Postgame Thread: Knicks 113, Pistons 86

Hey, okay! The Knicks played a bad team and made them look like a bad team! They passed the ball and hit open shots! Landry Fields had a career night! Carmelo Anthony looked quite sharp in his return to action! Extended garbage time! Hooray!

Jared Jeffries Shot Tracker

Jeffries went 1-3 tonight for 2 points.

Fun Fact: Jeffries is currently shooting a career high .643 from the Free Throw line this season, easily eclipsing his previous career high of .625!

60% FG 50% 3pt this is how our offense should looke like to became a top team in this league which we supposed to be

from the very beginning. detroit is bad team, but our offense is really clicking right now. i hope we can continue this against bulls

Wasn't all good? What are these idiots talking about

I’m usually one to nitpick, but this game was perfectly good everywhere. No complaints. On to the next one

by BJabs on Jan 31, 2012 10:10 PM EST reply actions

My favorite number tonight is 12

12 turnovers. If we could keep it that low going forward, games like the last Cleveland and Miami coulda been wins (coulda mind you)

Don't get me wrong, I love the win.

But I can’t help but think of this exactly like the Bobcats win Part 2. A good win against a shitty team that will only serve to set me up for more disappointment this weekend.

I dream of Eddy Curry feeding me fish sticks.

OMG IMAN SHUMPERT HAD 6 ASSISTS

He’s the answer! ::Mocking “Lin is our best answer at PG” voice::

I will go to my grave believing that if the Knicks had picked up Earl Barron before the 2011 Playoffs, we would not have been swept by the Celtics.

by east_harlem on Jan 31, 2012 10:14 PM EST reply actions

6 assists in 35 minutes

Lin had 4 assists in 6 minutes. Projecting out to 35 minutes, that’s… let’s see…..22 assists for Lin! The next Stockton, baby!

Leads team in PER

Lin must start and play 35 minutes every game if Knicks are going to amount to anything. Can’t CoachD see Lin leads the team in PER at 23.5? Melo is not even at 21 and everyone else is under 20. As Clyde said, he fills up the stat sheet whenever he gets in. Do NOT mock Lin!

by James Foye on Jan 31, 2012 11:36 PM EST up reply actions

I want Lin to succeed as much as anyone, but that PER isn't going to be even close to what it is if he gets more minutes during the part of the game that ISN'T garbage time.

It’s like seeing some 10th man off the bench with eye-popping per/36 numbers and wondering why his efficiency and counting stats don’t rise linearly with his increased minutes. Because of course it wouldn’t.

I dream of Eddy Curry feeding me fish sticks.

Agreed

and we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves, but at some point that guy is given a chance to have some more, non garbage minutes.

All we know for sure is what is

and right now, garbage time or not, he’s got some pretty decent stats and has earned himself some more playing time.

We can beat the bulls

Rose will get his points.(even with chandler in the middle), but the key is to pass the ball and get the offense clicking. If melo does his routine and amare gets good feeds form the guards and finishes like tonight, then we have a fantastic chance of winning even in double figures against the bulls.
Of course a little bench scoring could also go a long way…

by Dan D'antoni on Jan 31, 2012 11:58 PM EST up reply actions

Of course

while Shumpert can look like a solid PG against the Pistons, the Bulls are an entirely different beast. Good thing there offense isn’t too scary

when we have time to practice we are good. when we have to play on instincts is when we get killed. every game this season where we’ve had decent down time we’ve come out crisp and hungry

Nice to See a Win!!

When is the last time the Kinick’s beat a team with a winning record??? Still, a win is a win.

Chandlers

FG% is 70 thus far, I really dont understand how anybody can complain about this guy. He never takes shots that he shouldnt, and once BD is back to actually play the point, our TO’s go down, and he can find the right spacing for Melo, Ty and Amare. We obviously gotta long way to go, but just the mere fact that Davis wont be turning the ball over by just bringing it up like TD does, or throwing it away on the first damn pass of a possession will make everything so much easier on the big frontcourt players.

True

The fact that our offense is so bad and we’ve lost a lot masks the fact that it’s pretty damn awesome to have a guy like Tyson Chandler at the 5.

one knock on Melo

he always seems to have a good number of assists first half, and then none second half. Tonight 6 at the break, 6 at the end. Tonight turned into a blowout, so you can forgive him, but if he could just keep looking to set-up his teammates all game, then he could really open up the court for himself too.

It is a consistent issue though

He acknowledged the blowout playing a factor, but it does seem to happen kind of often.

by jlaw on Feb 1, 2012 12:16 AM EST up reply actions

I should have looked at his minute totals at the half, will make note of it in the future as I continue to watch this trend

but I think he played about 21 first half minutes and 12 second half. Still, keeping up the pace from the first half, 6 in 21 minutes paces him for 9-10 in the 33 minutes he did play. More just something to keep an eye on, other teams certainly will. Just wonder if he goes into the game thinking, ‘OK, we need to score, and I need to help my teammates get open looks’ and then as the game gets later he changes mindset to, ‘We need to score, I will do it.’ The way he consistently puts up assists in the first half, he should be getting close to double digits a lot of games, but doesn’t yet.
