Raymond Felton

Look guys, I understand that most of us don't actually hate Felton, and we're just upset that the Knicks (Dolan) are looking at him as our Starting PG in lieu of Jeremy Lin. I don't like that idea either. I want Jeremy back, dammit!

That said, I'm an optimist, and a guy who is trying to prepare for life w/o Jeremy, and w/ our old Triple Felt Goose.

So, a few things, after the ....

Alright, I've heard a lot thrown onto Felton while people have been pretty upset about this whole situation, but I know not all of it is really clear-headed criticism.

Felton is old!: Well, he's 28. That's 4 years older than Lin, yes, but it's not really "old", is it?

Felton is fat!: Alright, I don't think I have anything here except I remember we thought this when we first got him in 2010, then kind of realized he's one of those guys with a "fat face" or "chubby complexion". He did stop caring quite so much when he was traded away, but the good thing about that, is it was because he LOVED playing here in New York. That counts for something in my book. There's no guarantee he gets himself in shape because he's coming back, but it's at least marginally encouraging.

Felton sucked last year!: This is where I really wanted to dig into a few things.

#1 - He put up 11.4p / 6.5a / 2.5r / 1.3s / 40.7% FG / 30.5% 3pt / 80.6% FT

I don't love it, but I like to look inside the #'s from time to time. Here's what I see with Raymond:

I hope that shows up as well for you guys as it is for me now.

#2 - For those that don't know, Portland underwent a coaching change on March 15th. I can't find a way to show his stats after that exact date, but you can see his March and April stats look a LOT better than his stats before then.

FG% shot up. 3pt% really shot up. FT% even shot up. Points, rebounds, assists, ALL up.

#3 - In April: 14p / 4r / 7.7a / 1.3s / 46% FG / 42% 3pt / 92% FT Looks damn good to me, SSS be damned.

I'm sure other posts similar to this may come up, I just wanted to put some information out there and give a little hope!

Also, Kurt Thomas put up 3p / 3.5r / half a steal, half a block, on 46.5% shooting in 15 mpg last year. I'd say that's kinda Jeffries ish, except he won't be taking any ill-advised 3's, and actually his offensive game is a bit better than Jared's. He's old (turns 40 before the season begins), but he's got something left in the tank.

He was called on to start 3 times last year, and while playing about 23 mpg he put up about 7 points and 8 rebounds while shooting 62.5%.

Take it or leave it, and I know this whole Lin situation sucks a whole lot right now, but maybe this makes some people feel just a liiiiittle bit better?

Good luck getting through this guys, I know I'll need it, I'm sure you will too.
