Jay-Z and Ratner's 100th Problem: Thank You, J Lin! (smooch)
As a Brooklynite who has been disgusted with the Bruce Ratner land grab of public space to create an arena that will worsen Bklyn's crappy traffic, crowded subways, over-population, and over-taxed schools while making Ratner and his Russian ziillionaire sugardaddy of ill repute lots of cash, I would like to thank Jeremy Lin profusely.
Bruce Ratner, who has lost tons on his Nets deal, probably thought that as long as the Knicks sucked as bad as JD & the Straight Shot (James Dolan's laughable blues band: CD sales rank on Amazon: #328,936, which I think is actually quite high for such sonic drivel), he would have an easy time wooing fans.
As much as I hate Ratner for closing the legendary Freddy's, f**king up traffic and giving very little back to the community, the fact is there were plenty of disgusted Brooklynites who, horrified by Dolan's horrendous teams, were ready to make a switch.
So every time J Lin has a great pass, great shot, great steal, great win, it's hard not to think happily about greedy bastard Ratner, choking on his caviar and crackers as that Brooklyn fan base re-embraces the Knicks. Alleged Nets pimp Jay-Z can't be too happy, either.
Today I was in a Bklyn Model's -- just outside the new arena. And guess what? Lin shirts were everywhere and people were scooping 'em up. I saw a guy outfitting his whole family with 17's.
Remember, Brooklyn has TWO Chinatowns (Sunset Park and burgeoning Ave. U). So this Lin thing is going to dominate the borough. It sucks to root against your hometown, but in an era of over-crowded schools, the transit system engaged in doublespeak ('improving non-stop'? Are you f-ing kidding me?), the land for the arena should never have been given up for a project that, judging from similar urban renewal arenas, is not going to work.
So again, thank you, Jeremy Lin, for punishing Ratner, re-establishing the idea of meritocracy, exposing racism in player evaluations, and most importantly, bringing team basketball back to New York.
Now, if you can somehow help us get Dolan off the Knicks...

If you think about it
Brooklyn is perfect for the Nets. They are the quintessential “hipster” franchise and you know what they say about hipsters in Brooklyn…there’s a lot of them
GO CUSE, BLUE, AND EAGLES!
I only support eminent domain land grabs ironically!

They are the quintessential "hipster" franchise
I know the word hipster has lost all meaning, but… what?
they're the nets
they get scored on a lot
that’s so postmodern!

then wtf was Ratner thinking?
I dream of Eddy Curry feeding me fish sticks.

Brooklyn is now hipster central
there will always be diehard Knicks fans everywhere in NY, but the hipsters will wagon to whatever’s there.

LOL okay bro..if brooklyn is so bad why does dwight want to play there?
and if you think jeremy lin is the real deal…..LOL that is all i just laugh

I don't know why Dwight "wants" to play there...
I don’t really think Deron’s all that psyched, either, when the party is going on across the river.
As for Lin, if you are a doubter…LOLROLF, the numbers and videotape speak for themselves. If you think it’s all a mistake, well, there’s a bridge that Ratner can sell you…
I used to like the Nets, too. Just not in my back yard, man.
Deron Williams is the type of asshole that gets a coach like Sloan to quit
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
Sloan, Williams, Kevin O' Connor, and Greg Miller all denied that that happened.
But please, continue to believe it did.
I think it's fine.

yes, and believing what they said to the media makes more sense
Williams is an asshole, plain and simple.
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
Okay, buddy.
Believe in your own opinion over the facts presented by those directly involved with the situation. You guys will be calling Deron an asshole for a long time, and that’s A OK by me.
I think it's fine.

yes...those are facts.
LOL.

I can only laugh at all the "Mela" posts over at NetsDaily.
I dream of Eddy Curry feeding me fish sticks.
Look at it Dave. Look at it.
It's very rare that someone refers to him as "Mela"
2011-2012 season prediction: 22-44
And I'm fine with that. One of the original leaders of the "Dwight Howard, not Nono Hilario" movement.
I guess there was just a disproportionate number of those posts in the Renaldo thread, though I've often seen it elsewhere.
Though it was more symptomatic of the inferiority complex over there than anything.
I dream of Eddy Curry feeding me fish sticks.
Look at it Dave. Look at it.
We traded for a better player, gave up less.
There really is no reason for us to be constantly talking about him.
I'd have thought there'd be no reason, too.
Then again I’d say the same about the Knicks.
I dream of Eddy Curry feeding me fish sticks.
Look at it Dave. Look at it.
Deron just lived through the Nets experience
He is keeping it quie, but he ain’t going to be around next year. Even if they have Howard and Willaims, they would still be 2 starters and 2 bench players from a playoff team.
Lopez is a no 4 option on a good team, who does not rebound or block shot, he is a poor man’s Eddy Curry, except he is softer, has less scoring skills and rebound less (and I through that was not possible)
Humphries would be an ok bench rebounder and Brooks might be a good 6th man one day, apart from that no one on that team would make a playoff team rotation.
Williams knows how much talent is there, he also cannot wait for the season to end
cuz he's not gonna say the right things
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
Howard turns any team in the NBA into a playoff team.
Deron + Howard would be an amazing pairing. At the same time I don’t think it’ll happen. Unless Deron takes the gamble & resigns with Nets first, I don’t see why Howard would go there.
Howard has already spent years @ Orlando where they failed to get decent talent around him. Now that he can pick his spot, I’d expect him to go somewhere where there is at least one all-star level talent.
does Dwight want to play there?
you lying
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
I’d be surprised if he still wants to play there. I think that was before the season started and before he realized how bad they are, how good Orlando is, and before the Knicks and Jeremy Lin have grabbed the whole attention of the nation, let alone New York.
Proud owner of over 20,000 comments. (most of them in the wrong place) Oh yeah, and Buster Posey
LOL
Yea more taxes, horrible winters, and a crappy team.
Yup. The perfect destination for Dwight.
Linning and Winning!
Dwight wants toget out of Orlando, but you miss the point
The hoops fans in Bklyn are all Knicks fans, essentially what you will get is a bunch of interlopers coming into Brooklyn, instead of Brooklynites embracing the Nets. My cousin is as big a Knicks fan as I am and he lives walking distance from where the Nets will play and dude has already said, he will still be getting his ass on the train and going to the “Garden.”

