Don't panic guys... Sure any un-educated person would quickly look at losing 3 in a row, 4 out of the last 5, or 5 out of the last 7 when Melo comes back as a "Melo and Lin can't co-exist!," "Melo is a cancer" or back to the ole "Fire D'Antoni. "
But seriously look at who we've lost to.... Miami, Boston, Dallas and San Antonio (and New Jersey).... Nothing to hold your head down about... we almost beat both Boston and Dallas despite an insane amount of turnovers too. Miami is one of the most talented teams in a while (not just this season, but for the past few seasons show me a team more talented- I think you have to go back to the Shaq/Kobe Lakers personally). Boston has talent (albeit elderly talent) and Rondo went historically ape shit. The Mavs are the reigning champs and Dirk went German crazy on us in the last few minutes. The Spurs are the 2nd best team in the West and we were without our 2 best defenders (and were forced to rely on Amar'e and Jorts at C the whole game). New Jersey we should've beaten. Yes. But then again DWill was on fire. I'm not saying that we shouldn't have won some, but the truth from what I see with my own eyes watching every game this team has shown flashes of sheer brilliance and other flashes of just ugly basketball. We should've beaten Boston and Dallas but they came up bigger the end of the game. Then in San Antonio we're without probably our most important player AND his back up! It was evident throughout the whole game. The offense was actually pretty good. We put up 100+ on San Antonio (although could a lot of be considered garbage time? personally I say no) but couldn't stop them from scoring- specifically in the pick and roll (I'm looking right at you Amar'e).
Let's not ignore that Tyson has been playing injured (or been out). That's so huge on our defense. It's even worse with Jefferies being out recently.
We all know the media will paint this as "Melo and Lin can't co-exist!"... but that is not the reason we've been losing. We've been playing good teams and coming up short. No need to panic. Just breathe in, breathe out... and let these guys gel and learn to win games together. I know it's a small sample size and against bad competition but the two games against ATL and CLE were some of the most beautiful basketball I've seen all season (not just this team- the whole NBA). I know you need more than talent to win, but we have so much talent and if these guys can learn to play together, I still like our chances.
We knew that this would be a hard stretch. We've gotten through the worst part already (although with bad results...). The schedule gets a lot easier in the next 14 games. We play Milwaukee, Toronto, Philly and Indiana all twice (and I know Philly and Indy have good records, but we can definitely beat them- especially if we gel). Also Detroit, Cleveland, Orlando, Portland and Atlanta once each (some good teams but no reason we can't beat them). There's also Chicago, but we almost beat them without Lin earlier. Guys, c'mon... I know it's a lot to ask, but Seth's right... we need PATIENCE. If we don't come out of the next 14 games (which is the rest of March) above .500, then we can panic a little bit. There's no reason we can't go 10-4 on that stretch.
