Game Thread: Knicks vs. Lakers-2/10/12

Good evening, shrimpdads! Tonight promises to be fairly silly. The Knicks, looking for their fourth straight win, will face the Lakers on national television, with a substantial portion of the attention likely being devoted to Jeremy Lin. Lin, making his third start, will go up against the first above-average defense he's faced, as well as the biggest bigs who've ever tried to swat him in the paint. That's what a lot of folks were waiting to see from Lin, so that should be interesting.

But for us, this is just one more opportunity to see if these lovable short-handed Knicks can upset another team. They'll probably need their sharpest three-point shooting, and they'll definitely need some otherworldly interior defense and rebounding (without getting into foul trouble) from Tyson Chandler, Jared Jeffries and whoever else would like to lend a hand against Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum. It's a longshot, but at least the Lakers played a close overtime game last night and might be tired or something.

Comment along in this thread if you're watching and check out the terrific Silver Screen and Roll for Lakers coverage. As always, please do not post photos, .gifs, illegal streams, or lunar travel brochures in the thread. Keep it light, keep it civil, and enjoy the game. May the magic continue!

Tip-off's at 8.

jeremy lin drinking game

my friends and I often play an extremely uncreative NBA drinking game for nationally televised games. Basically, we use our absurd encyclopedic knowledge of NBA players to come up with things to drink for – examples, drink every time Russell Westbrook clearly should’ve passed, every time Gerald Wallace awkwardly hurls his body for no apparent reason, drink every time DAnilo Gallinari is exuberantly Italian.
Anyway, since I live in Chicago, the Knicks haven’t been a frequent target. But tonight we have a special edition Jeremy Lin drinking game. Figured I’d share the rules with P&T.
Drink for every Lin made field goal or assist
Every Lin alley-oop
Every Lin-Chandler assist in the paint
Every Lin assisted Steve Novak three
Every time ESPN is excessively racist

We will be hammered.

by Rodger Sherman on Feb 10, 2012 7:55 PM EST reply actions

depends

there is also a decent amount of side drinking. we have two forties and it typically works out that both get finished or get extremely close to being finished.

Just opposing teams getting used to him/playing defense better than Nets/Jazz/Wizards

That said I think everyone is underestimating how effective he will really be with Amar’e and Carmelo on the floor. He has skills that won’t just disappear that will make this team very dangerous

by SweatbandProliferation on Feb 10, 2012 8:00 PM EST up reply actions

I was actually just making another bad pun

Yeah, I’m sure it’s going to be much tougher for him tonight. But I agree, his skills won’t disappear. As Seth said, he’s not going to be an MVP candidate every night, but he’ll be a PG, and that’s good enough.

I just hope he’s smart enough to know how to adapt. If they go under screens, run the screens closer to the hoop so he has a shorter jumper to hit. If they stack the lane, look to get it out of there fast.

by Joamiq on Feb 10, 2012 8:10 PM EST up reply actions

I feel the same way

this is the first time he’s facing a good defense. Lin will blow by Fisher with ease, but he’s a cheapshot artist and there will be 2 7fters waiting for him at the rim. I hope he does well, but the realest in me smells trouble.

Many of us just get frustrated and say things we don’t mean.

Because he's better than what he shows..

Plus, he dunks good, yet he settles for outside shit. He should shoot closer to the basket.

His flashes of brilliance make his stupidity more frustrating

In the end, I do think his boneheadedness outweighs his talent unfortunately. He doesn’t have much of a role on a good team. He’d be a great 18 ppg scorer for a crap team though

Dang - robbed

If they take the 2 points they should at least give a possession back

by screamedia on Feb 10, 2012 9:53 PM EST reply actions

I'm starting to realize that

most of the instances where Lin fakes going to the pick and darts the other way are when the pick is set to his left…

Walker only has 4 points but he's a +15.

Novak’s got 9 and he’s a -4.
I guess that’s what coach is seeing.
