No, the series isn't technically over... but for me, given how things have gone, I need the medicine of looking forward to dull the pain of what has been a truly distasteful past week.
I'm wondering what you guys think has been revealed by these 3 games against the heat... which would directly affect what you think needs to be done moving forward.
1) Has it been revealed that Amare and Melo absolutely can not evolve into a winning duo?
2) Has nothing been revealed because of the shortened season/no training camp/ever changing roster facts of the this year?
3) Has it been revealed that Melo is merely a scorer, is not capable of lifting a team onto his shoulders, and is not the superstar we wanted him (and needed him) to be?
4) Has it been revealed that Amare's game is done and that his body is in the advanced stages of breaking down?
The most maddening elements of this year have been the bursts... which never became our baseline. The burst when Lin did his thing. The burst when Woody and Melo, and Mobb Deep did their thing.
There have been so many games which truly uplifted my Knicks spirit, only to be doused by what became the inevitable reality of a yet again, an imbalanced roster and a management whose past decisions will continue to haunt (Amare's contract and the Melo trade).
I'm good with our new GM.... I'm even good with Captain Cadbury... but what I'm not good is the hoping. I'm tired of hoping that Melo becomes a reliable, steady team leader... I'm tired of hoping that Amare doesn't break down... and I'm tired of hoping that Melo and Amare aren't really at basketball odds behind the scenes.
I still love Jorts. I'm still heartbroken that Shump got hurt as bad as he did and I can't wait for his healthy return. I still love our true captain, Tyson Chandler... but what else is there to look forward to? I just can't see it right now with the guys we've committed to and the hamstrung roster we have.
Can any of you guys see what there is to look forward to next year given what has been revealed this past week?
