Postgame Thread: Knicks 91, Bobcats 87
The Knicks really, really, really wanted to blow that lead and lose, but the Bobcats just wouldn't let them. Recap when I cool off.

Heart attack central.
Why couldn’t they just run away with it at the end of the third like they were supposed to?
3 total points from our bench, one made 3 pointer all night
Our two stars shoot -20% and we still win? Eh, whaddya gonna do.
ALL HAIL SHUPERT
Lol @ the post game
“Carmelo once again came through in the clutch!”

This game smelled
It reminded me of Chicago scum, in which the superstar(s) shoot like shit, and yet they draw enough fouls and their teammates play good enough defense to get the win. Where the hell was the bench? 3 points for them.
TD is the scorer off the bench
And apparently he left his swagger in the OR last year.
plus 3 steals and 3 blocks
and an unknown amount of readjusted shots.
Yes, I am a Giants fan. Now that we got that out of the way....

Can't joke bout him anymore
The guy earned my respect when the Heat won without Lebron and Wade and he hit the shot to tie it.
Tyson Chandler: Kung-Fu Knickerbocker
Did you see that highlight where he pumpfaked, drove and dunked, and then fell legs all splayed and looking like a kneecapped ostrich?
That isn’t where I lost respect for him again. It was him mean mugging on the floor with the worst mean mug in history as he lay on the floor on his stomach staring at someone somewhere.
GTFOutta here Bosh. You can’t pull that off.
Fish Fingers give me a break.
no one ever said he wasn't talented
he did run his own team for awhile as well….but he’s soft, and one game tying shot in the reg. season won’t change that.

Other than a win which is always awesomesauceome.
Now we know that Iman’s previous performances weren’t flukes and that he can handle it. Kids got a future if he can just remember to chug Gatorades during timeouts so he doesn’t keep cramping up.
Fish Fingers give me a break.
happy that we could reduce Diaw's offense
hard to reduce him in any way really….

Carmelo and STAT combined shot 30%, the Knicks hit 1 out of 10 from 3
Still dominated this game except for the first and last 5 minutes and pulled out the win. They’re gonna come out good against the 76ers

anytime this happens
it’s determined that it’s mental. we’ve seen the team come together and we’ve seen em fall apart. hopefully this is a learning moment for everybody.

i was really hoping that GTL would win out when we were deciding the landry nicknames last year, but it wasn’t meant to be. good to see that someone knows what’s up.

I'm just glad we won. Some nice positives to take out of this game.
But the rest of the games this week are going to be a real watershed moment for this team. The Sixers are tearing it up with a ridiculous point differential this season, Memphis is still…well you never know, and then there’s OKC. Gonna be a fun week boys(and girl).
Fish Fingers give me a break.
Didn't we all asked for a defense first?
That’s what we’ve got. Bad offensive game but defense held and that’s how we won. And someone, please tell STAT that there are 4 more guys in the same uniform on the court with him. Each his possession was a copy of the previous one. Get the ball. Stop. Bring up the ball to the chest level. Jump in the middle of the other team. Try to bring the hands up. Lose the ball. Rinse and repeat at the next possession.
any game where
We hold a team to 87 pts is good in my book. Regardless if its charlote or denver

87 is low, but some of the looks they were getting...
we didn’t make it very difficult for them.
Thanks for making us a contender, Donnie.

SHUMP LINE: 16 pts on 13 shots, (53.8 FG%) 6 reb, 4 ast, 3 stl, (3 turnovers), 3 dnk
And the great defense we’re accustomed to.

And that was even with missing some open jumpers
Great game from him. Man, he is just critical for this team.
Amar'e:25 shots, 0 assists
I think we’re doing Melo a disservice by even putting the two in the same league as far as ball stoppers go. At least he keeps his head up while driving; there are no open teammates on the floor STAT.
Last two minutes he tried doing his best Dirk impression
Fadeaway jumpers galore. I was furious.

sometimes i really wish amare had a post game
Anxiously awaiting the day my username will be appropriate
totally agree with this
sometimes amare is good about looking for teammates, and sometimes he isn’t. it’s like he has a “looking for teammates” switch. i really don’t think he has the ability to do both at once. he lacks spontaneity.
and i also wish amare would knock it off with the stupid above-his-head nonsense he’s been doing this season. the over dribbling and the chucking from mid range are really annoying.
Anxiously awaiting the day my username will be appropriate
fuckin snooze fest
Shumpert and Chandler are nice to watch play at least….

