wow, surprised by how well this kid played in this game against DWill too

I know it’s one game, and the M/J/Nets have no real big men playing tonight to be a shot blocking threat…but I’m just speechless… good for the kid…
hope he keeps it up, I really want a true point for the Knicks

This was no fluke

What this game proved was what a stubborn crappy coach D’Antoni is. Sure, Lin’s not going to do this every night, but he deserved this opportunity much sooner than he got it. Had he played in the Chicago game, or gotten more spin in the Celtic disaster, the outcomes might have well been different. Instead his slavish devotion to TD as PG probably cost us both games. It also has cost TD to be forced into playing out of position,

There's the one big If - NJ's front court isn't exactly formidable, and while I wouldn't

call Brooks formidable, he’s a big body….but I’d chuck the 3’s for those and 1 finishes any day – twofold as it gets 3 points and puts someone in foul trouble, loosens up the D. Flukeable maybe but def encouraging and oh so fun to watch

A void? I see no void!

by gunsbound on Feb 4, 2012 10:37 PM EST up reply actions

Lesson Round Holes/Square Pegs

L.Fields is not a starting two or three. He cannot handle the ball or score naturally.
He is backup to Carmelo at the three because he can defned and run the floor on the break from the three spot.
He also can be a spot up shooter when needed from the corner and nothing more.
Two guards are players that can shoot from anywhere, create their own shot and handle the ball when needed. Field is not this type of player as mentioned above.
So remember, he is round peg that belongs in a round hole. Which means backup small forward.
If everybody would just watch the games and listen. You will realize that D’Antoni is the problem and no business coaching with cast of clowns known as assistants.
College level and then Rucker Parck are waiting for him.
8 million dollars a year. What a damn shame of thievery.
Any NBA owner that ever hires D’Antoni is only screwing the fans over.

by Dziedzic on Feb 5, 2012 2:09 PM EST up reply actions

He doesn't need to put up 25 points every night to be a difference maker for this team

and I hope he doesn’t take 19 shots a night, though 19 slashes to the hoop for an easy layup would be fine every night! Melo and STAT will be more present in the future, and he should be able to reach double digit assists. MDA probably won’t wait, but give him another game or two off the bench and if he keeps making a difference than we should be starting him until Boom comes back, and then using him a good amount to keep the pressure of Booms back. He is clearly our best PG without Boom

It was amazing to see how Lin played. And to be honest..he didn’t do anything out of the ordinary besides get minutes with a talented cast around him. He drives to the hoop as expected..struggles to shoot as expected and impressed with his ability to timely lobs at the rim.

His night started off with multiple lobs to chandler… then he started getting to very good layups +1’s…and also some good shit from jeffries in an attempt to give amare much needed rest.

I re read my post and it dis sound like I was taking away from his performance. Which is exactly what I didn’t want to do lol. He played very well and did what pgs do: create for others and limit turnovers.

Oh yea…huge surprise in how well he defended Deron W. He only got crossed once..and even on that play he recovered and maintained decent position on the contested shot.

Well, to be fair, there is reason to worry about his driving if we face competant big men

In past performances everyone on this board has pretty much agreed that he looked the most like a PG, but he wasn’t driving strong enough or would get blocked and if he could nail that down he’d be great for us.

But I agree, most of the stuff seems like things he could replicate from now on

I take this anyday.

On a back-to-back-to-back and with some of the regular players and the stars being tired, it’s nice to have someone have a breakout game. We needed that and the stars shouldn’t have to give full 100% every game against sorry teams and they wouldn’t have to if we were deep. I said it the last two games that we would have won each game if we had 10-15 points off the bench. Tonight we had more than that and we won, and we did it even on a night where our two stars didn’t have their best games. Now I don’t expect Lin to score like this every game, and he doesn’t really need to, but it’s nice to have someone like this from the bench. He is a better point guard than TD is(never said better player) and that’s what we need. It was the Nets so I am not gonna make anything out of it but we needed this on a night like this after playing three nights straight.

He deserves more burn at the point guard position and he should get better. I remember when Moz finally saw playing time after sitting for months and he looked shaky at first. MDA was about to pull the plug after he saw the first couple of possessions but he suddenly exploded for 24 points, 12 boards and 3 blocks. Lin looked shaky during garbage time at first but tonight he played against Deron Williams(a superstar) and played a hell of a game. The kid is a better point guard than what we have currently so why not see what he can do as he gets more playing times. It’s good for him to get his playing time against sorrier teams and it will help him get accustomed. I don’t think he sucks but maybe was nervous the first few times he played as he never got much playing time in the past.

