Gallinari 4 year, $42 M extension
I don't think he's coming back any time soon.
If you read the comments, instead of anything discussing Gallinari or the deal, you can see a bunch of jokes about Carmelo and the Knicks. Most of them center around how their deals could have gotten better players and how management is idiotic. Also, that the Knicks need a defensive-minded coach. Obviously most people don't realize you need the right personnel for that.
It's interesting that Bargnani and Gallinari both made leaps this year to all-star caliber. I can only have one poll, so which would you prefer?

If he received that much....
the Knicks would have lost him anyway. No way the Knicks would have shelled out 11 million per year for four.
Denver probably overpaid
I say that because, it is unlikely he would have gotten an offer that high from any other team under the cap this off-season. But I do believe they were smart to sign them, he fits what they do on offense very well.
Yo, $10mil/year for 4 years?! That is a steal considering this is a league where
Carmelo Anthony – will be making $23 mil in 2015
Rudy Gay – will be making $19 mil in 2015
Luol Deng – will be making $14 mil in 2014
Danny Granger – will be making $14 mil in 2014
Corey Magette – will be making $11 mil in 2013

offensively, he's pretty much exactly where Dirk was at 23
defensively, he needs to add a few more rebounds, except he’s playing farther from the basket so it’s tough.
Salary aside
He is already better than everyone on that list except Melo. And honestly, at literally half the price, I would take him over Melo any day.
I'd mostly agree
Although I think Rudy Gay is an excellent player…

Definitely not, Rudy Gay is crazy overrated and overpaid
He is nothing but an average small forward who takes a lot of shots. I assure you if Gallo took 16+ shots per game like Gay, he’d crack 20ppg easily.
it really depends on the teams
Overall, I’d take Gallinari over most of them, but he’s not as good at dribbling or playing like a guard. He’s more of a SF/PF who doesn’t rebound than a SG/SF. If Gallinari was on a team without a good PG, I might consider Granger or Carmelo or Gay, but probably just Carmelo. Granger and Gay are guys who get overrated because they score many points but inefficiently. When they’ve been hurt, it’s pretty clear their teams don’t miss them.
Fair enough
But if Gallo sustains the passing/turnover numbers he’s put up so far this year (a big if… but it certainly looks like he’s making a leap) he’s at least as good playmaker at SF as Gay or Granger. And also wildly more efficient at scoring and a better defender, and younger, and taller…
Don't worry, the Knicks will find a way to bring him back
when he’s 34, fat, and balding with more kids than Shawn Kemp. Probably on a long term deal.
Flossy, no joke, I can totally see that happening
It would be sticking right with the Knicks history and if there was a way to place a bet on it, then I would !!

you know that can never happen to Danilo
more likely, he’ll be slow, bad back, and 3 kids from supermodels
well... you know... Kim Kardashian is single again...
Maybe we can enlist E! to try and recruit him again for the next spinoff?
Afterall… dude has his own money now and doesn’t have to spend hers, lol!

I'm happy for Ill Gallo!
I think this is a shrewd deal for Denver too. They lock up Gallo at a price that looks high now, but will probably be a below-market value in 2 years. It’s not an unreasonable amount either. And the length isn’t so long as to handcuff them for very long. What is Gallo, 23? So in 4 years he’s a FA at 27? He scores big money now and will be young enough to score an even bigger deal when this one expires.
This is assuming he continues to improve, which I am pretty confident he will. Smart move by Denver to lock up a core guy in a way that says “We believe you are going to become very good and we want you in Denver.” I like when teams extend their own guys without waiting for their contract to actually run out in the offseason.

