Around SBN: How The Kings Beat The Coyotes: Lather, Rinse, Repeat

another loss... another trade proposal... whether you like it or not.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, given the state of on the court play and the resultant illness that many of us have been feeling, I'm finding trade proposals to be serving medicinal purposes (yes, at the expense of the sanity of many posters who find them as irritating as pepper spray).

So my first proposal actually had some support. That was the one with GSW, Orlando and our very own Knicks. We ended up with Dwight, Duhon, Charles Jenkins and David Lee.

This proposal, while it doesn't bring us a superstar, is an addition by subtraction proposal, netting us some necessary pieces, youth and more complimentary players. And it's with the Clippers, who have Chris Paul (who loves him some Melo) and has the makings of a contender (unlike us as currently constituted). The only catch is it can't happen 'til March (which is fine, because we may be assessing our lottery odds by then)

Clippers Get:

Melo

TD

Knicks Get:

Mo Williams

Eric Bledsoe

Caron Butler

Travis Leslie

Man I can't wait until I no longer need to speculate trades and can actually enjoy this God Forsaken franchise!

Melo... for who?

This trade looks absolutely ridiculous. We give up a star player for below average role players? No Thanks.

well..

we last we gave up a bunch of role players for a star player and got worse…

but i do agree, we can get more than this.

I wouldn't expect a trade right now

The Knicks would be selling low, I’d give Amare a couple of games to start dominating again and then expect the trade rumors to start surfacing. Same with Melo, why trade him when he hasn’t been good and is injured.

Even if this would help our team

The Knicks could get SO much more for Melo if they decided to trade him. I want an all-star PG, not a bunch of above average ones.

exactly.

So we traded a bunch of 5s and 6s to get a 9

Then we turn around and trade that 9 for a bunch of 3s and 2s?

I get the logic of your idea, but that is trading for pennies on the dollar.

by Mikel L on Jan 29, 2012 1:39 PM EST reply actions

Exactly.

If we are going to trade him, fine, but get more for him than this.

one, i think GM's around the league are now convinced...

that melo and stat are what they are and consequently, do not value them as high as we did.

and 2, what “stars” are available other than deron and dwight? i think if, and that’s a big if, we decide to move one or both, we’re going to have to target above average, younger players who fit together rather than getting dollar for dollar.

nobody is as stupid as we were and will give us the a whole farm of young talent for our big fat cows.

by bucketsncents on Jan 29, 2012 1:54 PM EST up reply actions

So your version of above average younger players are two over the hill players, a young PG who may never be a starter, and someone I've never even heard of?

please. This is absurd. Giving up our best player for essentially Eric Bledsoe, this would be one of the worst trades ever and we would be ridiculed across the league

EBled will be a beast someday...

once the game starts to slow down for him and he gets better at protecting the ball. But he’s clearly not the kind of player you trade Melo for.

I’m fine with above average, younger players, but I don’t think the guys you named fit into that bill.

First of all, I don't support this trade at all.

But you do make an interesting point by bringing up Eric Bledsoe.

I have a feeling a pg from the Clippers is going to be available soon.

Think about it… Chauncey, Mo Williams, Eric Bledsoe, Chris Paul

That’s a logjam. I bet Mo or Eric can be acquired for a decent price.

Why are mosquitoes hatching in our offense?

I would like to think we could do better . . .

However, with an idiot owner, and all our players market values sinking like the Titanic, I am not optimistic.

No thanks.

We love MoWill’s contribution off the bench, and I shudder to think of Melo’s effect on the chemistry of our team.
