Postgame Thread: Knicks 90, Raptors 87

So, uh, the Knicks just sucked and sucked and sucked until the fourth quarter when they played amazing defense and then Jeremy Lin drained a game-winning three-pointer. This is getting ridiculous.

Recap later!

Here's some fuzzy video if you missed the final possession:

I'm not bringing his off court stuff into it

But he needs to get his shot right. It did get better late though, so that’s a good sign.

Looking at the box and the 4th quarter, I feel he did fine and helped Lin shoulder the load

why should I believe in stoudemire?

why is he a net asset on the court? i say let tyson and jeffries be the finishers on pick and rolls. they’re not as good at that but they are much better defenders, smarter players, hustle more. i don’t see why we need stoudemire.

we can live without his shooting and isolation plays. they’re not that great anyway.

I get what you're saying

but half the reason we were down the whole game was the defense sucked . . linas kleiza looking like an all star. this crap always happens with stoudemire.

Anxiously awaiting the day my username will be appropriate

by knickswin on Feb 14, 2012 10:19 PM EST up reply actions

yo man

get over yourself.

half the reason we were down most of the game was because lin had like 6 turnovers in the first half, and calderon was killing us every time down the floor. couple that with barbosa and kleiza getting timely buckets.

peg it on stoudemire if you must. but you’re actin silly.

the lin turnovers were bad

and calderon was hitting some nonsense . . . but it’s very easy for teams to look good on offense when one of your players is a bum defender. i saw way too many easy looks for the raptors. every team targets stoudemire and runs pick and rolls at him. it’s a serious problem. and why do i have to get over myself.

Raptors' plan on D was to HAMMER Lin, every time

… and it worked better than expected, because the refs let about 1/2 the fouls go uncalled. Knicks gotta plan for that, and for the Lin double… they need MORE THAN ONE GUY ROLLING to the basket…. so Lin has targets inside and out.

- Knicks’ D won this game. Even Stat upped his defense in the 4th… a very good sign, because that’s gonna be absolutely necessary for the Knicks to contend.

- Shump a great defender, obviously. Give him the toughest covers when the chips are down. It works.

- Stat visibly improved as the game went on. Understandable.

- Lin is… well, linsane.

“I don’t know if I’d consider this a good game from Lin or not….” Game-tying 3 point play and game-winning 3 later… great game!!

And Shump and Tyson’s D at the end was just too good. Even Amar’e by getting some boards and stopping penetrators

Opponents are gonna keep hammering Lin, every game now

Because they figure (correctly) that the refs after a while will start calling only the most obvious fouls. Nasty business. Knicks gotta plan for that, make sure the kid has targets to pass to when he’s doubled.

Also, Lin must learn to act a little more. Gotta sell those fouls in the NBA… refs are morons.

in all honesty, i would think very hard about moving lin and stoudemire for calderon and bargnani

I like/love lin, but it’s imperative we get rid of stoudemire. calderon is a good point guard for mike’s system. bargnani fits like a glove.

HAHAHAHAHAH

and you complain about Amare’s defense

by Doug Chu on Feb 14, 2012 11:30 PM EST up reply actions

bargnani is not nearly as bad a defender as amar'e

amar’e is one of the worst defenders in the league. maybe the worst. i’d be okay if he just got demolished one-on-one, but it’s his horrible team defense and awareness that is cancerous.

bargnani fits much better on offense too. he is a real stretch four. he, melo, and tyson fit whether we’re playing d’antoni ball or if we’re playing another style.

but i conceded this isn’t happening because lin isn’t getting traded.

i'm not mad at turnovers too much

simply because the way he is getting them is coming from trying to get guys involved. a few times he got wrapped up trying to split the defense and stuff, and that should be avoided, or avoidable.

but in the early going, trying to get the ball to stat, seeing if they could open things up. he’s a good player, and he tries lots of things on the floor, that no one was able to do the first 25 games.

I've been having my doubts about Melo...

but if Lin keeps this up, Melo will get crucified if he goes back to iso stagnant offense. I think Melo will have to learn to pick and roll like Amare does and also post up more—he does some of that but it is not his strong point ATM to go along with spotting up and knocking down threes.

He does that, the Knicks are definitely contenders if Lin keeps this up.

I'm still feeling the tingly from the game winner...

but those turnovers are starting to concern me. They should have someone run toward the top of the backcourt on the baseline as a pressure release valve he could pass to if there is no drive space or the roller isn’t open

by Air Kwame on Feb 14, 2012 10:55 PM EST up reply actions

Dont be concerned bro-hambone

Think about it logically. He has played in 7 games. SEVEN. He is still seeing things for the first time…and get this.. is STILL overcoming them. Let him continue to get his reps.. and as the defenses begin to look more familiar..the turnovers will drop

That whole last Knicks possession was BEAUTIFUL

Chandler gets the rebound, outlets to Shump and instantly points Shump toward Lin… ‘get him the ball,’ he says. As soon as Lin gets the ball, Chandler starts motioning Lin to HOLD IT for the last shot. (Chandler is so great.) Now Lin is holding it; he turns to MDA to tell him what he wants to do, then turns to Chandler who’s about to come set the pick and WAVES HIM OFF. ‘Let me handle this,’ he says. Waits, dribbles, sees the opening… and cold as ice, drains the 3. Wow. Gorgeous moment in sports.

Some of Lin's TOs were fouls

which the refs didn’t call. Plus Lin’s not used to the double on the PnR…. they’ll study tape, figure out how to get him better targets to pass to when the defense loads up (and fouls him like crazy, which they did).

Watching the game on replay..

Wow. The Knicks defense in the 4th was wow.

About the Lin turn-overs.. don’t really care how much he turns over the ball. As long as the Knicks win that’s really all that matters. Average 10 for all I care. Just.. win.

Well, that 3 @ the end there, was balls. The And-1 was pretty bananas as well.. Missed the game because of Valentines day stuff, but I’m glad they won.

Aw Varentine's day > Knicks game

Also watching replay. He is hea.vy. Raptors defended him well, but the more teams push him to the perimeter, the better his shot will get, the more they knock him down, the tougher he’ll get (and more fouls). He’s handling it verrrry well.
