2012: The Metaphysics Behind The New York Knicks

Jeremy Lin's success goes deeper than his Harvard degree, his degree of obstacles he's overcome, and the degree of pressure to succeed in New York City. Yes, the 3 degrees of this spectacular phenomenon must have seeds in good karma. Supporting my assertion that Jeremy has "good karma," I have explored the African Divination system of the Sacred Obi Abata to outline the vibrations surrounding Jeremy and the Knicks. It is not fortune telling, but a methodology of outlining the energy matrix around an entity of life--be it animate or inanimate, through the casting of four cowrie shells adhered to symmetrically cut coconut shells onto a mat.

As written by Afolabi A. Epega, in his book, "Obi Divination," "Obi divination is the original and most valuable form of Ifa divination systems performed by the ancient [African people of Ifa]. [The four shells] splits into four separable segments: two males (ako meji) and two females (abo meji). These segments represent a balance in the cosmic forces of the universe: the positive and masculine force, and the negative and feminine force. It is believed that all the changes and transformations taking place in the universe result from the interaction of these two cosmic forces (1)."

"When the obi is cast, the combinations of the two males and two females segments produce [1 of 9 possible Obi Abata formations, which also indicates 1 of 16 major [Sacred] Odus that represent the basic principles underlying the phenomenal changes of the universe. The system of Obi divination is based on the identity of opposites and the mathematics of four raised to the fourth power, thus giving a total of 256 possibilities (Epega 2)."

Thus, my purpose of "posting & toasting" is to share with Knick fans an African world-view of what is the mystery of Jeremy Lin and the New York Knicks. Having said that, giving OPINIONS or ARGUMENTS about this season I defer to the writer SETH, as my writing about the Knicks in comparison to Seth's word-smithing would be like lightning to the sun.

The questions posed to the Oracle of Obi Abata surrounding the CHEMISTRY OF THE NEW YORK KNICKS overall:

Q1: What is the Obi Abata matrix surrounding Jeremy's true intentions towards Carmello?
Obi Abata Cast: Obita
Obi Abata Meaning: Living at Peace (unbalanced)

Q2: What Sacred Odu reflects Jeremy's true intentions towards Carmello?

Sacred Odu Cast: Ogunda

Sacred Odu Meaning: Hard work and determination coupled with a single-minded purpose and tunnel vision to obtain a goal

Collective interpretation of the Obi Abata and Sacred Odu: Jeremy wants to live in peace with Carmello
and recognizes that at this time, there is an unbalance stemming from him on how to achieve this, but this balance
will be achieved because Jeremy is willing to do the extra work to live in peace with Mello.

Q3: What is the Obi Abata matrix surrounding Carmello's true intentions towards Jeremy Lin?
Obi Abata Cast: Akoran (unbalanced)
Obi Abata Meaning: Conflicts, Hardships, and Quarrels.

NOTE: When casting the four obi shells, the back end of the shell is considered darkness (read: mysterious, unseen, closed), while the shell having the cowrie shell is considered light (read: openess, seen). These open shells are furthered broken down into two masculine and two feminine cowrie shells facing a diviner. Having said that, the AKORAN is the formation in which two males are facing up and it is rarely a favorable sign. However, when one closed segment lands in front of an open segment it can be seen as protection. And in the case of this divination--a closed segment separated the two males facing up. In addition, the obi shells were not facing one
another, but north and south of each other; therefore the malicious intent from Mello remains dormant and powerless.

Q4: What Sacred Odu reflects Carmello's true intentions towards Jeremy Lin?
Sacred Odu Meaning: Iwori

Sacred Odu Meaning: Greater introspection that leads to positive results

Collective interpretation of the Obi Abata and Sacred Odu: Carmello gets it! He understands what needs to happen to win a championship and will work with Jeremy to get the best out of this situation. The potential for conflict
between these two athletes stems more from outside sources than from within the two men. Carmello is
not giving in to the negative press about the fans fearing he will not fit in. Although it is a potential within Carmello to
feel conflict towards Jeremy--there is an inner strength within Carmello that will not allow him to inflict conflict upon Jeremy, because Mello is mentally strong and sees the big picture.