I guess it was exciting at the end cuz of the score

Were taught to give it to them ( melo or amare) and watch them iso at the end of games.
Really dantoni? Smdh…great coaching will beat individual play almost all the time. Sans M.J. i really hope this idea doesnt stick throughout the season…

Seriously, if the Knicks stuck to the same offensive gameplan they had the first 3 quarters it doesn't get close.
by SweatbandProliferation on Jan 9, 2012 10:40 PM EST up reply actions
Agreed
Why go away from what’s been successful, especially when the other team knows what’s coming? Doesn’t make sense.
was saying that with my buddy cause it was pretty obvious that the Knicks became conservative. Soccer fans will appreciate this but the Knicks were essentially playing not to lose instead of playing to win because they couldnt seem to pull away in the 3rd
so thinking is..lets just make sure we get the W by going iso with melo. Again in soccer it happens all the time and it shouldnt be a scandal when it happens in basketball too. Right now coach is fighting for his job and the team is fighting for momentum. Let the Knicks practice those picknrolls, lobs and cuts across the lane once they are up 15 10 to play and not just up by 3 to a team thats gotten into their head.
Wow...that's asinine
Ray Allen made an entire career off of moving without the ball. Just because you have 2 ball dominant players it doesn’t mean the other 3 or 4 players should stand around drooling.
welp...
stat and melo stat and melo stat and melo stat and melo

My favorite part of the game
Was when the knicks introduced their new between quarter entertainment the Knicks tumbling dunkers or some shit like that. Basically a bunch of dude gymnasts jumping off a trampoline and dunking. After missing about 10 of their 15 dunks they were viciously booed off the court. I love NYC fans.
Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

From the game writeup on NYTimes:
Anthony picked up his fifth foul with 5:30 left, with the Knicks still clinging to a 5-point lead. Given the tight score, D’Antoni elected to leave Anthony in the game.
"I just didn’t feel like anybody else could produce any points," he said.
Really? Come on man, he wasn’t even the leading scorer today. Have faith in some other guys when it comes to crunch time, especially when he’s shooting 33%
by SweatbandProliferation on Jan 9, 2012 11:54 PM EST reply actions
i guess he really wanted this win badly and thought he go with a proven scorer and clutch player who can get to the line whenever he wants. If he had done it different and lost the game, every critic would ask “why not go to melo when is leads all in the 4th quarter.” So he went with Melo and will be like that mostly til other guys step up and get confidence and the team gets better overall.
There was some really vicious booing
When the Bobcats jumped out to a lead in the beginning amid some just atrocious defense.
yup
and within the next 60 seconds we caught up. Maybe they needed a little booing or a wake up call. They responded well after that except toward the end of the game when Charlotte caught up, but that was mostly due to poor shooting night, no points from bench and the usual buckets melo and stat get weren’t always falling.
can you imagine Baron to Tyson?
we have seen what he did with scrubs like JJ Hickson and other no namers but now he has Tyson and others he can throw to. They will be calling it the “dunk show” soon. Baron has never had that kind of talent around him and is a very good passer, yet underrated. The “experts” always think of him as a scorer but they fail to realize who he has played with and they fail to put things in proper context.
If EVERYBODY knows who is getting the ball at the end of the game
It becomes a lot easier to defend for the opposing team. This seems to be happening quite a bit(EVERY GAME). Also, it sends a bad message to the other players on our team about the coach’s regard for their offensive abilities. I would hope D’Antoni abandons this approach but I am not holding my breath.
New signature coming soon.
yeesh sure Melo is the best closer in the game right now
but it doesn’t mean we should give him the ball every time in the 4th…
I know right. Makes it easy for the D.

it may sound easy
but nobody can stop Melo and there are times when the team goes to him and has to when nobody else cans core. They still working on getting better and it takes a little time.
right now they are still learning and improving
Melo is a closer so it’s only logic for him to win it if nobody else can score. During rough stretches, he is the man to go to, and especially right now or like tonight where there times when nobody else scored. We only got 3 points from the bench and only one 3 pointer, but still won. I doubt they will always look just for melo but this is how it is right now and will be better. There will be other nights where others will step up so that he doesn’t have to score all the points in the fourth but a win is a win, and take that anytime right now. On not so good of a night, and being so early in the season, I take this win.
usually the rough stretches are the ones where the ball sticks in his hands.
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
Absolute nonsense
Melo is a closer so it’s only logic for him to win it if nobody else can score.
First of all there is no position on a basketball team called closer.
Second, if no one else gets a chance to close the game then you can never know if they can do it or not.
Third, why change what has gotten you in the lead for the first three quarters into a fourth quarter isofest where your best scorer is forced to play three on one, with predictable results? I prefer team basketball where the dagger can come from any direction.
Sure, it is more or less working at the moment, but that does not make it any less of a shitty offensive philosophy. We have barely scraped out wins in games that we should have won going away. This is not a good plan for long range success.
New signature coming soon.
