Amar’e ain’t right for a multitude of reasons, but you teams won’t be able to solely focus on stopping Lin. Melo and JR both getting in the groove and this thing could get dangerous

So just to get some perspective

Amare is playing as bad as I’ve ever seen him, Carmelo’s on the bench, our backup PG didn’t play…and we handled the defending NBA Champs, who are playing great basketball this season. Sound about right?

This team will be so, so amazing when Melo comes back. All along a lot of people were saying that what this team needed was a PG, and they were right.

Don’t want to rain on the parade, but Lin sat for all of 2:50 tonight. We looked terrible without him, but we desperately need a backup PG if we want to keep winning. Baron needs to get ready ASAP.

He needs to work on his hops. We should rest him a bit like they did with dirk, but like a game or two going into the all star break so he gets his legs back.

by lololol on Feb 19, 2012 3:43 PM EST up reply actions

He'll be fine

Its obvious he is still suffering from the back operation. There is just no lift. I mean last year he was pretty explosive and now he looks as though he has lost a couple of inches on his vertical. Thus all the blocks. He’ll get it back and in this offense, we can just stay at the elbow and pop his midrange.

It's weird how I don't really mind if the Nets have success. Good for them.

But the amount of vitriol generated on that site for the Knicks turns the corner from “vaguely unsettling” to “hilariously bitter”. Not really sure what other reaction I’m supposed to have with it.

by GAx on Feb 19, 2012 4:10 PM EST up reply actions

I'm with you, man

I never really had any dislike for the Nets. I was happy for them when they were succeeding with Kidd. But man, the Nets Daily users are so nuts you can’t help but think negative thoughts about them. I honestly had no idea until I went on that site how much Nets fans hate the Knicks.

by Joamiq on Feb 19, 2012 4:13 PM EST up reply actions   2 recs

The thing is a lot of my friends are casual fans who started their fandom with the Nets during the Kidd years.

With a couple more hardcore fans mixed in. Nobody hates the Knicks. They gave me shit when the Knicks sucked, but they’re all honestly hyped about the Knicks winning right now.

Of course we’re all also asian so that’s probably the bulk of it haha.

I dream of Eddy Curry feeding me fish sticks.

Look at it Dave. Look at it.

by GAx on Feb 19, 2012 4:20 PM EST up reply actions

See, that's how it should be

I mean, not hating, not everyone being Asian, haha. Nets and Knicks fans don’t really have any reason to hate each other’s teams. And yet over at Nets Daily you can’t read more than a few comments without seeing people talk about how much they hate the Knicks.

by Joamiq on Feb 19, 2012 4:29 PM EST up reply actions

I really don't get why they hate the Knicks

The Knicks and Nets have never really been contenders at the same time. It’s not like we was an NBA championship at their expense, or vice versa.

A lot of them care. A lot.

by GAx on Feb 19, 2012 5:00 PM EST up reply actions

That's a rather irrational reason for more coverage

No one cares (outside of Nets fans) about a team that won a lot of playoff games several years ago but sucks today. It’s mind numbing to think that this isn’t immediately obvious.

eh. it's a zero-sum game to want any attention from the media.

Apparently we get a shitload of coverage, but how many of us here complain that it’s all negative(even though it is)? The national and local media loves to shit on the team. I don’t think NJ fans really want that.

Careful what you wish for.

by GAx on Feb 19, 2012 5:10 PM EST up reply actions

I hate getting a lot of coverage

It’s kind of annoying seeing Lin on ESPN every 5 minutes because I wish the attention was off him and we could just respect and love how he plays ball.

Likewise, with all the national coverage, you get even more people with opinions. I went to a party Friday night and I can’t even put a number on how many people I heard (stupidly) talking about the Knicks and Jeremy Lin. And it just makes it that much harder to bite your tongue, though I’m happy to say I did.

by Joamiq on Feb 19, 2012 5:11 PM EST up reply actions

Yup.

We had rivalries with the Bulls (well, they probably thought it was less of a rivalry), then Pacers, then Heat, because we repeatedly met these teams in the playoffs, and there was all kinds of bad blood between the teams. That’s never been the case for the Knicks and the Nets. I do not at all mind when the Nets are successful. But to be honest, just because of Nets Daily, I do snicker these days when the Nets are hapless.

by Joamiq on Feb 19, 2012 4:37 PM EST up reply actions

I think it'll be a "who has the hot hand?" sort of deal

Like tonight, Shump and Fields played poor second halves, but JR and Novak were creating offense and playing good D. You have to expect Melo and Lin will be out there to close the game, but some nights JR and Fields might have it going, other nights it might be Novak and Stoudemire, etc.

It wasn’t like he was unconscious from the field out there. He had a good, solid JR Smith type game. He hit some difficult shots but also missed some easy looks. He also hasn’t practiced with the team so he was kind of lost out there.

