Typical

start out ok, play awful, play well enough to make it close, play bad, then bring it to within one point then lose. yay

Awful!!!

Our bench sucks. Bad.

by robk on Jan 2, 2012 10:11 PM EST via mobile reply actions

True but...

Wait until our bench has Jorts, Shump, Toney/Fields, Jeffries, instead of 2 of those guys starting and two hurt.

Things will get better, it’s still a long season.

Straight from Clyde: "Frustrating, Debilitating, and Devastating".

Melo caught a bad case of the chucks, bench left their game in Sacramento, as always they struggle late but fall short.

Mike Bibby is the worst defender I've ever seen

We would’ve won the game if he didn’t step onto the court

The Knicks are just a bad basketball team right now almost in every facet of the game

They can’t force turnovers, they jump around like chickens with their heads cut off on defense, they get burnt by the exact same play 5 or 6 times in a row, no fluidity on offense, and overall undisciplined on each side of the ball. Good thing we are just 5 games into the season.

Seemed like video game basketball to me..

Run the little guy up the floor and shoot the 3 with him, especially if he is supposedly a 3 point shooter. Regardless..

If the Knicks lead the league in free throws attempted, I say keep trying more stuff inside and only shoot 3’s when the shot is there. No more settling. sigh I didn’t know there was a game on tonight.. I should have remained ignorant. (Nah, I will watch win lose or draw.)

Where is _’antoni and his post game report thing?

Did this dude just did this?

Yup

This loss wasn’t even upsetting, really. No Amar’e, no bench. Realistically, outside of TD, nobody else can be counted on to help out Melo with scoring.

Tyson’s never been a scorer; that 22 point game was a complete admiration, Bully is inconsistent and kinda idiotic, Jorts is a 2nd round rookie, Fields is nice, but not somebody who’s gonna score much over 10 points.

Melo was kind of infuriating, but really, who was supposed to step up? We ARE, in fact, playing without Amar’e

How many championship contenders

Lose to Toronto, their second game of a back to back btw, at home of all things.

Knicks are second least consistent team in the league.

Hawks

Its always the Hawks. And yet, at the same time, its never the Hawks because that is how inconsistent they are.

by Mikel L on Jan 2, 2012 10:30 PM EST up reply actions   2 recs

You could argue the Hawks are the most consistent team in the league

They’ll come in and impress everybody to start the season, and then go back to being the consistently inconsistent Hawks, which is a mid-seed playoff team that will lose in the 2nd round

We lost without 3 rotation players (BD, Amare, Shump)

So we shouldnt get all that stressed about it. Having said that, I think Billy Walker shouldn’t get minutes anymore. He consistently plays lazy and gives up on defense way too easily. Giving him minutes sends the wrong message to the rest of the team.

by sisterray24 on Jan 3, 2012 12:46 AM EST up reply actions

Things will get better, we are playing with half a team right now.

Mike Bibby should not be allowed on the court under any circumstance. Jerome Jordan is very bad. Novak should do nothing but shoot 3s. Bill Walker just needs to focus and concentrate. Lin is definitely not an answer to any of our problems. Was hoping to see Humpty but looks like he’s bombed his way out of the rotation…

Why the f___ did we not bring Carter back instead of Bibby? He’s way more serviceable.

by robk on Jan 2, 2012 10:43 PM EST reply actions

Of course Lin wouldn't be an answer...

He’s only played garbage minutes. No one has seen him play in actual minutes.
Also, he’s barely played in any games.
Think of all the minutes we’ve given Douglas to play in order for him to develop these past few years…if we haven’t given that many minutes to Douglas, he would be in the same hole too.

by CookieOs on Jan 2, 2012 10:51 PM EST up reply actions

I agree...

But I think the limited amount we’ve seen hasn’t shown much promise. At best he needs a lot of work before he’s even a rotation player. Jerome Jordan may have more promise but he seemed really in effective tonight. Novak is great when he’s shooting threes. Bill Walker just always seems to make a stupid play at the worst time with his unbridled enthusiasm.

