I was talking with a friend and fellow Knicks fan about how the Knicks are routinely dismissed for their actions while other teams are given untold amounts of "benefit of the doubt". I don't know about you fine ladies and gentlemen here but this is completely infuriating for me.
I came up with a few examples of narratives that would be used if the Knicks did certain things.
- Knicks attract Phil Jackson: "The Knicks once again sign a big name without looking into their knees situation. Phil Jackson can't even sit in a regular chair how is he going to motivate the players!" "This is just a cash grab/favor to the franchise that drafted him." "Phil's great but has the game passed him by?"
- Knicks sign (Jason Kidd) as coach: "What are the Knicks thinking signing a head coach with no experience?!" "Have you heard the latest Dolan debacle?" "The Knicks have officially thrown away their season with this coaching hire." "Melo has officially made his power move by demanding (recent retiree player) to be the coach of this team."
- Knicks sign Lebron James: "How much can Lebron have left after all of those games?" "Can you really think the Knicks are the favorite just because they have Lebron?" "Will Lebron Be Swallowed Up by the Big Apple?" "The Knicks have made another huge blunder by offering Lebron this money, he is going to be 35 years old at the end of the deal!"
- Knicks win 60 games go to ECF, the next season is about to begin: "The Knicks will wilt under the pressure of last seasons success." "The window of the Knicks has closed even if they held it open a bit longer than expected." "The Raptors are going to take the Atlantic Division this year says every analyst at ESPN." "The Knicks will miss the playoffs, write it down!"
It doesn't really matter I love this team and love this game, lets just get ready for opening night, GO KNICKS! #KNICKSTAPE