Good for him and, thanks, for the win. Gotta win more games now and keep hoping Milwaukee loses more. Who would have thought that it all comes down to Milwaukee but it has happened.

Just saw the game this morning…I’m sick that I missed it last night….GREAT job by Lin, he should have been getting playing time weeks ago. Took dantoni much too long to give him regular PT. Of course he won’t get 25 – 5 – 7 every night, but he is a competent PG. Somthing they haven’t had this year. Who said this guy was a scrub???

i mean...

he’s only been with the team for ten games… and maybe 3-5 practices tops? he’s gotten some garbage minutes and the results have been mediocre at best. then he played reasonably well against the celtics, but also got ripped by avery bradley just trying to get past half court and looked shaky in general. then he has a career night.

d’antoni gave douglas one last shot against boston, and thats fair. and its obvious now that lin will overtake douglas on the depth chart. is that not enough? he is easily going to get about 25 mins a game now. thats plenty. he’s not gonna go against a horrible defense every night.

gotta think Toney still gets burn out there

probably with Lin. We could use that accuracy he showed last year from 3, just much less dribbling – not like he dribbled too often as a PG anyway, unless he was doing his Tour de Court by running down the sideline, under the basket and back out

I'm watching the Knicks in 60 right now

granted this is against the Nets… but he’s an ACTUAL point guard. He can run a PnR, a fast break, he sees the floor, and just does all the things a PG should do at a NBA level.

If he improves on his ball handling and shooting, he could easily be a primary backup PG in this league. He’s probably around Duhon’s level.

by stingy d on Feb 5, 2012 9:26 AM EST up reply actions

Just finished watching the whole game

His jumpshot is very ugly, and eventually he’s going to have to improve on it because defenses will start defending him like Rondo. Only other nitpick I have offensively is that he should demand the ball more, there were times in the 4th where Melo would bring it down and Lin wouldn’t go get the ball. I know it’s probably too much too soon for him to be telling Melo what to do, but he’s a smart dude and a pure PG.

His defense pleasantly surprised me. He’s not good one-on-one, but he’s a veeeeery smart defender. He understands when the right moment to switch is. I’ve always wondered if the switch heavy defense is just being done wrong by our players, and if it’s the way Lin was doing it the defense would make a LOT more sense.

All in all, it was against the Nets and he’s going to be catching teams off guard. I like him because he’s easily the best option we have, and the only real PG on the roster. When Baron gets back it’ll be great, because he’ll get to play high energy for 18-24 min a game and push the tempo.

Other thing I LOVED, was seeing Shump telling his guys to give it to Lin and let him run the offense. Several times he would look at the guy who got the rebound and he would immediately point to Lin. Shump knows where he’s good, and this thoroughly excites me. He’s going to wreak havoc as the 2-man coming off the bench.

by Edelorbe on Feb 5, 2012 10:05 AM EST up reply actions

yea it was against the Nets

but Lin was going up against Deron Williams. that says something about Lin.

by blackhova on Feb 5, 2012 10:42 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

another thing

He should easily be better than both of those guys. He has Duhon’s smarts and Douglas’ speed. There’s no doubt in my mind that if given a real shot, he’ll end up being much better than both of those guys.

Defensively he’s already better than Douglas too. Douglas is more athletic, but he constantly makes mental mistakes defensively and gets beat off the dribble.

just love his vision

he didn’t seem to force anything last night. When his shot wasn’t there, someone was near the hoop for an easy shot and he found him – be it STAT, Tyson or even Jefferies

Swagg

awwe man. This is sooo sweet. Let’s not get overwhelmed though. And for the people whom say he cant do it against a formidable interior D. Look at the Celtics game, when he would drive and their bigs would collapse. I’m not saying he’ a CP3 or a Chauncey Billups, but he can be pivotal to instigating our offense, letting Shump play more off-ball and fly high like at GT. Hhhmmm, Now i wonder what Jerome Jordan can do??

If anything is possible, then isn't it possible for something to be impossible? SB1954

There are scorers off the bench!

Once B. Davis comes back, I expect Lin, Shump, Jorts, TD, and Walker to come off the bench and give 20-30 pts per game.

In Lin's post-game comments . . .

Did anyone else find it disturbing that Lin said the other night in Boston was the first time he had been on the court with Melo, STAT, and Chandler?

Very interesting . . .