If he could just rebound 10 a game he'd be a max player
I don’t understand why he doesn’t, since Troy Murphy was able to do it while older and terrible at defense.
rebounding seems to be an innate ability— you either have a feel for where the ball is going to end up, and the hustle to get there, or you don’t. most guys don’t change too much over their careers— i remember reading somewhere that rebounds-per-minute is one of the most stable year-to-year statistics.
murphy was an elite rebounder for a few years. he’s got an inch and a wider ass on gallo, which isn’t much, so i’d guess that gallo is not destined to ever collect more than about 8 boards per 48.
consider also eddy curry & charles oakley. physically, what’s the difference? curry’s fatter and 2-3 inches taller, both couldn’t jump over a crack in the sidewalk. oakley was good-to-great on the boards, & curry got hit in the hands by a carom once in awhile.
i miss gallo. he was a good shooter, did a bunch of little things well, and played with a lot of heart for a jump-shooting euro. had it been possible to keep him, he would have been a great 6th man on the current team.
It's quite likely that Mike D'Antoni will accomplish something that Don Chaney, Lenny Wilkens, Herb Williams, Larry Brown, and Isiah Thomas couldn't do: Win a playoff game. So, obviously, small ball doesn't work.
No one asked So I am going to
So does this mean the Wilson ChandlaaH will be available when he returns from China? In theory they play the same position so would they cut Wil loose?
Word in Denver is that Masaii and Chandler's representatives have been talking,
but it’s still quite up in the air. Also, I’m not sure what his status will be in regards to restricted/unrestricted if he doesn’t sign this year. I’m not a CBA maestro, and it’s unclear whether Denver would retain his rights in that situation
He's restricted and Denver would still hold his rights
Like when Josh Childress signed in Greece. When he came back ATL had to renounce his rights before PHX could sign him.

If I had to guess I would say they let Chandler go if he is offered 7-8+ Mil a year
But if they can keep him at a bargain price, then they would be silly not to.
Which simply means if a team is willing to overpay for him, they will get him. Goodbye NY.

Not sure, but I might trade Melo for Gallo right now.
We’re not an isolation offensive team.

Cheer up, Everyone!
This just means our chances of getting Wilson Chandler have been increased!
Do the Shumpty Shump, come on and do the Shumpty Shump
Ya know
That was the first thing that entered my mind when I saw this news. Let’s hope it happens !!

We only had a chance at getting one of them anyway
Do the Shumpty Shump, come on and do the Shumpty Shump
well, only if we are willing to overpay for him..
and, well, with the price of our frontcourt currently, I don;t think the Knicks would be able to do such a thing.

Still hate the trade so much
It's tough being a Knicks fan. Being a Giants and Yanks fan is great though.

they'd be better then .500.
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
Especially now that we're better than Miami
Am I right? High five bro!!

"Giants rely on fumbles and stripping the ball. If the pats secure the ball, then the pats win, but if they fumble or let the ball get striped than the giants win. every game the giants play they always benefit from the other teams bonehead mistakes (fumbled or striped) not from thier skills. The giants are a dirty team, I can’t think of any othe team as dirty as the giants. They try to strip the ball as hard as they can because they know they can’t win a fair game." by EaglesNeedD on Jan 23, 2012 2:01 AM EST

Also, Kevin love inked a four year deal as well.

And
Eric Gordon actually turned down the offer from the Hornets. I assume that means he’s not too worried about his knee…otherwise he is a dumb butt
ooorrr he wants out of New Orleans already
Couple weeks back, there were a few rumblings about him wanting to be traded (dude had only been there like 2 weeks!). Then they went away.
What sucks is New Orleans IS a great place to play and I think they have a terrific GM in Dell Demps and I’m a believe that Monty Williams will be a very good coach. What KILLS that team though is not having an owner and subsequently a plan for the future.
The sad thing is when Gordon leaves (and I bet he does), that Chris Paul trade looks pretty woeful, especially since Stern prevented New Orleans from acquiring a slew of young players already locked into contracts for a couple years. And that upcoming Clipper’s pick isn’t looking like its gonna be a high lottery pick either since Minny is actually putting wins on the board!

Gallo Deserves It!
Its crazy how much quicker he has become since leaving. He gets to the free throw line with ease now. Wish we could have kept him because he seems to play better when the game is on the line.
i agree
but he was never the first option here but now we really see how special he was. But remember that Amare wanted his best friend, carmelo, on his team so he got his wish. He wanted to be like Miami with their 3 queens so now he got it and this is what it will be. I just hope Miami will have mercy on us tomorrow and Stat better apologize for making fun of them and talking about “hunting.” It’s not too late to apologize and it be wise if he does.
I think the majority of us knew Gallo was going to be very good.
That is why there was such a long debate about trading him for Carmelo. I don’t think anyone should be surprised at how we ll he is playing this season (or last).
The Knicks didn’t trade Gallo because they gave up on him though. They were well aware of his talents and wanted to keep him and let him grow as a Knick.
However, the opportunity to get Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups and speed up the Knicks return to glory meant we had to give up young talent. Unfortunately, the Knicks had no choice but to include Gallo in the trade. Yeah, we overpaid for Melo, but even if we didn’t, Gallo was always going to be in that package.
So it was a calculated risk. Primetime Melo NOW, or hopefully an Italian star in 2 years. The Knicks chose now.