Q5: What is the Obi Abata matrix surrounding Jeremy Lin's true intentions towards Amare
Obi Abata Cast: Obita
Obi Abata Meaning: Living at peace (unbalanced)
Q6: What Sacred Odu reflects Jeremy Lin's true intentions towards Amare?
Sacred Odu Cast: Ogunda.
Sacred Odu Meaning: Hard work, tunnel-vision, dynamic creativity and singleness of purpose.

Collective interpretation of the Obi Abata and Sacred Odu: Again, we see Jeremy with a desire to live at
peace with a superstar, but handicapped in how to go about it. However, Jeremy is determined
to make it work with Amare.

Q7: What is the Obi Abata matrix surrounding Amare's true intentions towards Jeremy Lin?
Obi Abata Cast: Ejire
Obi Abata Meaning: Friendliness and friendship (BALANCED)
Q8: What Sacred Odu reflects Amare's true intentions towards Jeremy Lin? Sacred Odu Cast: Iwori
Sacred Odu Meaning: Greater introspection that leads to positive results

Collective interpretation of the Obi Abata and Sacred Odu: Stat wants to be a good friend to Jeremy, he enjoys his
company and this bond between he and Jeremy will only get stronger!

Q9: What is the Obi Abata matrix surrounding Amare, Mello, Landry, Chandler and Lin to work successfully on the floor
as a cohesive team at the same time.
Obi Abata Cast: Ogbe.
Obi Abata Meaning: The big bang--Incredible Intensity--New Beginnings! (unbalanced).

Q10: What Sacred Odu reflects the energy surrounding Amare, Mello, Landry, Chandler and Lin to work successfully on the floor at the same time Sacred Odu Cast: Ogbe.
Sacred Odu Meaning: The big bang--Incredible Intensity--New Beginnings! (unbalanced)

Collective interpretation of the Obi Abata and Sacred Odu: In accordance with Afolabi A. Epega & Olawo Phillip John Neimark book, "The Sacred Ifa Oracle," Ogbe "speaks of light, good general welfare, victory over enemies, spiritual awakenings, long life and peace of mind. [Ogbe] is the most important Odu. It symbolizes the masculine principle and is therefore regarded as the father of the Odus" (1). What this means for us as Knick fans is we finally have a team that will kick ass and take names. This starting 5 combination will have "long life," with "victory" over
our opponents. In other words, good Karma between these guys is visceral!

Overall Opinion on The Knicks: To say that Jeremy Lin's impact on the social matrix of the NBA in a positive light--is underrated.I remember a time when a black man was seen as incapable of playing QB in the NFL because he was MENTALLY INFERIOR, but having ATHLETIC SUPERIORITY with his body. In fact, if he did captain the ship, the media would call him the "black qb" of the particular team. To further fuel the label of being second to a white quarterback. Conversely, the Taiwanese, Vietnamese, Laotian, Korean, Chinese, Japanese, and other people indigenous to the South Pacific are generally seen as MENTALLY SUPERIOR and incapable of ATHLETIC SUPERIORITY, especially when it comes to "BALLIN" in the NBA: PHEWY! Lin is proving everyone wrong. May the doors of racial stereotypes be busted from its hinges.

I don't know if my thirst to see the Knicks win a championship will be quenched in 2012, but from the
African divination done on this team, the unseen forces surrounding this situation paints a mystical aura of positive vibrations around the Knicks. This divination indicates what we have in him is long term, but, most importantly--the belief that Mello and Lin won't be able to play together is false. As Knick fans lets enjoy riding the wave of LINSANITY, the way our foremothers and forefathers enjoyed another athlete named Jackie Robinson break down barriers and achieve greatness.

Next, I will post on gameday what vibrations surround our beloved Knicks as they battle the
World Champion Dallas Mavericks....
Best Regards

I’ve explored the I-Ching and it is too complicated with all the straws. Some like to use pennies to cast, but according to a 1st Edition book I read—this is frowned upon. I actually did the cast, but I welcome your “benefit of the doubt.” We live in murky times and there are many scam artists out there…I am not and I only joined this forum and chose to cast Obi Abata, to give us as Knick fans something to consider. How long I will do this…I don’t know

Lin may be the exception that proves the rule
Conversely, the Taiwanese, Vietnamese, Laotian, Korean, Chinese, Japanese, and other people indigenous to the South Pacific are generally seen as MENTALLY SUPERIOR and incapable of ATHLETIC SUPERIORITY, especially when it comes to “BALLIN” in the NBA: PHEWY! Lin is proving everyone wrong.