The Net's haters are the funniest
All they do now is try to prove that Lin will stop playing at this level and that his career will be over in a month or two. Meanwhile, we’re here saying “Who the fuck knows what can happen after we just witnessed this” and enjoying the moment.
And I didn’t know that it would hurt the community. There’s no doubt in my mind that Jay-Z was mainly responsible for taking the Nets over to Brooklyn, it’s his hometown.

He’s been pretty good so far, I wish them the best as long as they’re not playing against us. I think Lin is the next Tony Parker, and I’m probably being overly optimistic. It’s what fandom will do to people.

Marshon Brooks is actually pretty good
I mean his D could use some work and he has a hell of a lot of balls to be hogging the ball the way he does as a rookie but he has promise as long as he remains focused on getting better.

the thing is there
is so little talent on the Nets that to get to 85 poings, they need 25 from Deron and 12-15 form another 4 players. Those players have been Humphries, Marrow and Brooks
It is more out of necessity for the Nets to use Brooks, if he was on any other team he would not be starting and would get 5-10 minute per game. The Nets keep shooting under 40% there is a reason for that
And then Jeremy Lin got torched by Deron
by William_H_HOLLA on Feb 21, 2012 12:11 AM EST reply actions
Deron was impressive.
I can’t help thinking that Shumpert (and some actual coaching—three new guys in the lineup? Is that gonna work? Really?) would have made a difference. Stat and Melo didn’t help the cause either. Prediction: When you add up the +/-, Lin will kick Deron’s butt at the end of the year.
prediction: you don't watch the NBA that much

Ratner has no idea or any involvment with the future Brooklyn Nets. It is M.Porkorov’s team and it will be done right.
Ratner is ow the builder and the Nets are the tenant.
The team has the salary cap down and options to make smart trades. The problem lies with the current GM/B.King whom I don’t really think has it as a GM. The guy was a pretty good player back his day. But as a Business GM I do question his moves.
Maybe they should hire me and I will get it right for the team. You can be my assistant towards success in Brooklyn. Because you move out of Brooklyn now because it bothers you so much. Maybe Newark is your kind of place to open up another Freddy’s.
I would keep the following players:
B.Lopez/K.Humphries/Shawne Williams/Sheldon Williams/M.Brooks/S.Gaines/D.James
Would package the following players towards trades:
D.Williams/J.Farmar/A.Morrow/J.Williams/D.Stevenson/J.Petro/M.Okur
Go after the following players available through trades/free agency
W.Chandler/SF O.J.Mayo/SG-PG D.Cousins/PF T.Mozgov/C K.Hinrich/PG S.Novak/PF R.Lopez/C C.Budinger/SG-SF R.Felton/PG
Then you can come back to Brooklyn to root our Brooklyn Nets on.
I will root for the New york Knickerbockers only if they fire the whole D’Antoni coaching staff.
I wish you luck rebuilding
But I don’t care who the owner is. The Nets were the bait to sucker the City of New York into giving a very rich, greedy man an incredible amount of prime real estate for nothing, while giving back nothing. The low income housing? Where is that? And Tsar P is going to be paying off RATner’s loan interest for years to come. So screw them both. Brooklyn needs schools and road work and transit — all of which would provide jobs and money. Not a frigging layup for rich developers.
Last year someone gave me 12th row “corporate” seats to a Yankee game. The face value was $350. So let’s go to the tape on this:
Steinbrenner gets the land and a bond to build a huge cash machine of a stadium thanks to the generous city of NY.
Then he charges huge prices, most of which are purchased by corporate entities, which then write the price of the tickets off as “entertainment expenses.” WTF?
This is a huge circular boondoggle. And guess who loses?
You and me and, yes, though I hate to say it, 99% of this country who consider ourselves lucky if we can sit in the cheap seats or just afford cable.
Dolan is the worst owner in America. But the Knicks are in my blood. And at least he hasn’t tried to sucker the city into paying for his private ATM. yet.
But how can OJ Mayo play for the Knicks and Nets both?!
I will root for the New york Knickerbockers only if they fire the whole D’Antoni coaching staff.
Wait you promise?
I dream of Eddy Curry feeding me fish sticks.
Look at it Dave. Look at it.
AWWW Dizzy I am gonna miss you!
Seriously dude I’ll be in Bklyn next weekend you still owe me that beer, so Holla!

GM position. Read about what they do with sign-and -trades or other cap reducing moves. It might make your retorts more intelligent.

Heh
You seemingly have absolutely no idea what the Lakers’ salary cap situation is like, nor any clue about sign-and-trades and their practicality in the latest CBA.
Go do your homework before posting, seriously.
Oh BTW...
…if you just don’t get it, let me give you a few hints.
1) You need two teams to pull off a sign-and-trade.
2) The team picking up the free agent needs leverage over the team losing the free agent.
3) There are no incentives for the team losing the free agent to sign-and-trade him away unless the alternative is to lose him for nothing.
4) So unless the team who plans on picking him up has cap space to sign him outright, there IS no leverage for that team, and no reason for the other team to make the trade.
