Woodson: Amar'e Stoudemire and Kenyon Martin will alternate back-to-back games

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

A sorta big man pitching rotation!

The Knicks are taking special care of two men whose legs have been known to stop working now and then. Amar'e Stoudemire and Kenyon Martin will have their minutes monitored all season long. Woodson has hinted at a back-to-back strategy before, and he confirmed it at practice Saturday:

I imagine Martin and Stoudemire will both be available for games after days off, but that seems like a reasonable plan for back-to-backs. I like it. Those two can be alternated to fit certain opponents/gameplans, too. We could have regular holidays like "Defense Tuesday" or something. Ya know, I wish Woodson had thought of resting guys like this last year. The Knicks could've had a pitching rotation of old, gimpy players.

Both Amar'e and Kenyon looked pretty comfortable in Friday's preseason finale, so I think it's fair to expect they'll do fine in practice this week. Then, of course, the regular season starts with a back-to-back against the Bucks and Bulls. Who plays Wednesday and who plays Thursday?

I'll have a fishy post up, probably in the morning, with more pre-season-opener stuff and links from around the world wide web. Hope you're having a pleasant Saturday.

Update: This plan may be in place even for non-back-to-back games:
