A Thread For All-Star Saturday Night
Evening, hares! Hope y'all have had pleasant Saturdays and haven't eaten any bugs or children by accident. Tonight is the second and (in my opinion) best day of All-Star weekend. The Knicks, unfortunately, aren't as involved in today's activities as they were supposed to be, but they will make an appearance. There isn't really a set schedule for tonight, but here's the order (and brief description, slightly updated by me) of events, beginning at 8 PM:
Shooting Stars - Teams of NBA, WNBA and retired players in a shooting contest.
Skills Challenge - Guards navigate an 'obstacle course', Stephen Curry won in 2011.
Three-Point Contest - James Jones defends title against Mario Chalmers, Kevin Love, Joe Johnson, Anthony Morrow and Joe Johnson.
Slam Dunk Contest - Chase Budinger,Iman ShumpertJeremy Evans, Derrick Williams and Paul George participate.
Landry Fields, Allan Houston, and Cappie Pondexter will be doing the Shooting Stars thing, so that's cool. Iman Shumpert, of course, will sit out the Dunk Contest. 'Tis a shame, but Jeremy Evans, his replacement, is pretty awesome. I'm looking forward to that.
That's all! Comment along here if you're watching.

I’m embarrassed for the NBA that they didn’t see fit to invite Steve Novak for the three point shooting contest. I know they’ll lose many in the NY area because of it.
Proud owner of over 20,000 comments. (most of them in the wrong place) Oh yeah, and Buster Posey
I agree 100%
Especially since they saw fit to put TWO guys from the Heat on the roster. Mario Chalmers? Really?

Also, you all should be rooting for Anthony Morrow to win the 3 point contest
He’ll be wearing the late Drazen “Basketball Mozart” Petrovic’s jersey. Pretty good stuff.

Thank god I'm going to be working tonite.
Last thing I want to see is a dunk contest with white guys.
Plus that white guy is pretty amazing

The Dunk contest should be a competition between the best basketball players in the game.
Not scrubs vs. scrubs vs. Ralph Malph.
So I guess next year they’ll select Richie Cunningham.
I hope next year the dunk contest doesn't exist.

Breaking News: Allan Houston was signed by the New York Knicks and mike bibby was cut but was sent to the nearest retirement home.
It is unsure how many minutes Houston will get but it is know that he will play in the last 1:30 of each quarter. He will not start.

Carter's dunk on Lampe (or whatever his name was)
was the best dunk I’ve ever seen.
I think it was a FIBA game. Literally jumped over the guy…..
Seriously?
How old are you? That guy was Frederic Weis, who Knicks fans will remember was our first round draft pick that year before Carter destroyed him forever in one fell swoop (to the hoop).

so we can blame Vince Carter for single handedly ruining his career
AND making us look bad for picking him? i think so
oh my god Frederic fucking Weis
WHY DO I EVEN STILL KNOW HIS NAME
I dream of Eddy Curry feeding me fish sticks.
Look at it Dave. Look at it.
it wouldve been hilarious i Vince had never dunked on him like that
and he wouldve came over and dominated

the only good dunk
Was Paul George. The glowing thing actually hid some of its greatness. Nothing got me out of my seat tho and whoever compared this to Vince on air is crazy. But it was an okay dunk
I'm pretty sure Kenny's counting is pointless here
He must have practiced this a million times before, otherwise you’d be nuts to even attempt it
His eyes werent covered fully and he could see the blue line
I'm pickin up good vibrations!!!!!!!!! Lin's giving me excitations!!!!!!!!!!!

Not saying that was good
But all of Jordan, Wilkens, Erving, ect dunks would suck today
People do them all the time in the contests

kinda barely jumped over the hood
But this year I missed him a little, after being so glad he wasn’t in it
the worst dunk contest
Of all time. It’s really really sad what it’s come to, and I think they should reform it and improve it or stop doing it altogether
nah the worst one was the year with Steve Francis and they had the spinning wheel to copy old dunks
that was the worst because nobody could do the dunks the wheel gave them
I really wished shump was healthy for this.
Wanted to see the couch dunk…. i think after a year nobody will remember and he should do it
Enter The Garden of Lin
Yeah, I feel like the result would be
you might see more of the old school standard dunks, but the winner would be the one who executed them the best. So the winner would almost certainly pull off some really good looking dunks, rather than just pulling off some gimmicks.
I like it
Guys would have to get really creative to win if you get good dunkers
by KnightandDaye on Feb 25, 2012 11:33 PM EST up reply actions
let the fans vote for who should participate in the dunk contest
Lebron
Dwight
Vince Carter (has to be in it for sake of being in it)
JR Smith
Honorable Mention: Jared Jefferies and Eddie Curry
Enter The Garden of Lin
Maybe, i don't think guys should have to dunk because the fans vote them in
Paul George i want to see again because his dunks (without the fancy gimmicks) are pretty good.
Alonzo Gee, Jeremy Evans, J.R smith, John wall, Javale Mcgee, Demar DeRozan.
I can’t think of many others off the top of my head but idk rather these guys doing creative dunks and maybe the occasional gimmicky one but it shouldn’t be mandatory like it seemed like in this years contest

I bet he knows he would’ve killed the dunk contest
Next year:
Worst dribblers in the skills contest
Worst shooters in the 3 point contest
Worst dunkers in the dunk contest
It will make the events 100x more interesting
Spencer Hawes wants to be in the skills competition
Reggie said he would quit if Spence did it. IM LOBBYING FOR SPENCER HAWES NEXT YEAR!!!
That might have been the 2nd worse dunk contest of all time
I think it was 2008 that one was just uuuhhhh. And last year McGee should have one lol the Kia was under the rim and he jumped over the hood lol BS
i kinda missed Blake in this one
after last year saying “he better leave next year’s contest alone” and then being so glad he did stay out of this one
