Here are all the Free Agents for 2012
We are going to need to replace JR smith. Using the ASPM mapper on the godismyjudge site I mapped out all the 2.0-3.0 players (sg/sf) players that have a decent ASPM--JR smith is a 1.3 ASPM. So anyone we replace would have to accept 1-2 million dollars, have >=1.3ASPM and at least a 1.00 WP48 score. (Caveat. JR smith best results for the Knicks have been when he plays position 2.7 for us. 30% SG and 70% SF.)
Delonte West fits all this criteria. He's got .99 career wp48 that means he's a starter. On ASPM, he's a 1.95! He was paid 1 million dollars this year. He's a career 3 point shooter. He doesn't attempt as many 3s as JR smith. He doest get fouled as much either. So he's not as athletic or as good a shooting guard but he has a helluva lot more assists. The rest of his stats resemble JR Smith's. Check here for the direct showdown
What's the catch? He's bipolar. He stuck a wet finger in someone's ear. He just got fined $25,000.
He's an upgrade. He's a gamble. But he's good, he's experienced, he's 28, and he's what we can afford. He's a Defensive Rating is 1 point better than JR smith's. JR smith is 1 point higher on Offensive Rating, however.

2ND OPTION Nicholas Batum. thenbageek.com comparisons with JR smith just blow JR out the water. The only problem is that he's 23 years old. But all his stats are better than JR's--except for assists. But he's also a 3.2 million Qualifying Offer. But if we're talking about 2.5 million+ bidding--i would bid for Batum. His ASPM is 2.3 with a wp48 of 1.3.
These are the only two free agents that fit into the slot that JR smith occupies. The most important requirement is the ability to play SF and SG, the versatility comes in handy when a forward is injured. The SG ability to pose a perimeter threat as well. The ability to pass might be hard to determine due to the fact that delonte has much better teammates than Batum---but all in all i would go for Batum.
Or we go for delonte west so that we have some more money to give novak.
I am pretty sure these are the options available to Glen Grunwald.
Update: I just looked at delontes height. Yeah that's not gonna work. Explains his lack of rebounds. Although you could prolly make delonte your backup pg...
