DeMarcus Cousins?

So i'm sure everyones well aware of the whole DeMarcus Cousins wanting a "Trade" out of sacramento. It seems as if the kings would do perfectly fine without him (seeing as how they beat the Hornets), How do you guys feel about him? I wouldn't mind a trade for him if the price is right...i mean i'm personally sick and tired of seeing Jared Jeffries face. Maybe a new team like the Knicks would give Cousins a new mentality and he'd be great behind Tyson? Btw if we were to trade for him, what would we have to give up?

There comes a point in almost every NBA prospect's career

When they encounter a situation in which they are no longer able to dominate a basketball game easily. It is how they handle this scenario which truly determines whether they will be a successful NBA player who can help his team win.

To me, Cousins appears to be blaming the coaching staff and Kings management for his inability to dominate, when he should be looking for ways to use the skills he does have to help his team win basketball games, while working on refining those skills.

It’s a red flag.

It’s possible that Cousins can adjust to the NBA, but early indications are that he will not. With Chandler, Amar’e, and Jorts (a guy who seems to understand how to use his skills), I think the Knicks are not in a position where they have to take a risk on a guy like this.

i completely agree

i will point out tho, the only way this team gets young talent is on cheap contracts. our biggest contract guy we can really chance to trade is balkman.

Absolutely no way

First of all, one game against a terrible New Orleans team should not be an indicator of how well Sacramento can play without Cousins. No doubt he’s talented, and having him back-up Tyson Chandler would be very nice. But he wouldn’t really fill a need on this team, and I don’t think he’d be worth the players/picks we’d be giving up. It wouldn’t be a Jeffries for Cousins swap, that’s for sure.

I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious.

He has the talent and shouldn't be a backup where he was drafted anyway, but emotionally he's a train wreck right now

New Orleans couldn’t hit anything in the 2nd half but Sacramento was a whole lot more fun to watch in the 2nd half than they were against us. Their front court didn’t score too much either. They need him. But they need him to be thinking about the team, not himself. He looked bad against us and let it show in his actions/reactions. He still had 11 boards and if his shot wasn’t falling, deferred elsewhere, which he’s capable of (had 4 assists against us), but chose to pout most of the time. We don’t need him, but they do. They gotta work it out

by screamedia on Jan 2, 2012 2:03 PM EST up reply actions

Why?

He is talented but doesn’t really fit a need right now besides maybe scoring off the bench or backing up STAT. Harellson (who btw is much cheaper) just went mano y mano with him and just about matched his averages while shutting him down. So do we really need him? No. Will he be down with being a bench role player? I dunno and his temperamental attitude doesn’t suggest he would despite him being a talented commodity.

Also whether or not we wanted him, teams that did need him and were interested have more options and talent available to obtain him.

In a nutshell…too much risk for too little reward.

if he was basically given to use i wouldn't take him

simply because there is no way he is starting on our squad and he is mad now, imagine if he was coming off the bench.

by THR1LLHOUSE on Jan 2, 2012 3:25 PM EST reply actions

The guy just isn't worth it

He’s got the talent, but I don’t think he’ll ever really get it together.

It’d be nice if he would though.

by JWurm on Jan 2, 2012 3:35 PM EST reply actions

i would love to have him

honestly. but we dont have the right pieces for him and i dont think its worth adding more to his mix at this point.

not going to happen, but why the heck not?

like it or not, he could be THE BEST OFFENSIVE CENTER IN THE LEAGUE in four years or less. this is a guy who could completely dominate the most important position on the floor, and he could do it in an era so hilariously devoid of post players. he might be a clown, and he might never work hard enough to live up to his potential, but if we have an opportunity to get him it would be foolish not to, if for no other reason than the fact that there will always be other teams willing to try him out.

the worst that happens is he rides the pine until we trade him for something we actually need. the best that happens is we have one of a handful of talented low post players for the rest of the decade.

C'mon Frilly, he hasn't learned the word team yet

He’d end up on the bench or on to the next team that thinks he can beast for them. Until he changes his tude he’s just a pipe dream

you think he wouldnt enjoy hanging with

stat, melo and ty on the court?

this is not like sac town. he would behave.

if we had chips to trade

it would be worth the chance.

but we dont, so its all moot.

Plus, You guys'll wanna choke me, I'd switch out Baron for Amar'e

I don’t see Amar’e showing great leadership right now. I see him talk in front cams and mics, but when I’m talking floor leaders, I’m looking at guys like Tyson and Baron, in your ear and pointing and teaching. I don’t see that from Amar’e. Maybe in practice, but not in-game.

by screamedia on Jan 2, 2012 5:22 PM EST up reply actions

Certainly

I mean, that’s what point guards do. Some big men might do it, but it’s the point guard’s job. The Knicks have a past-his-prime combo guard and an undersized shooting guard running the point and the floor leadership on the offensive end is pitiful. Amar’e is great but he’s not as essential right now.

yeah, but i'm saying, if we could trade some deadweight for him it would be literally a no risk/extremely high situation!

this team is not a championship team right now no matter how you slice it, and if he sat on the bench quietly for the next four months would that really be so terrible?

by frilly on Jan 2, 2012 7:12 PM EST up reply actions

I see whatcha mean, but would he sit on the bench? Happily?

