Postgame Thread: Knicks 90, Raptors 87
So, uh, the Knicks just sucked and sucked and sucked until the fourth quarter when they played amazing defense and then Jeremy Lin drained a game-winning three-pointer. This is getting ridiculous.
Recap later!
Here's some fuzzy video if you missed the final possession:

I'm not bringing his off court stuff into it
But he needs to get his shot right. It did get better late though, so that’s a good sign.

why should I believe in stoudemire?
why is he a net asset on the court? i say let tyson and jeffries be the finishers on pick and rolls. they’re not as good at that but they are much better defenders, smarter players, hustle more. i don’t see why we need stoudemire.
we can live without his shooting and isolation plays. they’re not that great anyway.

i would LOVE to eat crow
believe me. i’ve gone back for seconds, thirds, and fourths regarding lin. but i’ve been waiting all season for amar’e to show up and he hasn’t. i’ve been waiting since he got in the nba for him to get a clue on defense.
Anxiously awaiting the day my username will be appropriate
YES
he was trash. he’s ALWAYS trash. he ALWAYS gets got sleeping, watching the ball and misses rotations and just gives up on guarding pick and rolls. and waddaya know we were back to switching today . . .
Anxiously awaiting the day my username will be appropriate
I want a real defense for stoudemire
not just people telling me i’m crazy. i’m willing to be convinced. but i won’t be convinced by this.
Anxiously awaiting the day my username will be appropriate
nobody's going to tell you you're crazy for thinking Amare sucks on defense
but right now? You’re focusing on THAT right now? Your name literally just came true in the craziest fashion. You can post this other stuff tomorrow!
I dream of Eddy Curry feeding me fish sticks.
Look at it Dave. Look at it.
I get what you're saying
but half the reason we were down the whole game was the defense sucked . . linas kleiza looking like an all star. this crap always happens with stoudemire.
Anxiously awaiting the day my username will be appropriate
yo man
get over yourself.
half the reason we were down most of the game was because lin had like 6 turnovers in the first half, and calderon was killing us every time down the floor. couple that with barbosa and kleiza getting timely buckets.
peg it on stoudemire if you must. but you’re actin silly.
/// aighttho.com \/// twitter.com/aighttho \
yup. lin had this exact problem with timeberwolves.
if rubio was a better shot, we’d problly have lost that game too. Shump can D calderon though. Can Melo do D like Shump?
I seriously am doubting whether or not we need these super stars…
Shump was playing the 2 guard though
So they’d be able to coexist.

i'll give camelo a chance
he could be useful as long as he isn’t a ball stopper or is only a ball stopper at the end of the shot clock.
i’ll give amar’e like 5 more games until i’m completely done with him.
Anxiously awaiting the day my username will be appropriate
dude plays a long time with the ball
turnovers are bound to happen, that said, he got better as the game progressed
"Yeah, come on and let the good times roll
We're gonna stay here till we soothe our souls

Not hating.
I love the guy. I’m sure he’ll learn and develop as he gets further into the season.

/// aighttho.com \/// twitter.com/aighttho \
dwell on the good more, my friend
"Yeah, come on and let the good times roll
We're gonna stay here till we soothe our souls
If it take all night long"
the lin turnovers were bad
and calderon was hitting some nonsense . . . but it’s very easy for teams to look good on offense when one of your players is a bum defender. i saw way too many easy looks for the raptors. every team targets stoudemire and runs pick and rolls at him. it’s a serious problem. and why do i have to get over myself.
Anxiously awaiting the day my username will be appropriate
yea man.
who was it that scored on pick and rolls against stoudemire again?
/// aighttho.com \/// twitter.com/aighttho \
???
the whole raptors team? calderon, amir, kleiza i saw plenty of times. plus he was late with rotating on their shooters.
Anxiously awaiting the day my username will be appropriate
none of the numbers flatter stoudemire . . .
Anxiously awaiting the day my username will be appropriate
no, I'm really not
and I don’t want you to make personal attacks at me because I’m not making personal attacks at you. I want you to defend stoudemire’s play. why should I want him to play? he IS a horrible team defender. he hasn’t the foggiest idea how to guard pick and rolls. he cluelessly wanders around the whole time.
Anxiously awaiting the day my username will be appropriate

Raptors' plan on D was to HAMMER Lin, every time
… and it worked better than expected, because the refs let about 1/2 the fouls go uncalled. Knicks gotta plan for that, and for the Lin double… they need MORE THAN ONE GUY ROLLING to the basket…. so Lin has targets inside and out.
- Knicks’ D won this game. Even Stat upped his defense in the 4th… a very good sign, because that’s gonna be absolutely necessary for the Knicks to contend.
- Shump a great defender, obviously. Give him the toughest covers when the chips are down. It works.
- Stat visibly improved as the game went on. Understandable.
- Lin is… well, linsane.

Tebow was a first round draft pick from a gigantic college, Heisman winner, 2x NCAA champ. Religion is the only thing they share. It’s short-sighted to make the comparison.

This is just...Wow. Just wow.
The key to this game…and also is becoming a common theme. The 4th quarter duo of Lin and Shumpert. Those two are doing an amazing job to close out games. On BOTH sides of the court.

Opponents are gonna keep hammering Lin, every game now
Because they figure (correctly) that the refs after a while will start calling only the most obvious fouls. Nasty business. Knicks gotta plan for that, make sure the kid has targets to pass to when he’s doubled.
Also, Lin must learn to act a little more. Gotta sell those fouls in the NBA… refs are morons.

well i would rather just dump stoudemire for an expiring

we’re not going to trade lin anytime soon. i should get that idea out of my head.