Didn’t mean to be so harsh in the initial post but Bibby has just been awful everytime he’s stepped on the floor.

by robk on Jan 2, 2012 11:04 PM EST up reply actions

Actually, totally agreed with your post

and the fact that we should’ve gotten Anthony Carter back instead. Although Carter isn’t that “amazing”, he was consistently a good defensive player and has made some great steals last season.

by CookieOs on Jan 2, 2012 11:09 PM EST up reply actions

yeah, well...

TD was consistently inconsistent, but at least he helped us crawl back in the second half. Chandler does what he needs to do, altering shots and getting to the line. Btw, he’s been getting his double digit rebounds, but i feel like they have him playing way too far from the rim for an “enforcer” type. Landry comes and goes, but does some of the little things you need. Melo didnt have much support otherwise. Our bench is playing beyond terrible and Jorts had an off game, especially with his shot selection. I cant wait until Shump gets back, for that second team energy offensively and defensively. And of course we need biddy. Till then, i think maybe Lin should help get those nerves settled by playing more than 3 minutes. Trying to win a roster spot in the time it takes for me to stop sneezing, youre forcing the kid to try to do too much. Nothing could really be worse than what bibby is offering us, and im not even a bibby hater either

This is a mediocre, borderline bad team.

The same problems from last year are showing up again. Bad shot selection, poor rebounding, and half assed defense is what is leading to these losses. Everybody keeps saying the season is still early and they’ll gel, but what happens if they don’t? Our hopes are resting on a 32 year old Baron Davis with back problems? What happened to the best front court in the NBA with Melo as point forward? Stat and Melo can score at will, but don’t put in the effort on D. And now they both have become chuckers which is rubbing off on everybody. at this rate, we won’t have to worry about winning a playoff round because they won’t be in the playoffs.

D'Antoni the Offensive Guru?

Ok, agreed, without Amare, Shump, and the guy who is obviously the key to our whole season, like it or not, BDiddy, you can’t put too much weight on this loss BUT …

Am I the only one who’s SICK of D’Antoni, the offensive genius? He’s the offensive coach guru like Schottenheimer is for the Jets! What the heck was that offense the Knicks were running tonight? Step over halfcourt and first guy with an open look from anywhere past the 3 point line chuck it up? WTF?!?

On any level, back to elementary school, that I’ve played Bball on – you had plays you ran to hit cutters going to the hoop, pound the ball inside, swing the ball and set picks. At least try to run some plays.

D’Antoni’s post-game press conf, typical aw shucks goofball we’ll just keep trying to get better bs … True, it’s still like pre-season, but c’mon dude, been hearing that for how many years now?

TD is good for instant O off the bench. He is obviously not a PG. Been watching my boy Felton on the DirectTV NBA PASS free preview, and man
I miss that guy a lot. We didn’t need to give him up in the Melo deal. Donnie was playing his Holdem hand just right, and Dolan came in last minute and said “All-in”. Moron.

Raptors shot lights out tonight, just one of those nights in the NBA, but I want to see some semblance of Pro Bball on O. The D is improving.

Doesn’t have to be Clyde and the 1970/73 Knicks, but al least try.

by irishnyer on Jan 2, 2012 11:08 PM EST reply actions   1 recs

D'Antoni can only work with what he's given

I’m not sure what you’re hoping to see out of this team. We only have one player capable of reliably creating shots for himself or others, and he also happens to be the team’s only reliable post presence.

I really like D’Antoni but unfortunately I think he will be gone after this season. He’ll end up being the scapegoat for a team that just isn’t that good.

Oh Really

What have you been watching for the last four years?
The guy cannot coach game decisions very well.

I always said he would be a great college coach with his B.S. system.
Now I am saying he could go even lower and coach in the Rucker Park League unitl he is ready to retire.

