Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

"The only thing [Tuesday] night proved is I could get one good night’s sleep this week. That’s the only thing that happened. Other than that, we’re still 8-13 and the posse is after me, so I’m running as fast as I can run. Hopefully I can turn this posse into a parade. That’s my focus. I’m working as hard as I can work.’’

Going 2-1 these next three nights would be muy bueno

Going 1-2 or 0-3 would be not so bueno. Particularly an 0-3 stretch would probably put D’Antoni on the chopping block I imagine

He's had my support ever since he came here

And I still hope he gets a chance to show everybody what he’s capable of.

He has my full support as well

i know with time and the right personel he can right this ship. I do believe he has a better team (when Baron gets healthy) than the ones in Phoenix. Thats no slight to Nash and them because they were on the unlucky end of the western conf. loss to the lakers. With a FULL season with this team and a possible role player for our second pick and i dont see why we wont contend for the east.

i have never been a dantoni fan but...

im starting to feel bad for the guy..he’s never exactly had a complete team that was at least similar to his teams in phx…but on the other hand as a coach you have to adjust…but the players have to walk the walk after doing the talk as well..im hoping we can get some stability at the pg position. I love shump but he’s not ready to take that leap yet..he was baptized by fire..hes gotta learn to play the position at the nba level…i think he can be a taller kyle lowry once he gets things figure out..i see glimpses of the pg ability..if he can see the court 20/20 and develop a shot like lowry did …he can be that guy.

By the way Welcome Spike

but I disagree that as a coach you must adjust. I know the media and fans are big on saying that, however if you look at NBA coaches those who coach for any length of time tend to be rigid. If Phil Jackson came in here and coached the Knicks right now, what would he do? He would run the triangle offense. And if it didn’t work, he would turn to Dolan and Grunwald and tell them get me guys who can play my system. Red Auerbach didn’t change his system, he got players who could play his style and if you couldn’t you got traded. Even Red Holzman did not adjust to his talent. He came in here and said here is my system and then when certain players showed that they either couldn’t or wouldn’t play the way he wanted them to, he had them traded and replaced with guys who could give him what he wanted. He didn’t just have bench guys traded but all-stars as well. Bellamy got shipped out of town even though he was an all-star because he refused to play Red’s offense.

If you have noticed it is only loser franchises that keep talking about coaches adjusting to the talent. Competent NBA franchises hire a coach and then get that coach players who fit his system. D’Antoni has been here 4 years now, he should have a team that can play his style of ball by now if Dolan and crew had a clue. Chicago hired Tom Thibodeau and then they didn’t exactly go out and trade for David Lee and Bargnani now did they. Why because those guys do not play defense. You hire a defensive coach you get defensive players. The last Knicks coach who can really say he came in the door and the team went out and got him players to fit the style of ball he wanted to coach was Pat Riley.

Thanks man!

U make a very good point! And I respectfully agree, u are right… I did catch because I realized he had the building blocks of his system in place.. But Dolan blew it up quite a bit.. Like I said I was never a huge fan of his but the more I look at it it’s a bit unfair.. U are right about the adjustments thing, all those coaches had pieces, they also didn’t have a hounding rich brat owner that was control freak.

don't mangle the triangle

As Bill Walton would say “Life is about adjusting.” First, the triangle is a proven winner. D’antoni’s system has never made a finals. Second, Phil was master of adjusting. Went from a guard in the post of triangle (jordan) to Shaq in the post and made it work. And let us not forget 1994 when Jordan is taking batting practice and he takes Pipen and Bulls up against our beloved knicks (and if hubert davis doesn’t get a nice call, well who knows what happens there) So I think its unfair to say Phil wouldn’t adjust.

by knicksr1 on Feb 2, 2012 2:24 PM EST up reply actions

The Triangle wasn't a proven winner when Phil first introduced it

yet The Jerry’s in Chicago got him players to fit the offense. Secondly Phil is not the master of adjusting if you knew what the “Triangle” was then you would know that having a center who could score in the low post fit the offense. All Phil did was call the same plays he called for Luc Longley more frequently. And as for the 1994 Bulls Scottie Pippen is a HOFer for a reason. Toni Kukoc skills fit the Triangle perfectly, and Horace Grant didn’t exactly suck. The Bulls were an extremely deep and talented team, you seem to forget that. Jordan was the best player in the league but Pippen was considered the 5th Best. so loosing the best and having to relay on the 5th best to step into that role isn’t much of an adjustment.
By the way the real name for the Triangle offense is the “Triple” post offense. It allows you to get a post up for any combination of three players at any given time.

Let's go....let's go....let's go

your gonna hear that alot on the “wired” parts on TNT tonight

You just got Tysoned!!!!!!

by Jason Bee on Feb 2, 2012 11:41 AM EST reply actions

The coaches know they're wired

I doubt they’ll start to talk about the Xs and Os of the offense on national T.V. It’s usually a short time-out as well, I don’t get how people can read into this too much.

nope

not true….you actually do hear alot of coaches talking strategy during these “wireds”. They are wired the whole game….they don’t know exactly which timeouts TNT, or any network is gonna broadcast what they say

You just got Tysoned!!!!!!

by Jason Bee on Feb 2, 2012 1:24 PM EST up reply actions

True

But you could also argue about the picking and choosing which timeout they broadcast. D’Antoni might’ve said something interesting the time-out before, but they air the one where he says that the team should just keep shooting and keep pushing and keep trying and let’s go go go!

Nice idea

There is no quit in MDA. He works for probably the 3rd worst owner in the league, has a star added by management that completely wrecks the team both by giving away the store AND getting a guy who just does not get his offense…and the guy never bad mouths anyone, never looks to make an excuse or whine. Go Mike!

by I know smart people on Feb 2, 2012 1:35 PM EST up reply actions

Damn Mike you sound paranoid as hell and that is not good folks

Paranoid Mike shortens his rotations, screams at his players to play faster and plays his starters until their legs fall off. All those bench guys you folks want to see spin, might as well buy a ticket cause no way in hell they play. Novak, Bibby, Lin stay the fuck away from D’antoni tonight. Don’t even look at him like you want to play, cause He might kill you right there on the bench. I can hear him now, you want to do what? Fuck you, do you not see that angry mob carrying the nooses? it’s not your neck that is gonna be at the end of that rope it’s mine. Amare I don’t give a shit that your ankle hurts and you knee and back are bothering you get the fuck back out there. You want a rest there are these things called TV timeouts, get your rest then. You too melo, fuck you both, you sons of bitches got yours, now I am trying to save my ass. Boy come to think of it maybe they shouldn’t mic D’Antoni tonight.

it's funny

how the report is saying “if and when they lose the next two games” like it’s definately a given they will lose them…..I mean they probably will lose them, but I’m just saying

OOOps I apologize i forgot

sorry to feed into your fetish for little White men Yelling at Big black ones and calling it motivation. Maybe D’Antoni should be allowed to bring a Bullwhip and Shackles to the game. The you would think he was a great coach!

Boy you must have been sad the day the let Larry Brown go!

“maybe you missed it but if i recall correctly, it happened”

huh??

you brought up the dantoni screaming at his players stuff…maybe that gets YOU off…

You just got Tysoned!!!!!!

by Jason Bee on Feb 2, 2012 4:11 PM EST up reply actions

and just because I don't think dantoni is the coach for this team

or a good coach for that matter…you shouldn’t “assume” how I felt about other coaches like LB..or “assume” that I think Phil is coming to coach this team…easy…

You just got Tysoned!!!!!!
