 New York Mets, World Series Champions!
think about it though
dont you feel that said ROOKIE is taking away from VETERAN like Amare… i notice that Shumpert is shooting more and more even during important times and Amare has only attempted more than 20 FG 3 times this year…. Shumpert also runs full court alone and just shoots. doesnt run plays and doesnt dish to the open man, or give the ball to Melo when he asks for it. You may not agree, but take it into consideration next time you watch the Knicks play. Shumpert is high energy but low FG% horrible shot selection. Is that really the type of energy we want? SHUMPERT IS NOT THE PLAYER HE IS TRYING TO BE.
Success is not measuredby what you accomplish, but by the opposition you have encountered, and the courage with which you have maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds...

Relax he is a rookie
Even good rookies are usually equal parts brilliance and boneheadedness. That is why Mike must really be desparate starting a rookie, because Shumpert is talented and will do three things a game to give you an absolue boner, but he will also do things that will make a coach want to choke the shit out of him. Just the nature of the beast folks. Rookies!
by Robert Curre on Jan 19, 2012 2:33 PM EST up reply actions
best sign that shump is the least of our problems...
is that he is CLEARLY reflecting on his game and how it impacts wins and losses… which is more than i can say for other guys. after his chuckfest, he is clearly more conscious of shot selection and moving the ball with more pace. he’ll find a balance because he cares to find a balance….

idk ill see
but to say give a rookie time is kind of ridiculous especially when you have Class A basketball players in Amare and Melo… I cant imagine a rookie in the Miami Heat taking more shots than Lebron Wade or Bosh. And still be ok with it, bc he will potentially get good…. see what im saying?

i do...
but he’s already shown that he’s learned from that game… and everyone was sucking that game and the kid tried to add offense where there wasn’t any. a case of too much too soon.

i dont have a problem with good offense
i hope i wasnt the only one to notice at the last shot air ball. from my own breadown…. D’antoni was speaking to Melo while Nash was shooting Freethrows, obvs telling him the play. Shumpert as PG takes the ball upcourt and runs as fast as he could get to the 3 line with 2.6 secs left and shoots with very strong defense on him. On the other side you have Amare with his hands stretched in confusioin, melo running up court not far behind stops to watch shakes his head and Dantoni with a bewildered face. My thought immidiately that was not the play spoken just another case of, “its on me imma do this, imma be the hero” with Melo on this team? and Amare as well? those are the shots i dont like. forcing and bad shot selection

a 20 year old rookie is the cancer? Or could it be that guy that’s always posting up, demanding the ball and jacking up shot?

Melo is injured, but no excuse of course
at the same time hes proven and a elite player. but my point is still when melo is on hes on, but amare has yet to find his grove bc his offensive role has decreased. while Shumpert shoots more

really? even though Tyson
averages 10 points and has yet to hit double digit field goal attempts??
i mean take a look at chaunceys averages and compare to Iman, they are basically the same except for of course FG% and assist numbers and PPG. same minutes same FGA same everything but those numbers. Iman doesnt pass the ball around and doesnt create plays he seriously goes up the court and chucks. I dont know how and why thats ok…. i missed the announcement where he is the Knicks savior.

no.
i can see where u may get that from
he isnt a cancer or anything close to that. he did have one game where he took way to many shots.
and the last game against pheonix where the ball was in his hands when it shoulda been in melo’s or amare’s.
but he brings great D and some good 3pt shooting. he takes it to the rim, and has shown signs of star pottential.
if the knicks use him as more of a SG as his career progresses on, then he could be the next elite SG outta this class.
a rookie making rookie mistakes wouldnt be classified as a cancer imo

Fields is shooting about 43% from the field, probably a higher shooting
% than either Melo or Amare who take a lot more shots, a whole lot more shots.
He also has fewer turnovers than Amare, Melo, or Shumpert.
If a guy has a higher shooting % and fewer turnovers, it’s hard to make your case
Inflated numbers
42% from the field and 21% from 3 meaning he can’t shoot. I’m sure his layup percentage is great, which is not really what you care about for a shooting guard. Melo is shooting 41% while taking much tougher shots than Field’s wide open three point air balls.
He has fewer turnovers likely due to playing less minutes with a lower usage rate. He still turns over the rock 1.9 times per game compared to his pedestrian 2.7 assists per game. Unless you’re going to use the whole “intangibles” aspect of his game (which I wouldn’t do because his +/- this year has been awful) he doesn’t really bring any redeeming quality to our starting line up. We’d honestly be better off starting Billy Walker or Toney Douglas in the shooting guard position. When Davis comes back I hope Shump moves to the SG and Davis runs the point. We can’t sit through a full season of 32mpg of 4pts 5rebs 2ast and 2to from our starting SG and expect to win games.
sample size is too small. Also his 3pt% is really more of a fact that he gets fewer quality looks
from down town and fewer looks in rhythm. GEt him better shots and more involved in the offense to develop rhythm and his percentage will go up. using his stats after 14 games is like saying Ichiro when he was hitting .215 in April is the worst hitting outfielder in the league.
And by the way we won 42 games last season with Dude having nights just like the one you described. So relax a little.

I'm in the minority...
but I really don’t think Baron is going to be our miracle cure. Yes, a lot of times we’re forcing shots up after bad offensive sets and a pure PG would fix that. But we’re bricking even our open shots. Who should we have confidence in to suddenly start shooting so much better from the 3-pt line? I can’t really think of anyone.
Baron will be a step in the right direction and I SO hope he shoots from the outside as well as he did last year (well above his career avg), but until we find ourselves a shooter, the middle will still be so clogged that Amare and Melo will still find drives difficult.
If Baron can control the offense and get us into a rhythm and flow
alot of shots will start falling…big if of course. Getting in their spots with their feet set would help alot. I like Iman’s shooting when he’s set but not when he’s moving unless it’s a layup, same with Fields. Biggest issue is Fields and then Harrellson. Both can hit and it’s nice seeing Landry gaining confidence and scoring, but even set, his 3 pt shot is off still, especially from the corner and in front of the benches. I think he’s thinking too much in those spots. Melo can hit from up top but needs to make quicker decisions. Harrellson just needs time and experience and repetition. TD I just don’t know. I think the dude needs to stay healthy and confident and less time thinking about being a playmaker and just make plays scoring off guys like Shump and Davis. We’re 6-8 and could easily be 8-6 even 9-5 if guys played smarter and not harder, not trying to force things, which we’re doing alot. We’re not consistently on the same page. Landry and Shump from last night doing the same the 2 previous games would probably = 2 wins not losses. Unfortunately last night Amar’e and Melo were forcing alot and didn’t end well.
The worry is that the teams we're losing the close games to...
are the poor teams we should easily beat. We’re getting blown out rather consistently against the better teams. Shifting that a little bit, if we eventually manage to mostly beat the poorer teams and lose closer games to the good teams… it still doesn’t get us where we want to be or should be.
So I hear ya about Baron creating some differences that will make us better… we’ll DEFINITELY be better with him. I’m just not sure it’ll be enough of a shift.
there is no miracle cure here
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
if melo reflects...
and evolves into a team first player, we have a chance. guys defer to him because he’s melo. they’re thinking too much and not just playing… because they’re on a team with melo… their confidence is shot… because melo keeps shooting.
i don’t think melo is a bad dude or a bad player… he’s just not leading, not buying into the coaching or the system… and as melo, he needs to not just talk, he needs to walk (actually run… like without the ball).