Let’s keep our fingers cross that he is gone sooon.

by Dziedzic on Jan 3, 2012 11:28 AM EST up reply actions

Hey, we started poorly last year too.

So while this rightfully feels terrible, it’s not the end of the world. It looks like we are going to be a .500 team either until Baron Davis and co. are healthy, or the team comes together on-court chemistry wise. The good news so far has been that we have held our opponents under 100 points 4 out of 5 games (80%), as opposed to 24 out of 82 games last year(29.3%). Of course it’s a small sample size, and of course a slower pace has a lot to do with that, but it’s nice knowing that we don’t have to score 30 points a quarter to win anymore. Once the offense is more in sync, we will be really dangerous, which makes me think point guard will be the make or break position for us this year (captain obvious)

by Jeff Van Gumby on Jan 2, 2012 11:18 PM EST reply actions

Bye-Bye-D'Antoni!

I really feel that D’Antoni with his staff of coaching clowns are going to gone soon.
I feel it and also very much wish it.
To loose to a sad organization like the Toronto Raptors is very sad and pathetic.

by Dziedzic on Jan 2, 2012 11:48 PM EST reply actions

I will bet every dollar I have that D'Antoni isn't fired this season

He’ll get a full season of Melo & Amare before they reassess anything. Every team, no matter how good they are, “looses” to a sad organization a few times a season. No need to get your panties in a bunch.

Now let’s get one thing straight I am a fan whom demands wins and good play towards wins.
With your attitude you to can go root for the Timberwolves like a few of our other sad low expectation fans.
Now listen up D’Antoni and whole staff are going to be gone soon.
Don’t let the door hit them on the way out.
Even trading Stoudemire when healthy is not a bad idea and can possibly could happen.
How about Stoudemire and Landry for Love? Stoudemire Ffor P.Gasol?

by Dziedzic on Jan 3, 2012 11:25 AM EST up reply actions

Whoa guys

I just got back from the game. Maybe it’s just me, but I actually can’t get too crazy about this one. Toronto made a bunch of contested 3s, we missed some wide open ones, plus an array of shots inside. Did we take too many long range shots? Probably, yeah. Toney in particular nullifies every one of his hot spurts with some follow up irrational exuberance. Melo obviously forced a few shots, and Landry took at least one jumper I can remember that made no sense to take – contested, not in rhythm.

But on the other hand, a lot of the perimeter shots we missed, I want taken. Jorts’ confidence isn’t there yet, but when he’s open, I want him to take it. Same with Landry and Novak. I was glad to see that we looked to get it to Chandler in the post – a lot of the lobs just went awry. That’s OK. That’s something they can work on. At least the intent was there.

It also looked to me like the effort was there on the defensive end. Yes, we still double and switch too easily and leave guys open with easy shots, but generally it looked like we were fighting.

At the end of the day, in a game where we just missed shots and had a bunch of rotation players injured, to be down a point with less than a minute to go is not cause for alarm. Melo’s not going to have too many 13-31 nights. Landry isn’t going to go 1-7 very often either. It’s still early. We’ll be OK.

by robk on Jan 3, 2012 10:00 AM EST up reply actions

I absolutely do no care about these individual game results so early in this unique season. I mean there is always something that your going to find of which to exalt after a win and of which to crow after a loss. In the overall scheme it means NOTHING.

Last year with full training camp and pre-season the Heat were 7-7 and the Knicks were 3-11 after 14 games.

Can we show some perspective here?
Keys to Knicks success:

1)More games with Amare and Melo on floor together.
2)Healthy Baron Davis by no later than early Feb.
3)Shumpert replacing Fields on the perimeter and and making it uncomfortable, impossible and confusing for the opposition stop-and poppers.

Beyond this, every adversity has the seed of an equivalent or greater benefit. Getting use to playing without your best players….is a good thing, because you may not have them at the most inopportune moments.

The New Orleans Saints won the Superbowl because their rallying cry was “Who dat”
The New York Knicks rallying cry should be “Belie Dat!”
