That was a fun game
Stat looked much more like Stat, we attacked the boards and I love Shump.
Not sure how but Shump seems to have only been credited with 3 assists.

I'm glad we managed to get a couple of the easy wins
2-2 is better than 0-4 in these few. It’s gona make a difference later on in our record
That second quarter...
I’m still cleaning up getting over it! amazing stuff from the team today!
Shump dunk ftw
2012 New York Mets, World Series Champions!
What an awesome game to watch.
Lots of nice dunks (Shumpty’s oopin, Melo’s posterizin, Amar’e’s murdering, Humpty’s putbackin, Tyson bisonin, etc.). That 2nd quarter run was huge. Shumpert looked awesome out there even those his stats aren’t great. Landry looked much more aggressive and seeing Shumpert start probably woke him up a bit. Melo had some really nice passes. Bibby was huge in the 2nd quarter and did a great job of hitting open jumpers and creating some open looks for others. Jorts was rather jortsy if I do say so myself. Amar’e was awesome and really did a great job of balancing the attack/ jump shooting. Tyson had a sick Tyson game. I just hated to see Douglas completely fall off, I hope it’s just temporary because we can’t afford to just lose a rotation player for no reason.
Also, anyone else hear the obnoxious fan(s) tonight? I heard some random things through the game like always, but in the end they were just shouting “#55 you’re trash” and stuff like that. Just completely being a dick to Jorts for no reason. SMDH
Great win guys, now lets build up that momentum.

BARON DAVIS TO SHUMP WILL PLASTER YOU-TUBE
and possibly the other way around, if Baron can still muster up a dunk or two
Humpty had 6 points, 7 rebounds and 1 blocked shot in less than 13 minutes

i particularly like the dirt-strong takeaway from greg monroe on the defensive end
Jorts just decided, “Hey, I want that ball. I’m taking it now.” Pretty sweet.

If he can start consistently making those open poops he is really going to be a force
but even still the kid constantly makes great plays on D and crashes the boards and is exactly the type of player we need off the bench

a short story
over the previous two nba seasons, i lived with a roommate from dallas who was a huge mavs fan. part of our “roommate constitution” was that if either one of us was home or watching our team play, we would dvr the other’s game…over the two years i watched a TON of mav’s games, to say the least. it eventually became interesting for me to compare the experience of watching these two teams, one of whom was a consistent winner and the other either a struggling / rebuilding team or, as was the case last year, an up-and-coming team with its share of growing pains. anyhow, when watching mavs games i experienced a lot of games like we saw tonight; the mavs would just blow out a team like the nets or kings or whoever, and the contest would be basically decided by halftime. so tonight was a strange experience for me, i guess, to see MY team have one of those nights. Thanks, Knicks!

Very poignant story. Should this game become the thing that sparks the team, you’ll have witnessed it and have a unique perspective on the past, present and future of this team.

All my friends are Mavs fans
(except a couple I’ve slowly converted to the Knicks). I see a ton of Mavs games. So I can totally relate to what you are saying, this totally makes sense to me.

ironically enough, didn't we blow out the mavs when we sucked?
i think it was the 2009-2010 season.
there were a fair amount of blow outs last year too.

oh absolutely, we've won some blow outs over the past couple years
but there’s a different, affirming feel to it entirely this year, which is what i’m talking about.

Melo didn't have a big points night but quite a stat line
Just all around great teamwork These are the types of stat lines I look for and that will debunk to hell the myth that Stat and Melo don’t play nice together.
though it might take a reduced night from one or more players, like tonight
which is perfectly fine, just maybe harder to negotiate night in and night out
it's only one game so we shouldn't get too excited
but that is kind of the point. It’s still early no one knows enough about how things will play out to make any damning indictments on this team after only a handful of games.
If they want it bad enough, they’ll work hard and the whole team will only get better from here. Hopefully we’ll all be happy for them should that happen.

Stat's pissing me off.
He thinks he’s Melo for some reason. I’m sick of seeing 4 defenders collapsing on him, leaving 3 guys on the perimeter open, and forcing up a stupid shot.

22 points on 15 shots and 8 boards 4 assists isn't good enough?

I was surprised at his line, tbh
All I know is I yelled at Amar’e at least 5 times to pass the ball.

