Having a deep bench is sweet, especially in this shortened season. Since the Linsanity/Novokaine began, we've seen our second unit come in throttle opposing team's lesser units. But when the playoffs roll around, coaches are gonna push the pedal to the metal and leave in their best 5 for longer stretches, negating the advantages our deep bench provides.
While our starting lineup is great offensively, it leaves much to be desired on the other end of tLihe court. Melo is Meh, Amar'e is an absolute nightmare, Lin is quick to cut off lazy passes but has a hard time in man to man D (just look at the list of PGs who have had monster games against him), and Landry's just iight. Oh yeah, and Tyson's a beast.
But when it comes down to crunchtime, we need a lineup that can score AND play effective D. I want to see La Boffo trot out these 5 down the stretch:
On offense, Lin will make sure the ball gets distributed and of course has the sick PNR game with Chandler. Shump is dynamic as a penetrator (and maybe he'll start regaining some confidence on his jump shot soon?) If those guys can't get it done though, we throw it to Melo and let Melo do what Melo do.
On defense, we put Shump on their best wing player and let him go to work. Chandler bangs at the basket, and Jeffries does whatever we need him to. The defensive prowess of those 3 guys can mostly make up for the deficiencies of Lin and Melo.
What do you think? Who do you think should be on the floor late in the 4th quarter with the game on the line?