Are you implying that Lin is mentally inferior and athletically superior? I don’t think so. This man has an astronomically high basketball IQ, and he is a Harvard graduate so that stereotype, the good one for asians, remains as strong as ever.
What is most amazing probably to most of us is that he can compete physically at this level, so yes he smashes that stereotype to little bitty pieces. But at the end of the day he is still only one guy in a 90% black.league. I am sure he will inspire more Asian kids to play basketball and succeed, but I don’t think the racial balance is likely to change much any time soon.

Lin Your Face Calderon... JFL

by YuckFou on Feb 17, 2012 4:20 AM EST reply actions

No, I am not implying that Lin is mentally inferior and athletically superior. I am comparing how in the past, the Black athlete was stereotyped as being mentally inferior to play the position of QB and only capable of playing a position which called for him to excell athletically: the Running Back, The Wide Receiver, etc. Likewise, Lin was not given the chance at the point guard position due to the stereotype launched against his ethnicity of being too brainy and not a baller. What I mean is, most basketball fans give the players on Harvard, Princeton, etc the props for being smart guys—but would not recognize them for having the skills to BALL in the NBA. Deeper still, this stereotype against Lin was amplified because of his race. What I wanted my post to say was that Lin is proving that he is not only intelligent but athletically superior to BALL in the NBA. Let me qualify the SUPERIOR in my sentence. I don’t don’t mean this from a racial standpoint. I mean it from a fan standpoint that anyone that laces up sneakers to play for pay—is a superior athlete…I hope this makes sense and this is why I choose to leave the analytical writing to SETH…..

The Mystical Energies Encompassing Our Newest Knick - J.R. Smith

Yesterday, the Post and Toast Contributor “FUHRY” requested an insight into J.R. Smith Becoming A New York Knick. Below is the information I gathered:

Q1: What is the Obi Abata matrix surrounding the J.R. Smith tonight: EJIRE (unbalanced)
Obi Abata Meaning: Friendliness and Relationships.

Q2: What is the Sacred Odu surrounding the J.R. Smith tonight: IWORI
Sacred Odu Meaning: Greater introspection that leads to positive results.

Collective interpretation of the Obi Abata and Sacred Odu: J.R., is insecure about how he will fit into the Knicks, and NYC, but this imbalance of energy will become balanced once he figures it out through deep contemplation.

Q3: What is the Obi Abata matrix surrounding the J.R. Smith’s impact on the Knicks chemistry: AKITA (unbalanced)
Obi Abata Meaning: Success after hardship.

Q4: What is the Sacred Odu surrounding the J.R. Smith impact on the Knicks chemistry: IRETE
Sacred Odu Meaning: Dealing with everyday pressure.

Collective interpretation of the Obi Abata and Sacred Odu: JR’s ability to impact the Knicks new chemistry will be successful but it won’t come easy—he will struggle in Coach “Ds” system. Adding to this, is the fact that he is dealing with the everyday pressure surrounding coming to the Knicks, and his ability to deal with the pressure
cooker that is New York will challenge him; therefore, we have an athlete in crisis but who also has the potential to help the Knicks.

Q5: What is the Obi Abata matrix surrounding the Knick’s impact
on J.R. Smith to become part of the team chemistry: AKITA (unbalanced)
Obi Abata Meaning: Success after hardship.

Q6: What is the Sacred Odu surrounding thesurrounding the Knick’s impact
on J.R. Smith to become part of the team chemistry: OTURA
Sacred Odu Meaning: Peace, mildness, calmness

Collective interpretation of the Obi Abata and Sacred Odu: As a team, the Knick players and coaching staff will struggle overall to have JR adapt to their style of play—but the Knicks impact on him will be successfull. After they achieve this success, JR will achieve a peace-of-heart on being a NY Knick.

Overall Opinion: This is a young man that wants to make it in the City where Frank said “If I can make it here, I can make it anywhere.” Carmello will have a great deal to do with his success, as I am sure it was Carmello who convinced JR to come here. I am sure Mello will take him under his wings. NOTE: I want to publicly give Mello kudos for being the one who went to Coach D and said take a look at Jeremy.

Later on in the day I will post divination results on the Knicks vs. Hornets tonight…

Best Regards