I’’m sure this would be a different situation here coaching wise, but he also most def would get burn but not start

by screamedia on Jan 2, 2012 7:36 PM EST up reply actions

You guys are hilarious, who the hell would we trade?

Teams don’t just give away a high lotto pick in his second season for nothing. Dude had a decent rookie season and has All-NBA potential. He’d have to be an actual serial killer for some other team not to blow any offer we make out of the water.

anyone on the trade block

lets trade for him. I dunno what we trade, given the fact we have jack shit on the roster…but lets trade.

Get Him Damn Right

I have said it since he entered the draft.
The Nets screwed up by passing on him for D.Favors.
That was a big mistake.
The guy has the talent and plays with heart like C.Barkley.
The only difference is he is 6/11-260 and Chucky was 6/5-240

this would never work

demarcus is an intriguing prospect, but probably a head case along the lines of derrick coleman, and maybe just a more skilled version of eddy curry.

he needs to learn the discipline to avoid fights with teammates, as well as bad shots, unnecessary fouls and turnovers. do you see that happening in mike d’antoni’s system? he’ll be chucking any 3 he feels like taking. and that’s nothing against MDA, it’s just that he didn’t play anthony randolph because he couldn’t fit into this system, and demarcus won’t either.

i think demarcus needs someone like popovich that won’t take any shit from him. the kings have let him run amok & they’re putting the brakes on too late.

i feel bad for the guy in a way, though his problems are mostly his own making— he’s playing for a bad team with an awful coach & a roster with no PG to get him the ball in good spots. imagine the worst quarter we’ve played all year, & that’s sacramento all the time.

It's quite likely that Mike D'Antoni will accomplish something that Don Chaney, Lenny Wilkens, Herb Williams, Larry Brown, and Isiah Thomas couldn't do: Win a playoff game. So, obviously, small ball doesn't work.

by crazyeyes on Jan 4, 2012 10:06 AM EST reply actions

Your Coleman Analogy was a bad one

Coleman was apathetic regarding whether he team won or lost and only cared about his personal stats and his paycheck, but before injuries robbed him of his explosiveness Coleman was a beast in his early days with the Nets, basically a 20 and 10 machine. So saying he is Coleman is not as bad as you want it to be. Also Cousins is immature not apathetic. You can see the Kid wants to win. Coleman didn’t care if his team won or lost just as long as he got his and his money was right. That is not an assumption Coleman straight up said so. I said before Coleman because he is black and more arrogant about it got raped in the New York media for doing the same stuff David Lee did when he was here. Nets get beat by 25 points Coleman “Hey I scored 32 points and had 15 rebs so don’t ask me why we lost, talk to them other dudes.” Knicks get beat by 27 points “yeah sucks we lost but I got a triple double.” yet damn near every Knicks fan would take Lee back. So really being a selfish stat hog looking to get overpaid is not that bad.

what i meant

very talented and not likely to ever make full use of his talents, because of his mental issues. sorry it wasn’t a perfect parallel. not that coleman / lee was either.

Its not an unreasonable idea to trade for Cousins.

The question is will his red flags (and there are many) follow him to another team?

There is no question the guy is extremely talented and has the chops to be a terrific player for many years. No one disputes this and it’s entirely why the Kings haven’t made a decision about him yet.

As good as he is (or should develop to be), is it worth it to bring a player who came into the league feeling entitled and who has consistently made poor decisions and who whos all of the signs of a major headache.
We knew about his immaturity during his ONE year of school and we saw it in his rookie year when he whined about not getting the ball at the end of the game. We saw it continue with moaning abut playing time and his body language and the arguing with coaches. This was his rookie year!!! A college sophmore aged player ordering his “teachers” around. What his this kid done to earn that sort of moxy?!

I’m only surprised in how quickly this has come to the forefront of the Kings. They aren’t waiting to get burned. They recognize the situation and have thusfar taken the coaches side over the players. I actually appreciate that.

I’m not so convinced that Amar’e Stoudemire or Carmelo Anthony or Tyson Chandler could get through to this kid. Can you imagine that?! Clearly the dude needs a legit veteran star to bring him down to Earth. On second thought I can’t imagine a kid mouthing off to both A’m’a’r’e’ and Chandler. Thats a fight he would lose in a hurry. I’m actually rooting for someone to deck Cousins when he mouths off.

Kids these days…. think they know everything don’t they.

of course, and hour after I post this comment, the Kings fucking fire Westphal.

Granted they look lost, but this simply reinforces to players that they don’t have to listen to their coach. They can just go over his head and the front office will most likely oblige.

Stupid.
