Before I give you guys my insight I would like to get this off my chest and it's only proper to do this on my first ever fanpost....................I have been a Knick fan my whole life and just wanted to say a BIG F*CK YOU to the following people: Reggie Miller, the Entire State of Indiana, Alonzo Mourning, Tim Hardaway, Michael Jordan and the 90's Bulls, Hakeem Olojuwan, Isaiah Thomas,Pat Riley, PJ Brown, Paul Pierce and everyone who breaths the air in Boston, and last but not least Lebron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh! If there is anyone else that you guys wanted to include in this list please feel free to let me know in your comments!.....However I want to give a huge thank you and show my appreciation to these guys: Patrick Ewing (hands down my favorite player of all time), John Starks, Allan Houston, Larry Johnson, Charles Oakley, Latrell Sprewell, Chris Childs, Jeff Van Gundy, Mark Jackson, and the all time greats in Clyde Fraizer, Bernard King and Earl Monroe!
Now that we know that Lin won't be back and GG has made most of the moves we could make during the offseason, I want to analyze what we are left with. At first glance our roster looks pretty old and on the decline. We lost most of our youth on our team (Lin, Fields, Jorts, Jerome Jordan and Toney D)and replace them with old vets in Kurt Thomas, Jason Kidd and Marcus Camby. Alot of us were up in arms with these moves since they also included money and draft picks to get these guys. However we also added Felton, resigned JR Smith, resigned Novak and added a couple of wild cards in Pablo Prigioni, James White and Chris Copeland. Once the dust has settled I came to this conclusion that GG and Dolan have built a team to be in the win now mode. This might be hard to see with the naked eye but here are my points:
-Camby, Thomas and Kidd were added to provide necessary experience (espcially playoff experience) to allow us to be effective. Sure it sucks to miss out on the young guys but these guys are battle tested, they now what it takes and they don't need to figure anything out. These are grown men who will give you the necessary things to win games (Rebound, Ball Movement and Defense). You know what you are getting with these guys and Woodson shouold feel very confident about this.
-Brining Felton back was GG's way of trying to get more out of Stat. Felton built chemistry pretty quickly with Amare during his first tenure with the Knicks. Their Pick and Roll game was unstopple and Amare was putting up MVP like numbers. If adding Felton is going to bring the old and true Stat back than I really don't care about losing Lin becuase the posibility of having the old Amare is 100 times better than getting what we got from Lin last season. Amare was straight up beast mode when he was rolling with Felton.
-Novak and JR had a wierdly awesome chemistry last season. The NBA's version of the odd couple. JR was a willing passer with Novak on the floor (hard to beleive) and if both of these guys get hot it opens the game up for pick and rolls (Felton/Kidd and Amare/Chandler) or less pressure in isolation play with Melo.
At the end of the day this team has been put together to compliment our stars in Amare, Melo and Chandler. We have proven guys (Camby, Thomas and Kidd) to put in the game when these guys need to come out. We added players who already have chemistry with these stars (Felton and Amare / Kidd and Chandler)and we added shooters to open up the floor for Melo. I think we did the best we could with the limited cap space we had and if we get anything from the wild card players than that is a plus. The success of this franchise falls squarely on the shoulders of Melo and Amare and i feel alot more confident in that then putting the pressure on a kid who came out of nowhere (still got tons of love for Jeremy Lin though).
This team is now put up or shut up.