"Moving Lin" is an impossibility now
MSG stock is through the roof because of him…. he’s worth 100s of millions to the marketing dept… EVEN IF it made basketball sense, which it does not, it could never happen.
you are right
my situation was more hypothetical really. lin is not getting traded anytime soon.
Anxiously awaiting the day my username will be appropriate
bargnani is not nearly as bad a defender as amar'e
amar’e is one of the worst defenders in the league. maybe the worst. i’d be okay if he just got demolished one-on-one, but it’s his horrible team defense and awareness that is cancerous.
bargnani fits much better on offense too. he is a real stretch four. he, melo, and tyson fit whether we’re playing d’antoni ball or if we’re playing another style.
but i conceded this isn’t happening because lin isn’t getting traded.
Anxiously awaiting the day my username will be appropriate

i'm not mad at turnovers too much
simply because the way he is getting them is coming from trying to get guys involved. a few times he got wrapped up trying to split the defense and stuff, and that should be avoided, or avoidable.
but in the early going, trying to get the ball to stat, seeing if they could open things up. he’s a good player, and he tries lots of things on the floor, that no one was able to do the first 25 games.

but if Lin keeps this up, Melo will get crucified if he goes back to iso stagnant offense. I think Melo will have to learn to pick and roll like Amare does and also post up more—he does some of that but it is not his strong point ATM to go along with spotting up and knocking down threes.
He does that, the Knicks are definitely contenders if Lin keeps this up.

every time bill walker got the ball
imagine it as melo instead, and think of all the options he’ll have

We will know soon enough if Lin can continue playing this well and if so...
how Melo adjusts. TBO, I did not see a lot of him in Den but I assume he ran iso plays out there a lot.

Also, a couple of his TOs were caused by fouls
which the refs failed to call. And the Knicks will start planning for the double-team-Lin D, figure out how to get the right pass done.
I'm still feeling the tingly from the game winner...
but those turnovers are starting to concern me. They should have someone run toward the top of the backcourt on the baseline as a pressure release valve he could pass to if there is no drive space or the roller isn’t open
Dont be concerned bro-hambone
Think about it logically. He has played in 7 games. SEVEN. He is still seeing things for the first time…and get this.. is STILL overcoming them. Let him continue to get his reps.. and as the defenses begin to look more familiar..the turnovers will drop
"they try to do what he do, and been where he's been, but they get folded in two.....he's the dude"
That whole last Knicks possession was BEAUTIFUL
Chandler gets the rebound, outlets to Shump and instantly points Shump toward Lin… ‘get him the ball,’ he says. As soon as Lin gets the ball, Chandler starts motioning Lin to HOLD IT for the last shot. (Chandler is so great.) Now Lin is holding it; he turns to MDA to tell him what he wants to do, then turns to Chandler who’s about to come set the pick and WAVES HIM OFF. ‘Let me handle this,’ he says. Waits, dribbles, sees the opening… and cold as ice, drains the 3. Wow. Gorgeous moment in sports.

I just threw this together. I lobby this(or a better remake) be hoisted as our banner after any Lin victory.

Some of Lin's TOs were fouls
which the refs didn’t call. Plus Lin’s not used to the double on the PnR…. they’ll study tape, figure out how to get him better targets to pass to when the defense loads up (and fouls him like crazy, which they did).
AAAAAAAAAAA
I remember why I got hooked on this game – variable reinforcement – it’s worth it
YAY
I feel sorry for Baron. You can tell he really wants to play.

Stainer of mountaintops.
I can't believe he knocked down the three still.
That’s been considered his weak part of his game.

We stole two...
…and in no way is that depressing.
Never in 26 years of being a fan have I been so pumped for a sub .500 team.

Once you go yellow
You don’t need Carmelo
Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.
Lin should tell the media about Tebow...
“I play great the whole game. Not just the fourth quarter.”
Linning and Winning!
Could it really be that the Knicks have 4 all star caliber players in the starting lineup?
And they’re all under 30?
jr?
And Fields will never be an all-star. He’s an extremely important player for a team that wants to contend, but he’s just not an all star type player.

Funny I said the same thing to my wife tonight
Although I have to say, their almost championship against Houston was pretty good. Although I still have nightmares of Charles Smith getting rejected …
ugh i don't want to remember that
he had so many chances under the basket. linsanity ftw, thank you lin!
can't wait for melo to join in on this ride!
I think fans should be more appreciative of that dude… He’s fucking good.
This is a great ride. a great ride. Get better Baron.
Grunwald's agent needs to be banging on Dolan's door right now to get a contract signed.
If Davis ever puts a uni on, this may be the deepest Knick team ever.
So this is happening and we still
don’t have Jorts and Melo back. If Davis can come back at any semblance of his former self, this is going to be a deep team. That is something I thought I would NEVER again say about the Knicks…
if melo returns who do you want to be our 5-man in the fourth quarter
tonight i think this is our best 5
chandler
amare
fields
shump
jlin
which player should be replaced by melo..
its hard to tell wether its shump or fields
it'll be dictated by matchups and/or hot hand
if we need stops it will definitley be shump tho.

Watching the game on replay..
Wow. The Knicks defense in the 4th was wow.
About the Lin turn-overs.. don’t really care how much he turns over the ball. As long as the Knicks win that’s really all that matters. Average 10 for all I care. Just.. win.
Well, that 3 @ the end there, was balls. The And-1 was pretty bananas as well.. Missed the game because of Valentines day stuff, but I’m glad they won.
Linsanity.. it’s some crazy shit. LINJA MAGIC!
Linsanity.. it’s some crazy shit. LINJA MAGIC!
Did this dude just did this?
Aw Varentine's day > Knicks game
Also watching replay. He is hea.vy. Raptors defended him well, but the more teams push him to the perimeter, the better his shot will get, the more they knock him down, the tougher he’ll get (and more fouls). He’s handling it verrrry well.