His shot was a bit off, and he missed 2 threes
But he was certainly on his game tonight. Shumpert did a really nice job getting him involved and giving him a number of easy buckets at the rim
by SweatbandProliferation on Jan 7, 2012 10:26 PM EST up reply actions
Yeah, I'm not denying that he had a good game
But it seemed that a lot of possessions went like; PG dribbles up → Get Stat ball → Stat does a few moves → Draws defenders → Force up heavily contested shot

by Chairman Meow on Jan 7, 2012 10:30 PM EST up reply actions
If anything that's what happened with Melo
He only shot 5 for 14 (still had a good game otherwise), missing a lot of shots at the end of the 1st when Toney played.
by SweatbandProliferation on Jan 7, 2012 10:35 PM EST up reply actions
I think you are exaggerating significantly
he only took 15 shots and he also a lot of times gets those foul calls and goes to the line

yeah i think that's what he's trying to do when he forces up some of those shots
my one issue with him is he needs to protect the ball better when he dribbles. he gets his cookies token alot more than even last season it seems. not really complaining tho, good night tonight.

Yeah I agree at times he dribbles in to traffic with his head down a little too often
but its a double edged sword as many times it results in an easy dunk or free throws so I you have to take the good with the bad to a certain extent and I think in general there is more good than bad.

I thought he was pretty efficient tonight
I think he is a player who should have the leeway to force up a shot here and there I had no issues with his shot selection tonight whatsoever. We need him to be aggressive and when he hits his rhythm on his jumper which we saw the start of tonight he will be an unstoppable force once again.

STAT played pretty well
very efficient and his rebounding which he’s been terrible at has picked up, but he does make the occasional bad decision such as the 4 on 1 head down dribble charge. He had that move patented last season.

agreed
hate it when amare does that. just hate it. it is such an easy problem to fix, it drives me crazy.
step 1 to remedying: recognize that there are six hands in your face
step 2: pass the ball
now, if he really wanted to be clever he could pass the ball to a teammate who had an easy look at the basket. that would be something. but i’ll take just passing it out and resetting the offense.

Dude, since the opening game with Boston last year this is still Stat's team
by RichardVincentGuerin on Jan 7, 2012 10:28 PM EST reply actions
It’s really not important, but this is Melo’s team now. That being said, I think Stat played his best game of the season tonight. Hit the boards, put some effort into defense, and didn’t settle for long jumpers. Went to the basket, and Shump and Melo found him.
Proud owner of over 20,000 comments. (most of them in the wrong place) Oh yeah, and Buster Posey
I kinda hate hearing whose team it is and don't care and they shouldn't either
We want it to be their team. Chandler is loud on the D end I consider him the leader their, and that’s important, and Baron and Shump need to be the vocal and flow leaders on the O. Everything else is gravy cuz Melo and Amar’e are gonna do what they do. They take the team on their backs when necessary, but I never look at them as floor leaders. Maybe that’s just me.

sweet inside dishes...
from shump to stat. what a PG is supposed to look like
jorts solid defense, smart, strong boards, hit his shots… filled his role perfectly
landy looked like landry
stat looked like a power forward
tyson looked like tyson should look.
bibby did the only thing bibby can still do
active hands, actual pNr defense… none of that token show shit.
yeah, it was the pistons, but the rotation looked like guys knew what they were supposed to be doing.
i do wish though we had more players other than shump who can cut pick defense and penetrate into the lane… that is an INVALUABLE skill and one that none of our other guys have.
i think sooner rather than later
Shump Shump will play a huge role on this team, relegating DWTDD to a bit role player. he doesn’t have the size of our other guards, and his D which was underrated last year has regressed, as has his shot. when B.Davis comes back, look for it to be Davis/Fields, Davis/Shump starting, and whoever doesn’t start playing big minutes off the bench, along with Bibby if his outside shot can stay consistent.

The defense is what excites me more than anything
Scoring is about rhythm, and we were able to throw the pistons off of theirs. We’re holding opponents under 100 points 3/4 of the time, when we were at 1/4 last year. Next step, revenge against the Robertcats!
Sad I missed this

Well unless Bully starts shooting better I think this has to be a seriously considered
My major concern about this team is that when Stat and Melo are out i just dont know where we can get consistant scoring though and I still feel like Bully is a more dangerous scorer.

It was nice to see a whole games worth of chemistry between Stat and Melo.
And even nicer to see competent defense. Guys were rotating and everything. One of the really cool things about Shump is that his size allows him can do the switch thing on the wing without creating a glaring weakness that punches a hole in the entire unit. And even cooler still he seems to ONLY switch with another guard or a wing, and doesn’t get himself stuck on a center (like Toney chronically did).
Clyde was right, I think, when he said that the good defense was the catalyst for the good offense. It creates a unity and unselfishness and an awareness of teammates thats infectious and carries over.
Has anyone heard that Keith Bogans was signed by the Knicks?
