With our roster just about set, I started thinking about rotations and minutes for the upcoming season. I'll break it down in three segments. Backcourt minutes before Shump comes back, after Shump comes back an front court minutes. This is more an exercise to spark discussion and get your opinions than anything else. For backcourt minutes I'm going to cheat a little bit because I think Brewer and eventually Shump will see spot minutes at the three. With that in mind here are my thoughts: I am going to start with106 backcourt minutes and 134 front court minutes. Felton I think will get 28 minutes, Kidd about 20(with 12 at the point), I think Prigioni will be used sparingly but I'll put him down for 8 minutes. Brewer I think will start and play about 20 minutes . That leaves 30 minutes for Smith who I think Woodson is quite fond of playing.
When Shump returns, assuming he is 100 percent I see him taking10 minutes away from Smith, most if not all of Prigioni's minutes and an additional 4minutes away from the front court. That puts him at 22 minutes, Smith, Brewer and Kidd at 20 a piece and Felton stays at 28 minutes.
In the front court before Shump returns we have 134 minute remaining. I would give Melo 34 minutes, Amare and Chandler 30 minutes each, 20 minutes for Camby, 12 for Novak and 8 for Kurt Thomas. After Shump returns we have 130 minutes left and for simplicity I will take them from Thomas. What do you think?