Jeffries is definitely Pippin

His mistakes and flaws are endearing, and he comes in handy when people don’t realize it.

JR's defense was good!

And that was biggest question about him. Plus, he was a willing and accurate passer. Great stuff.

Stat, poor Stat — looked lost at times, moving in slow motion, didn’t hit a SINGLE jumper (except the one that didn’t count). Gotta hope he wakes up at some point…. o/w must conclude he’s a fifth wheel on this new team.

I rather have JR replace Lin off the bench

Lin might be young but he can’t continue 40+ minutes a game

by Chiefshero on Feb 19, 2012 5:13 PM EST up reply actions

but who runs the offense then?

We don’t need Baron as desperately as we used to, but we still need him back.

being able to pass and being able to run an offense is not the same thing, though

David Lee was a great passer too. Jamal Crawford threw an entry pass in like no other. I want neither to ever initiate shit if they’re on my team because they’re not PGs.

Dantoni would look at the bench, catch Toney's hopeful eyes

and then turn around and leave Lin lying prone on the Knicks logo at half court. We need another PG, but I don’t know if JR is the answer. Hopefully Baron makes this all moot this week.

You want to win the lottery twice?

Only reason why Lin was in D-league in the first place was the stereotype agains Asian ppl not being able to ball. Also, the coach was under pressure to perform. Also, he’s from Harvard. Also, he came from a trade as grass fodder.

Putting him into D-league is like putting a shark in a koi pond. KIndah obvious you’ve got a giant shark in your pond.

Then again, Terrence Williams went to the D-League.

Fucked around, got a triple double.

"Find another Lin?"

No. The whole Linsanity thing exists because it is a once in a generation type of story. There won’t be another Lin. Enjoy the one that we have.

J.R. is a very good player, but Baron is a far superior solution to be our backup PG. We know that he can run D’Antoni’s offense. J.R. will probably not do well in that role because he has little experience as a point guard, and because he’s not the type of player who will quickly learn the role in time for the playoffs.

Agree

Esp on back-to-backs, like tomorrow. The offense DISAPPEARED without Lin on the floor. Scary. MUST get a backup PG ASAP. That’s the biggest remaining hole right now.

by JR99 on Feb 19, 2012 5:15 PM EST up reply actions

I think JR could be a good PG

he has skills, quickness, and willing to pass

it’s a good sub until baron gets back

by Chiefshero on Feb 19, 2012 5:15 PM EST up reply actions

Interesting thought

Not what he’s done before… but you’re right, he seems to have the skills. Beats the hell out of Shump as PG.

yo JR99, have you seen how Julyan Stone is playing in Denver?

Is he as good a distributor as his rep says?

idk

haven’t seen him in action much…….

by JR99 on Feb 19, 2012 5:28 PM EST up reply actions

JR's D was even great at times!- he showed his athelticism a lot today

he’s got fantastic hands and is very quick. I love the signing. I can even deal with a few chucks here and there because he’s a good enough shooter to make those

by DonMoosavi on Feb 19, 2012 5:13 PM EST up reply actions

stat looks lost

because he doesn’t wanna fuck it up plus he’s dealing with a lot. it’ll come in due time

by renovator on Feb 19, 2012 5:17 PM EST up reply actions

It's possible

Knicks are only STARTING to get their act together…. Jorts and Melo still coming back, Stat still gonna wake up one day (hopefully), and Lin still learning. By May, Knicks could be as good as it gets.

by JR99 on Feb 19, 2012 5:17 PM EST up reply actions

Jorts may have a tough time seeing the floor

but he’ll definitely contribute. I wonder if he can learn the pick n roll

by DonMoosavi on Feb 19, 2012 5:18 PM EST up reply actions

he could replace stat

would have been nice to have him today

by Chiefshero on Feb 19, 2012 5:21 PM EST up reply actions

Stat will replace Stat

If he ever shows up

(crossing fingers… i like stat)

by JR99 on Feb 19, 2012 5:35 PM EST up reply actions

I like stat too

but he’s not in his right mind right now

by Chiefshero on Feb 19, 2012 5:37 PM EST up reply actions

agreed.

but if Melo comes back and fits in…I think STAT would be odd man out.

There I said it.

One of James Dolan or Donald Sterling would get a ring. Somehow that’s just not fair.

Even if they win in Detroit

….take a look at their upcoming schedule. They’re gonna get murdered out there…. Cs are done. Rebuild coming.

by JR99 on Feb 19, 2012 5:21 PM EST up reply actions

except ray allen can shoot

or we could get rondo and get a legit PG

by Chiefshero on Feb 19, 2012 5:33 PM EST up reply actions

Nah

Allen will be hitting 3s when he’s 50. (Not kidding.) But… his defense has fallen off, so that now, Novak’s the better choice, believe it or not.
